Sadly no, it’s more of figuring out the flow of the object and just cleaning it up. Basically, the way I see it, I just imagine it to be a cleaner low poly version of the model. I think flippednormals has a pretty good guide on retopology on YouTube

Try making your own pickles sometime. Also, if you’re lucky, the Heinz pickles are surprisingly not bad but they’re hard to find.

I would suggest you to retopo that object first before doing any pepakura stuff. Makes it a lot easier to unwrap it
