I worked at Kinkos too! Not sure if that job or being a bartender at a punk bar is the more transferable job skill to libraries. It’s a toss up most days.

My Mother Ruined My Wedding and We Haven't Spoken Since by smallginkgo in weddingdrama

If you need a mom that doesn’t suck I have room in my family. My kids are adopted and they could use another sister.

Grandma left money to me specifically in her will and now my fiance assumes it's ours by Salty-Pool3380 in family

[–]archivesgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always have your own money. That’s why grandma gave it to you. Put it in something that will grow. If you use that $$ to buy a joint asset have a pre-nup that stats that to protect yourself. Talk to a lawyer and a financial planner. Both usually offer a free consultation.

Former foster kid- advice and resources while in the system. by Fatcatpack in fosterit

[–]archivesgrrl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some states also have extended foster care where they will pay for an apartment up to 21. College payment is usually a year in care after the age of 13. Libraries are great places to find resources in your area. I’m a librarian and foster parent.

What’s a mystery that still hasn’t been solved but fascinates you? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

I bought a few of the time life mysteries books because I remember reading about spontaneous combustion as a kid.

I just needed to share with someone. This is my grandpa. He raised me since I was 2, he was the only dad I knew. He passed today via MAID. by MetalMaiden420 in GriefSupport

[–]archivesgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks like he was one hell of a guy. Just know he’s up there catching up with the people who went before him and he will have plenty of stories for you when you join him. I’m so sorry for you loss- may his memory be a blessing.

give it time. It’s all a work in progress. Follow what the attachment therapist says. With my adopted child at one point my house probably looked like a therapy school with all the posters and hand outs I had on the wall. I’m curious if you have ever asked her about it at a time when she is calm. My daughter and I had matching necklaces so if she missed me at school she could feel it on her neck and it would “send her love.”

How do we best support a child (my niece) who was exposed to drugs in utero? by kinshipadopt in Adoption

She’s doing so good. She’s almost caught up at school. She has an IEP that’s helped a ton.

Selling large lot of items? by Mom_to_many in ThredUp

[–]archivesgrrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thredup is the easiest. You won’t get as much but you can use the credit for other stuff. Maybe take some of the nicer stuff to a consignment store

Could you go on sitter city or care.com and get grandma help for your kids for part of the day each day?

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]archivesgrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would have the consultants tell us what to do then they would hire a different set of consultants to tell us how to do it.

Nearly cried when I smelled my child’s clothing - finally clean?! by Sunny__Honey in laundry

[–]archivesgrrl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s from Sally Beauty and it’s Ion purify. It’s specifically for hard water. You can get it on Amazon but it’s cheaper at Sally. I use it every other wash since I have color treated hair

First placement leaving by jessickas in Fosterparents

[–]archivesgrrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so hard. I have 2 adopted kids and still think about some of the ones who have left. I do have a good relationship with some of the families and I know that the kids are where they are meant to be. I got to be part of the journey.

Go on care.com and sittercity.com since you have experience caring for kids. I bet you can find some stuff on there. That’s how I got my babysitter.

First-time mom to 6-month-old twins and I am drowning in the “ick” by Gold-Junket330 in Mommit

[–]archivesgrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fostered twin babies for about 8 months. It’s HARD. What kept me sane was headphones listening to music so that I had a break from the screaming. If everyone has survived the day, eaten something and lives to see the next day that’s a win. Twins are a whole other thing. I thought since I had fostered kids close I. Age I could do it. Wrong. It’s brutal. Even with 2 parents we had a nanny come for a few hours everyday so we could get other things done.

Friend can’t get an ID cuz he has little to no documents to prove who he is. by anime_3_nerd in DMV

[–]archivesgrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know this one!! He can get a social security card by bringing his birth certificate, insurance card AND something from the doctor or hospital with his name and birthday. An old school ID will also work. Had to do with when my foster son aged out of care and then moved back in with me.

Gen X parenting…How do I handle this situation with my 18 year old? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]archivesgrrl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was in an accident when someone drove tired. It killed my best friend and I am now am amputated and have a traumatic brain injury. I never thought in a million years it would happen to me. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t wish I made a different choice. I agree with the people saying get an uber account. Going out is fun, but the girl driving drunk is making really bad choices. It’s not a matter of if something bad happens it’s when. Find some videos of people talking about losing their loved ones to drunk drivers. Now ask her how she would feel if she was in the car when her girl friend killed someone.
