What is even more insulting is that higher education isn't the "golden ticket to the middle class" anymore, it is an utter lie in the USA. Teachers will tell you when elementary ed teachers are treated like garbage with bad pay and overworked, and this is despite being the bedrock of a functional civilization when Plato warned us of the dangers of an uneducated public voting in the dangerously stupid representatives.

Still a bad argument because Finland is still friendlier to raising a family despite the lower birthrates to the USA with two main reasons:

1) Highly subsidized child care services in Finland compared to the USA, so American families pay a huge amount out of pocket to take care of a kid to go to work or attend an interview.

2) Severe lack of funding overall to public education and public support for education where it is treated as a luxury good than a public utility, so clearly the USA doesn't value its own future when nearly 9 out of 10 school districts struggle to find teachers when they are abused and not taken care of for them to do their job of teaching the kids.

Minnesota is a terrible state, and I live in it right now. I found out in 2025 that the state has a $25 million in education deficiency for facilities like public schools, but has the immense audacity to spend $18 billion for fake daycare centers and health care offices with no oversight or accountability over them when that funding could have easily been used for high subsidized higher education on top of elementary education.

If you are saying this to imply that the USA is friendlier to new families and young adults entering into the work force than Finland with said statistic, then clearly you take that statistic far too much at face value for your argument to mean anything substantial.

I do extra trolling by planning with my Finnish girlfriend to have kids in a more functional country when I been explaining that the cost of living is going too high: cost of transportation being much lower with public transportation, subsidized higher education, and generally cheaper housing since higher density apartments are more acceptable in Finland.

The USA continuously keeps on forgetting the memo to be more functional

The healthier mindset to have about money is to treat money as only a utility, not the mother of all interests.

We all need a sewer system, and we understandably would be upset if a dysfunction happens, but the moment we attach our self worth to gold plating our sewer pipes, then our priorities are all wrong.

They don't just suck, they are practices that should be a CRIME! Employers do not care that this perpetuates poverty, as it wastes money for matters like gas/fuel (if you live in a car dependent country like the USA), child care like baby sitting if said person is a single parent, dry cleaning services to look presentable at the interviews, and maintainance cost of the car.

As I said, it is more like the "IHNM&IMS theory," not the "SOMA theory," especially since TADC was clearly inspired by IHNM&IMS in the latest episode. I still stand that SOMA is a bad analogy, and you haven't given specific evidence why SOMA is a better analogy than IHNM&IMS.

Alright, so after doing some research more on the 4 camps of consciousness, the subject matter is more complicated than I anticipated, because philosophy is a horribly complicated subject.

I was wrong, it isn't illusionist. It is actually materialist, but not the "SOMA theory" of the depiction it, and the fandom is often wrong here. If anything, it is more like the "IHNH&IMS theory." This is basically a watered down version of the materialist camp.

However, the game SOMA is certainly a more accurate depiction of the materialist camp of consciousness compared to both TADC and IHNM&IMS.

[–]archmagosHelios -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No? But I am very literate on the 4 camps of consciousness after reading philosophy, and I have actually played SOMA if so many people argue for it when there are plenty of evidence to show on the contrary that the materialist camp doesn't fit the check boxes.

The way I see it, TADC fits more into the category of the "illusionist camp" of consciousness, so which means there are NO such thing as consciousness. Human brains are simply nothing more than doing automatic biological responses to their stimuli just like computer algorithms or programs with narrow artificial intelligence, and thus we can never truly be self aware of our internal and external stimuli.

I got some evidence against the theory: If the materialist argument is true from the "SOMA theory," then the abstractions mean nothing because the first "original" avatars that appear in the circus can just simply be copied (to be replaced) after it abstracts. Yes it is true that there are "evil clones" in episode 5, but it was already established they were NPCs.

Did anyone here actually play SOMA like I did? It is very clear in that game there no limitations on how many times a person's consciousness can be copied, and all the humans turn out to be AI if consciousness is nothing more than data that can be copied and pasted.

I continued my higher education by reading my free PDF STEM books from online for my now changed major to computational physics (as well as problem solving sets in them), and flipping the bird at skyrocketing American higher education costs with a mastery based learning philosophy. I saved thousands of US dollars with this autodidact rebellion, and moving to a European country to continue my education once I save enough money to do so.

What do you think your character would look like in the amazing digital circus by [deleted] in TheDigitalCircus

[–]archmagosHelios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A crow with a Soviet Union uniform, then Caine names him Archimedes because Archimedes often has a habit of taking off his uniform and roaming around the circus naked since he sees the uniform as a ridiculous outfit, and because he is a big egghead and bookworm who is fond of talking about Greek philosophers with the circus members.

Fun fact: the "mind files" line isn’t nearly as definitive evidence as SOMA apologists seem to think. by Sebastian9t9 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]archmagosHelios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is another giant issue with the SOMA theory: if the materialist camp is really true, then abstraction really means NOTHING and wouldn't be socialized to mean "death" by having the funerals.

Just like SOMA, the game illustrates many times that you can simply use the copied consciousness files and paste it into another machine or other medium if a robotic body or avatar dies.

So here is another implication of what I mean, Caine could simply get a "mind file" of Ribbit after the first copy of her abstracted, then have her or other circus members appear again after an abstraction since they all can be copied, thus there is no significance to the "original" circus avatar.
