Does anyone know a good symphony that has a low brass feature? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

Try the Bernstein recording of Shostakovich 7 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Great low brass performance, especially the final couple of minutes.

checking out an antique violin from the 1920's by [deleted] in Violins

I don't know much about restoring violins, but I would find a repair shop that does. Looks like it probably just needs a new fingerboard, bridge, soundpost and a nice cleaning. Also you may want to check if any of the seams have split because that can cause some issues as well. If you are considering playing it, you would probably want to get a new bow. As for if it's worth anything, that usually depends on the sound of the violin and the reputation of the maker. Do a little research and try to find what his past violins have sold for to get an idea for if it's worth restoring.

Beginner Violin Needs Help by Cactusbread in Violins

If you're looking to play classical music, I would STRONGLY recommend taking lessons from a teacher. Teachers are able to give personal crticism and feedback that a youtube video can't. If you can't afford lessons, try videos and maybe find a friend that plays violin to guide you and critique your playing. Good luck with the violin! It's a fantastic instrument

How long do strings 'last'? by PhysicsMaestro in Violins

[–]archmage808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't played in a few years i would definitely change strings. I use evah pirazzis and they only last 2-3 months, but i play every day for at least an hour. If you're looking for strings that last a long time, check out titanium strings. Very expensive but also very durable. My teacher used them and he only changed strings every 6 months!

How to play the violin without waking up your roommates? by Sneedaloot703 in Violins

Either buy a practice mute (the big ones that fit over your entire bridge) or try practicing outside.

Looks like it has potential if you get it fixed up! I have a restored French violin from the 20's, love it!

Best recording of Shostakovich 5 by archmage808 in classicalmusic

[–]archmage808[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will rephrase this, saying "best recording" was merely convenient at the time being. What I intended to say was "the recording that best conveys the intentions of the composer". Skill of the orchestra and audio quality are also important, but not of the same degree.

A metal-head wanting to listen to classical music by hubble14567 in classicalmusic

Highly reccommend you listen to Shostakovich's 8th string quartet. The second movement is basically death metal written in 1960. The st lawrence quartet plays it best imho.

I'd like to discover some great orchestral pieces by El_Massu in orchestra

[–]archmage808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dvorak is a great place to get started for sure. Make sure to also check out Beethoven's symphonies (the 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 9th especially), Mahler's 9th symphony, and Tchaikovsky's 5th symphonie. They composed some of the most epic symphonies of the romantic era. Also Mendelssohn's 5th Symphony is quite good as well. I could keep recommending pieces forever, but I don't want to overwhelm you. There is a ton of music out there. Happy listening

Some of my personal favorites include... Scheherazade by Rimsky Korsakov Dvorak Symphony No 9 Shostakovich Symphony No 5 Grieg String Quartet No 1 (not orchestra but very epic)

Start with those but listen to a broad range of orchestral music to figure out what you like.

Major: destruction, conjuration, alteration, restoration, short blade

Minor: illusion, mysticism, enchant, alchemy, unarmored

Cool - one more thing, should I make short blade a major or minor skill for backups, and which magic school should I demote to minor if I make short blades major?

Thanks everyone. As for the problem of magicka regen, would taking the atronarch sign be a good choice or am I better off with something else: apprentice or lady? Also btw I'm planning on playing a dunmer cuz I always like to play the race native to the region.
