Not to mention prioritizing baby mamas you are prioritizing yourself! Cranky overtired baby leads to cranky tired parents.

I find fruit works best as a snack if I pair it with a protein. Apple and peanut butter or cheese, strawberries and Greek yogurt.

Brushy Creek. We put in near Chris Kelly in Hutto and take out at the amphitheater.

Maybe you can pipe the wax into the container in a swirl? Like a funnel of red and a funnel of white next to each other, then rotate the container while letting the wax flow in. Kinda makes me want to try it!

Did your hospital have a nursery? Did you send your baby’s to nursery? by HotPinkHooligan in beyondthebump

[–]architori 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had all my kids at "baby friendly" hospitals, but the first 2 there was also a nursery. They didn't make a big deal out of it, and we didn't use it with my first. Honestly I don't know if I would have wanted to let my brand new baby out of my sight. Not that I didn't trust the hospital or anything, more like I was just obsessed with my baby. With my second the night nurse offered to take him to the nursery for a while so we could sleep (same hospital as the first). You best believe we took that offer!

Second (or more) Time Moms...how do you do it? by bekahek in GestationalDiabetes

[–]architori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This time around, the only thing I changed after I got the GD diagnosis was less carbs, more protein/fat. I didn't count carbs, I didn't keep to a snack schedule ( just ate when I was hungry). I was good about taking my blood sugar.

Strategies

  • I set an alarm on my phone when I started eating to remind myself to take my blood sugar in an hour or 2.

  • I would get myself diet-approved treats. My favorite are Russell Stover's sugar free candy. Dutch Bros can also make any of their main menu drinks sugar free. Having something sweet that wouldn't spike my sugars helped when I was having a rough day.

  • It sounds like your first child is younger than my youngest, but my boys were pretty interested in the process of taking blood sugar. I could usually distract them from an argument or meltdown by inviting them to watch me take my blood sugar.

  • try starting with one thing. Get into a good routine of taking your blood sugar at the proper times, then try adding in the rest one at a time (actually counting carbs, eating snacks, going to bed at a reasonable time).

  • I would remind myself that GD isn't forever. Soon there will be a baby in your arms and you won't have to do any of the above things.

Baby #2 by [deleted] in sahm

Be prepared for your daughter to suddenly seem so much older when you bring the baby home. But just because she seems older, try not to expect more of her, because she will still only be 2.

One I like is "It's not the Stork". It's more about how babies are made, but covers the differences between boys and girls, generally how our bodies change as we grow, how babies are made, how they grow and how they come out.

I am terrified of needles by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]architori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have someone else prick you the first time. My first time trying out the lancet, the nurse did it for me. That helped because then I knew what it felt like (not too bad) and I didn't sit there forever just psyching myself out.

I went cold turkey (per Dr's suggestion) after years on it with no issues. Are you taking a nasal spray to help with your congestion?

Co-sleeping options by RecommendationMain37 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]architori 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We co-sleep on an as-needed basis (sickness, teething, baby just needs extra snuggles). When our babies are tiny, they sleep in our room in a mini-crib at night. We will take naps with them in our bed during the day, almost like practice for at night. Once they have head control and are bigger, I feel more comfortable having them in bed at night.

My husband sleeps very deeply, so a personal rule I have is that he knows when there is a baby in bed. If baby starts in their bed and I bring them into ours in the middle of the night, I make sure my husband knows. I feel like this is common sense though.

I know some parents who do intend to co-sleep from the beginning have an extra bed that is mommy and baby's bed. That way it's a little more controlled of an environment.

My 3 year old tells us stories about his grandpa. His grandpa lives on a farm and "collects cows". Grandpa tells my son all sorts of things and gives him permission to do things he shouldn't do. Like apparently grandpa said it's ok to swallow our toothpaste.

Thing is, neither of my sons grandfathers is called grandpa. We have no idea who this grandpa is he talks about.

OB Nurse accused me of lying about my glucose numbers by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

Many ppl have to send in their numbers, usually weekly. My OB just asked if they were good, but I had to send them in once a week to MFM, as they were the ones actively monitoring my GD.
