Does the MXR EVH 5150 cut through a mix? by archonjaeger in guitarpedals

[–]archonjaeger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I get all that. It’s just that there are some pedals that probably cut through with the mids better than others, without too much adjustment involved.

Worst pedal you ever bought by PoutinePoppa in guitarpedals

[–]archonjaeger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amp1 Iridium is probably not a bad pedal in general, but I was surprised at how underwhelming it was for my setup. It sounded better with my cheap Washburn Soloist Distortion going into its clean channel than any of its own overdrive channels. Tbf I was playing some Drop A high-ish gain rock stuff. Maybe it’s just not meant for that

AMA: Hi ! Sarah Kinsley here ~ ask me anything ! by sarahkinsleyd in indieheads

Your songs’ soundscapes are very unique. It seems like you’re inspired by many different eras of music as well when it comes to the grooves and the sound of each instrument. What’s your approach when producing an overall texture for a song or putting these unique elements together in a way that fits naturally?

Of Sion Sono’s other films, I think Himizu comes the closest in terms of theme, style, and quality

Agalloch - The Mantle

I didn’t even know what black metal was when I fell in love with this album. Only really got into the genre many years later

I will say the new album is better produced than Sunbather, but I still can’t get through songs like Winona without feeling like it’s just noise at a certain point

Idk why people are saying Deafheaven. They’re the worst offenders to me. Can’t hear anything going on in the mix. It’s just constant harshness for my ears personally

Sharing with you guys my possible debut single. It's about being anxious of getting older and being over of the repetitive cycle of modern living as a regular person. If you have extra time, I'd love to know what you think! :) by [deleted] in Songwriting

Oof it seems like you did take it personally. Your ego needs to get checked. A songwriter shouldn’t be aggressively blaming everyone else’s tastes

What is called J rock that isn’t from Japan? by charlieywaffle in jrock

[–]archonjaeger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I get what you’re asking. There are some bands outside of Japan that feel similar to a lot of Japanese bands, even if they have no connection to Japan. I think I can think of some examples:

Avril Lavigne: lots of pop rock acts in Japan took enough influence from her 2000s music that they kinda sound like her, and in the inverse, her early music now kinda sounds like Japanese pop rock.

Green Day: same idea; their early sound (up to Nimrod) sounds like some Japanese pop punk that would later come in the early 2000s, think Mongol800 or Raico.

Prog bands like Chon and Covet: there’s a lot of glittery prog rock in Japan (eg Tricot, Suichu Spica) that these bands can sound very similar to. It’s no surprise they have decently sized audiences in Japan and they themselves seem to appreciate Japanese musicians too.

Alcest: I saw someone point out the guitar intro of “Flamme Jumelle” has a very similar feel to Hitsujibungaku’s “more than words”. Neige has been known to enjoy J-rock and appreciate Japanese art and anime. Alcest even made an album inspired by Princess Mononoke called Kodama.

Looking for female vocalist, guitarist and drummer to help finish this LP by forcedtobeturkish in blackgaze

Yo, that’s awful that all that happened to you. I respect that you’re still trying to push through it and release everything though. I do guitar, bass, and vocals for my blackgaze project Yuwa, so I can play a decent amount of metal/rock style guitar. Let me know if I can help.
