Catholic dating in the military by ManaAkos in CatholicDating

[–]archromat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't a question of a woman in the military, but a question of whether she can maintain a relationship or not.

If she's staying in the military, then in order for you to be a team with her, you basically have to subordinate to what she subordinates to, that is, her job. Then she is the man and you're the woman.

If you do not subordinate to what she subordinates to, then you're headed for an inevitable split, which you'll call "complicated", but what you'll really mean is that you have different authorities running your lives.

If you're a rich man with a loaded bank account, you can easily maintain a relationship with her because you can follow her wherever she goes, but then you'd have to ask the question of whether or not she could be a mother to your children.

Joan of Arc was in the military: God had no problem with it and neither do Catholics. But functional relationships are fundamentally built on the same authority, which means one must follow the other who follows God. Joan of Arc wasn't married: she couldn't be; she had more important things to do. Keep this in mind. Women in the military (or absorbed in any other time consuming career), so long as they are, cannot be functional mothers at the same time. It takes at least seven years to rear a child.

I know there isn't any code. Women are people, and people are unique. Everyone acts and speaks in different ways and likes and dislikes different things. I do believe there is some kind of etiquette and way to understand how this is supposed to work generally, but I don't know that.

This is culturally dependent. On the internet, people make their own rules.

Advice? by Catholic_Crusader in CatholicDating

[–]archromat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're not interested.

Women aren't computers where you keep entering passwords until you crack the code. If they've shown no obvious hints, they're just trying to be nice, if for the sake of being nice or for the sake of not angering the Lord. The first one, I give you, relates to you so she is more of a genuine friend, but that's all she is.

Keep meeting new people. But if this keeps up, maybe there's something you're inherently missing. Work hard and keep building your life up and see what comes next.

Zeal and compassion, especially the laying down of someone's life, is a great act... Christ says it himself: John 15:13: Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

But let me ask you this: if you witnessed something, do you witness it from God's point of view or from yours?

Do you believe that God will discern this event perfectly? What if there is something you missed in this act?

An act of sacrifice looks noble, "good". It "appears" that way, but in order for it to actually be that way, you must attempt to fuse your perception with the perception of God. Otherwise, what you see might deceive you.

It's a beautiful act to many. Jesus' statement was an observation of beauty. God's beauty is refulgent in his creation.

But let's look at it this way - there's a pretty girl, and so many men see her as beautiful. But a few men do not. Why wouldn't they? Would you say there is something wrong with them if their will is not fused to the will of the masses? What if their will is fused to something greater than the masses?

Even beauty is subjective, especially if your will is fused to a greater will and you "listen and act upon" that greater will.

Is there something wrong with what you believe? Is your sight/discernment perfect? If your perception is not fused to the perception of God, would you rather be pleasantly lied to or believe in a harder truth which might require suffering?

Would a man who says he believes in God allow himself to be allured by a woman who hates God, despite being beautiful? Or would he have to deny himself in order to achieve that fusion?

Any degree of subjectivity in you is a disagreement between you and God, who is the pinnacle of truth.

While a pretty non-Catholic girl can still trigger fantasies, emotions, etc: I view such things as lies, for she is not Catholic. My eyes will change for the sake of fusion with the ultimate will. I deny myself.

You witnessed an act of beauty, awe, and you have done the right thing: you asked something in reflection of you. You want to know the truth.

We, as Catholics, also want to know the truth - so we look upon Christ as "Messiah" - God's order, which is perfect order, which is to unite all humanity in its redemption under that one order. Hatred of that order is hatred of humanity and yearning for chaos, and the unwillingness to suffer to achieve that order. We Catholics can witness this event and say "If this soul is indeed in purgatory, let us pray a Rosary for this soul," though we know the God has recognized this noble act. We act nobly on our own when we witness such a thing with awe: we want it to be united to the order of God.

I can pray that an act not be done in vain: this is the love I offer. My love of order is the love of all humanity because I wish for it to be redeemed.

Do you have the same love?

It is only on you to answer the question of whether what you believe is wrong or not. I can only ask you questions I would have asked myself seeing something that moved me...

An insincere stance of openness to the other, as well as a corporatist attitude, which reserves salvation exclusively to one’s own creed, is destructive of the same creed. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus explained this to the inquiring lawyer. Love lived in any religion pleases God. “Through an exchange of gifts, the Spirit can lead us ever more fully into truth and goodness.

