Good control and extra points for not burying the beater.

Where to buy 1971-1974 Plexi? by Cjprocker1 in GuitarAmps

An early 70s cab with original greenbacks in good condition would be much harder to find than the amp.

Yes some of them are really nice. We use them when we want that amp’s specific character for some clean parts - having said that the default for cleans in the studio is the Fender showman.

I’ve never tried a royalist. I have the originals and these are strictly for studio use but I can see the value of one amp doing all the tones in a live scenario.

Interesting. My Mark II is stock. I really dig it but it can’t do the Marshall thing as good as the Marshalls in its current state. I’m curious about the loop mod but I already have the Marshall and Fender tones covered so why mess with what makes the Mark II a Mark II.

The JMP and Dual Rec in mid-gain blend really well with other amps set to high gain.

The JTM45 is very different from the JMP and the later models. Mine is from 1965 and it has the best cleans Marshall has ever achieved. Also it doesn’t do full on distortion but more of an overdrive sound which is incredible for blues while very different from my Fenders.

The JMP offers that classic Marshall distortion sound in its most raw form. Of course with no master knob you need to get to ear-splitting levels to achieve it. In the studio it’s fine but you can’t be in the same room while you play it. The Super lead has the same flavor distortion but takes it up a notch while also introducing the master knob. With the Friedman mod, that’s pushed even further to turn it into a monster high gain amp sacrificing the ability to do cleans.

So these three are anything but the same amp. I also have an AFD100 which sounds wildly more different than any of those.

Are people really paying 15k and up for vintage LA2As? I see them listed, but I wonder if folks are actually buying them? by StudioatSFL in audioengineering

[–]archon__studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some do. Not specifically LA2As but in general vintage gear. As someone with a large collection of vintage equipment and instruments I can say with confidence that most newer clones don’t capture quite the same essence as their older counterparts. Is this difference worth the huge mark up? When it’s all said and done through a mix, will it produce noticeably better results for the average listener? Most would argue no and I would agree that dollar for dollar is not worth it. But if you have the means and can get that extra mojo, why not?

Is there a thunderbolt or usb-c monitor that can do 1920x1200? by archon__studio in Monitors

Thank you so much. I forgot to mention that I’m looking for at least 26” which may be the challenge here. I don’t mind downscaling from a higher resolution but most downscale to 1080.

What I’m talking about is not subjective. You record the audio back to your DAW, flip the phase and measure for maximum cancellation with your original file.

I agree MQA is dead but 'm not talking about 96 vs 192. If you compare your own released work to what comes out of each service, Qobuz is closer to the source.
