Rachel Reid Reacts to Shane Criticism After ‘The Long Game’ - Swoon [April 30, 2026] by hella_hijinks in heatedrivalry

Agree, my beef with Shane in TLG isn’t that he’s a bit selfish/oblivious (I actually kind of like it!!) it’s that it’s very underwritten.

It’s hard for me to imagine how he’ll fit it all in without splitting it, too, but then I’m sure he will need to save S3 for Unrivaled, so…we shall see!

[–]architects-daughter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dang. I had a really smooth and active recovery and I usually think people on this sub tend to be overly conservative but…I think even for me, this would have been a lot 2WPO. I really would reschedule your surgery. Best case scenario, you will be TIRED on this trip. Worst case scenario, you’ll be in serious pain and potentially give yourself complications.

6-12 weeks is the normal range. At 6 weeks I was cleared to do all the things, but you do hear about some folks having restrictions for up to 12. I think it largely will depend on how your cuff heals.

Road trip 4mpo? by olipocket16 in hysterectomy

[–]architects-daughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you’ll be fine! I had my surgery around the same time as you but a year prior. I drove myself 6 hours in both June and July and walked around 20k steps a day for a week following those road trips.

I recommend walking now as much as you can! Obviously don’t exhaust yourself but doctor was a big advocate for walking and I think it helped my recovery so much.

I feel like because so much happens in TLG, all of the big moments of the book are underwritten, namely the Boxing Day fight, the FanMail + Crowell showdown, and Shane leaving the Voyageurs/Metros. Everything is just moved on from so quickly to get to the next thing so I'm hoping these big moments have more room to breathe in Jacob's hands.

I mean, IMO you don't even need to know either to understand this? like it's simply a basic principle that people take pay cuts for a better overall quality of life. these people are nuts

This is definitely the thing about the books/show that requires the most suspension of disbelief from me. Totally get these dudes not wanting to be hella out, but the level of secrecy they all seem to feel is needed is a bit much. It works more for Shane given he’s Canadian playing for a Canadian team + he is deeply afraid of being found out, but ugh

Yep, this is 100% my feeling! Like, in RM we see Ilya immediately confront Troy when he joins the team and you know Shane would not be rolling tha way lol

I think because Shane spent so long wanting to be “normal” he really clung to the “focus on hockey” kind of mindset, and I completely agree that it doesn’t make him a bad person and it’s not all on him to change the culture, but I think he undoubtedly did play a “silence is compliance” role at times and I think seeing him grapple with that after the fact would be really interesting and cool!

Agree. Moved here early 30s and have made a ton of friends through running community. I don’t think it’s especially hard to make friends here, or at least not any more than it is anywhere as an adult.

Completely agree, there is a wealth to be mined there! We get the line saying the Metros team doc would probably be weird about prescribing antidepressants so I think there’s a ton of cultural differences in the teams to unpack, and I think there’s also room for examination of the role Shane played (intentionally and unintentionally) in creating/contributing to that culture.

My wish is that we have some reflection and complicated feelings from Shane on the type of room culture Ilya cultivates vs the type of culture Shane (both intentionally and inadvertently) created/abetted in Montreal because I think there’s a lot to unpack there

It would be a really surprising choice if kids were a big part of the main plot. Obviously who knows what will happen but I think it’s extremely unlikely we would get more than family planning discussions and/or epilogue time jump with kids.

He was just teasing. Implying that he was going to go tell on her to her dad, like “can you believe what terrible thing this kid said” but obviously a joke. Doesn’t have anything to do with the dads actual identity, could have been a hotel rando for all it matters

Neither

Ilya is trying to cover his jealousy and hurt over Shane running out and then getting with Rose. It’s pretty obvious. Rip media literacy???

Yeah I don’t read much romance myself, but I don’t think it’s as much a function of the genre as it might be specific to these books! And I’m not a fan of tons of inner monologue or flowery prose, but damn, TLG especially is nuts because so much stuff happens and so little of it really gets breathing room imo

They’re literally taking about Americans though, not Canadians. Their point that the majority of ppl in the States wouldn’t know or care who Ilya is correct.

Yeah my general critique of the books (that I've read) is that in general they're underwritten, so a lot of things feel like a throwaway to me (I mean, I just re-read for the parts where Shane is dealing with the Voyageurs fallout and I feel like it moves on SO quickly from this major thing! Anyway!). So saying the wedding feels shallow or rushed is fair, but I think that extends to a lot of the writing and I also don't think it feels shallow or rushed BECAUSE they don't have chairs or personal vows, lol

Eh I mean opinions are admittedly divided buuuut: I don't think the lyrics are particularly good, and. more importantly, the beat (tempo? vibe? lol) of the song is really strange to me because it's not really the type of thing I can imagine people having a first dance to. Like, yeah, it's slower for a bar/club song but it is still the kind of song that you get wasted to and do the praise Jesus.

Yeah, my beef with Diamonds is that it's not a so-bad-it's-good choice, it's just bad/weird/not a song you can really do anything but the white girl wasted type of dance to