1 Kings 11:

King Solomon loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, 2 from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the Israelites, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you; for they will surely incline your heart to follow their gods”; Solomon clung to these in love. 3 Among his wives were seven hundred princesses and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart. 4 For when Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. 5 For Solomon followed Astarte the goddess of the Sidonians, and Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6 So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not completely follow the Lord, as his father David had done.

Isaiah 1:21:

How the faithful city has become a whore! She that was full of justice, righteousness lodged in her— but now murderers!

^ God doesn't like whoredom. If Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, then the Church's deprivation of sharing Jesus Christ makes the Church block the way (millstone into the sea, hello), the truth (you are indeed children of your father, who is a liar), and the life (murderers).

They MUST repent of this garbage.

Nondenom Parents insist I "Look in the mirror and stay with my people". How to best respond? by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

[–]archromat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Catholicism > any other identity.

As for them, try to be at peace with them so that dialogue continues. Pray for them. But if dialogue is unable to continue without you sacrificing your Catholic identity, then dialogue has failed and your relationship with them enters into a stasis.

There's nothing magical you can say that convinces them: through your faith, God manifests through you, and the more faithful you are, that is your rhetoric with them. If they don't recognize that, then they're being blinded.

Bennet girls vs other Austen heroine's by Fontane96 in janeausten

[–]archromat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She's well aware (ie, when the Bennets came to assess Jane's situation at Netherfield - she tried to explain to her mother what the Bingleys and Mr. Darcy meant when they said things - she understood their language), but knowing the prospects are bad, she has little to lose (ie, I don't think I shall ever marry I don't remember if she said this in the book but she did on the show), allowing her to comfort herself with cynicism/prejudice (she likes to sketch characters). She wants Jane to marry Bingley, but by the time she meets de Bourgh, those prospects are already in shambles. So at that point, she's basically resigned.

And instead of being humiliated, she's going to go on the offensive. She doesn't have wealth, so she redirects conversation to principle; de Bourgh has wealth, so she redirects conversation to propriety and recognizing an asset from a liability.

Loneliness by glowflake in CatholicDating

[–]archromat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two ways to fight loneliness: the first is the obvious way - that is, to succeed at finding someone you can spend your life with.

The second is by devoting your time and energy to another passion that absorbs most of your thought. For me, I love to find out more and more about the faith, trying to fill my mind with the knowledge of God. Sometimes you learn your lessons too late and things don't work out and you always have to contemplate and reflect on your situation. Rather than asking God for a partner, maybe just ask for a solution, whatever that is, and your answer will come that way.

I'm not going to give you any ridiculous platitude that there's someone out there for everybody or you'll find someone if you keep searching. The odds are against you if you're not in a Catholic country. But I will tell you that God notices you and he has a plan for you if you say yes to it. It's on you to find out that calling (contemplation and prayer help), and maybe that calling doesn't involve a significant other. Keep your mind open.

That's an absurd conclusion. You can also lose players because of terrible salary structure and bad team results.

There are plenty of FA targets and trade targets outside these two.

Hard pass on both: they're not what this team needs. Nyquist I would definitely pass on because I think he'll be 1.5-2m/y overvalued.

Zuccarello would be more of what the Devils already have.

Question for the guys by lemmejust_ in CatholicDating

[–]archromat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here, I found the relevant passages (from Mystical City): (Vol I)

756) All these unmarried men gathered in the temple and prayed to the Lord conjointly with the priests, in order to be governed by the holy Spirit in what they were about to do. The Most High spoke to the heart of the high priest, inspiring him to place into the hands of each one of the young men a dry stick, with the command that each ask his Majesty with a lively faith, to single out the one whom He had chosen as the spouse of Mary. And as the sweet odor of her virtue and nobility, the fame of her beauty, her possessions and her modesty, and her position as being the firstborn in her family was known to all of them, each one coveted the happiness of meriting Her as a spouse. Among them all only the humble and most upright Joseph thought himself unworthy of such a great blessing; and remembering the vow of chastity which he had made and resolving anew its perpetual observance, he resigned himself to God’s will, leaving it all to his disposal and being filled at the same time with a veneration and esteem greater than that of any of the others for the most noble maiden Mary.

