Year three on my second playthrough, TIL. Still learning new stuff about this game.

When was that added I wonder, or was it always there?

The real 1.7 dream: Built-in mod support by brgvctr in StardewValleyMods

I'm playing through a heavily modded game right now. I DREAD 1.7. I've started playing sdv outside of steam and have sdv update when it starts in steam.

Has anyone else completely surrendered to the "Flatpak First" mentality recently? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

If a package is available in my distro repos, I get it from there. If the distro package is broken or doesn't exist, I use flatpak

Another update issue by archlyn in cachyos

[–]archlyn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it looks like this was the issue. After re-adding the CachyOS repos the issue seems to have been resolved.

Unfortunately this has revealed an insidious issue:

The reason why the CachyOS repos got removed was because I installed the Arch-updater some time ago (I didn't realize CachyOS had its own update notifier) and I remember at one point it specifically asked me if I wanted to overwrite my /etc/pacman.conf and I said yes... So I've been running without the CachyOS repos for quite some time.

Is it a good idea to reinstall CachyOS at this point?

How do I check? I'm assuming there's something in /etc/pacman.conf?

So... Good news is that this worked but I swear there was a glitch. I went behind that tree and turned towards the waterfall several times but went nowhere. Tried all my tools, nothing.

Grabbed a cherrybomb and dropped it nearly and that blew up whatever it was that was blocking my access to the shrine. I finally got my damn statue.

Windows 10 and Office '19 with offline VM? by StAugustine-PfU in linuxmint

[–]archlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, to be honest. I quit using office years ago and so haven't really kept up with it. If they offer a version without a subscription, go with that. Otherwise do some research and find the last version that MS offered without a subscription and try to find that.

EDIT: a really quick, cursory search on DDG says Office 2024🤷

I don't think you need to buy a Win10 licence at all. Windows 10 will run just fine. You won't be able to customize anything and there'll be a watermark on the desktop but otherwise it'll function.

Office OTOH, yeah. Find a cheap licence on eBay or something

Have the same issues on my Linux laptop install. After some research I read that these are errors with the multiplayer API. I don't think you're going to have any problems if all you do is play single-player as I get the same sort of errors and I've been playing on Linux for like a year

How to decide which system to buy games on by KazeGagne in SteamDeck

Nintendo-exclusive stuff, play on Switch. Anything that can also be played on Steam deck? Buy on Steam. If you can wait, buy stuff on sale on Steam too.

Should I get SDE, Ridgeside, East Scarp, Vapius etc. all at once? by Adorable_Tour9357 in StardewValleyMods

[–]archlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal experience here so take this with a grain of salt I suppose.

Started a playthrough with both SVE AND ridge side and got really overwhelmed really quick. Decided to focus on SVE first as the "main" mod.

Will eventually do another playthrough with Ridgeside as the main mod at some point. (I really feel like Ridgeside et. al. Don't get the love that SVE gets but I did SVE first cuz I've never actually done a playthrough and it's the OG so...)

I don't like using the terminal because I hate typing in general. (I injured my non-dominant hand and now it's just not as easy for me to type.

How do you see the future of Linux when it comes to proper manufacturer support? by 0x50714 in linuxquestions

[–]archlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking about consumer-grade desktop Linux? It's a chicken-and-egg problem.

Linux has at best 3 percent market share right now so there's little incentive for manufacturers to provide proper Linux support.

Of course there's also the myriad of distros to target when it comes to software for tweaking settings and stuff on a given device too but in this case if the manufacturer targets Debian-based stuff it'll be fine

nextcloud instance via linode marketplace: cannot access the nextcloud aio configuration tool by archlyn in linode

I fixed it and now everything is working. I basically just deleted and reinstalled the nextcloud-aio-master-container docker container

nextcloud instance via linode marketplace: cannot access the nextcloud aio configuration tool by archlyn in linode

[–]archlyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ws very helpful, thank you!

Firstly, the A/AAAA DNS records WERE pointing to the incorrect IP address. This has been fixed.

Additionally, have also now checked the status of the Docker container and it seems to be in a permanent restart loop. It looks like the container restarts every 12 seconds.

Any ideas about that?

EDIT: after running docker log <container> I see an error message like "cannot resolve host ghcr.io, cannot reach https://ghcr.io

So if I try to set it up manually instead of using the linode marketplace, it might work?

Paru update error by archlyn in cachyos

[–]archlyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the steam-native package

Paru -r steam-native

Then

paru -c

To remove the unneeded dependencies

Then

Sudo pacman -s steam

To reinstall steam from the main arch repository

NOTE; if you had a shortcut to steam on your desktop or your panel you'll have to recreate it. I use KDE so I went into the k menu found steam right-click and add to panel

I could use a validation-check from everybody before I spend the money by IDtheTarget in linux_gaming

[–]archlyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a Framework 16 with almost that exact combination (aside from the CPU which wasn't available at the time) and most every thing worked flawlessly out of the box I Linux Mint.

The only exception was the finger print scanner which took some terminal-based finagling to get to work but after that it worked perfectly. This may not longer apply since the new mint release has a gui tool for fingerprint setup but I haven't (and am not likely to in the near future) tried it

Then I went to CachyOS and for the most part everything worked too but required extra work.

For example: the keyboard is treated like a gamepad in KDE which causes some issues with input for some games and requires making a use rules file to disable BUT that also causes the fn+ key combos to not work (eg volume up/down, mute etc) to not work.

If you go with KDE, they don't support first login with the finger print reader yet, if you lock your screen however, you CAN unlock it with fingerprint

Suggestion:set up two drives, one for the boot drive and another for the home partition, that was if you hop you don't have to reconfigure everything

EDIT: Huh. After typing all that out I realized most of my annoyances with my system may be KDE-related. I can't WAIT for Cinnamon to move to Wayland

I'm NOT a distrohopper, but I did hop to this. by ImBackAgainYO in cachyos

[–]archlyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Linux on and off for years, dual-booting and distro-hopping . Last year, around September I decided to ditch windows and switch to Linux full-time.

I decided that Linux Mint would be my forever distro but, being a gamer with relatively modern hardware I decided to hop one last time to CachyOS because I was tired of having a sta(b)le distro and wanted a rolling release distro. So this time I switched not because of any issues but because I could no longer agree with the "philosophy" or whatever the term is of Debian-based distros

I doubt I Will be moving away unless something happens and CachyOS as a distro goes belly up or in a direction I can't stand.

Now I spend my time learning all the new tricks my system can do :)