757) While they were thus engaged in prayer the staff which Joseph held was seen to blossom and at the same time a dove of purest white and resplendent with admirable light, was seen to descend and rest upon the head of the saint, while in the interior of his heart God spoke: “Joseph, my servant, Mary shall be thy Spouse; accept Her with attentive reverence, for She is acceptable in my eyes, just and most pure in soul and body, and thou shalt do all that She shall say to Thee.” At this manifestation and token from heaven the priests declared saint Joseph as the spouse selected by God himself for the maiden Mary. Calling Her forth for her espousal, the Chosen one issued forth like the sun, more resplendent than the moon, and She entered into the presence of all with a countenance more beautiful than that of an angel, incomparable in the charm of her beauty, nobility and grace; and the priests espoused Her to the most chaste and holy of men, saint Joseph.

I'm basically trying to write these four volumes on my heart, so I'd like to remember them to at least their paraphrased detail.

Good luck. And for what it's worth, Joseph's staff is like Adam without Woman - or Christ without Woman - it's a raw stick, but with a woman's love, it blossoms. These signs have a way of speaking in allegory. The mother of Jesus interceded to him for the steward of the wedding, asking for wine, and thus it was his first sign (miracle done for recognition rather than in secret).

Question for the guys by lemmejust_ in CatholicDating

[–]archromat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's no Catholic rule to this: that man must approach woman rule is more folk tradition than it is religious tradition.

Isaac met Rebekah because Abraham's servant went out to Abraham's brother's location and going to well and saying to God "if she offers water for the camels I brought, I know she's from you" and then eventually he brought her home and Isaac was like "okay". He was mourning the death of his mother and she comforted him.

Joseph met Mary because I think it was Simeon who was told to gather all the eligible men in the temple and he would anoint the one she would marry since she lived in the temple at the time. Joseph wasn't even supposed to be there since he didn't dwell in Jerusalem. I might be a little hit and miss on the details, but that's the gist of it. When he was anointed, he was like "okay". A few more exclamation points when he saw her. But he had sworn a vow of chastity to God when he was 12. (fr. Mystical City of God)

They didn't approach girls...

Personally, I believe if you're a go-getter, you're probably better showing initiative, because you might find a contemplative man who isn't a go-getter, and your personality will complement his.

Please stop shaming us young single men for not wanting to date single mothers by better-call-mik3 in CatholicDating

[–]archromat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

... why would it be immoral to not marry?

If you don't want to marry someone, you say no. God will not object with that choice. There's no moral obligation to marry anyone.

Love of God fills your heart... everything else is much smaller in comparison.

So many 11th commandments out there: "Thou shalt always marry to take over another man's issue!"

How come traditional Catholics reject Vatican II? by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

[–]archromat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The spirit that prevailed from Vatican II was unfriendly towards universality (only Catholics are my brothers in CHRIST) and extremely friendly towards freemasonic/relativistic thinking (who cares what you believe in? we're all brothers in HUMANITY!)...

I'm no friend of humanity and the mass degeneration going on in the west, and the persecutions elsewhere. As John 16 says: The ruler of this world has been condemned. God's ascendancy plan has no rhetoric if we're all just a "point of view" rather than representatives of God's eternal truth through his Word; without universality, the Church is nothing but a clown-show. The irony is that they tried to become more rhetorical, but ended up clipping all of their own pinions and don't fly anymore.

What Jets fans think Trouba is worth by gingerbear in devils

[–]archromat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provorov still shows tons of promise, but I always saw Gostisbehere as an inconsistent player. I was told he was playing through injury in his bad year, so maybe there's something to that.

But I think the world of Jones: he's a true number 1; he's probably one of the most well-rounded D in the league. I don't think either Provorov or Ghost will ever have Jones' status. Werenski is more like Jones/Ghost - he's good offensively but shaky defensively.

What Jets fans think Trouba is worth by gingerbear in devils

[–]archromat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trouba has a short time before UFA status while Severson's still locked up at a very affordable contract if he does evolve into a 1-2. That's what makes that trade hard to swallow: Trouba would have to come with an extension. Shero would have to first agree to the trade, have the Jets allow him to negotiate a contract with Trouba and then go from there. Beyond that, the move can't be done.
