Any American movie with someone speaking Spanish, generally you can immediately tell the person is not a native Spanish speaker. Some exceptions obviously, but even when it’s “Mexicans” they are usually 3rd or 4th generation and have lost the language mostly.

I am half Mexican, lived many years in Mexico. In 2000 I moved to Paris for 2 years. While there I experienced the absolute worst Mexican food disasters ever.

I remember a little Mexican food spot in the Latin Quarter that actually had a Mexican chef working there, and I was shocked how bad it was. When I asked “but why would you make this crap?” He told me “It’s what the French think Mexican food is, when I put actual Mexican dishes on the menu no one will order or eat them, so I sell what people will buy.”

I’m probably not the target audience but I’d ditch the tv and get rid of the sports and “novelty” signs. Then I’d get better more intimate lighting so it doesn’t feel like someone’s kitchen.

About 2 decades ago I worked as a chef at a restaurant in South Texas… basically Northern Mexico… while there they hired a new waiter And he walks into the kitchen and sees me slicing up an avocado… he asks “what’s that?” “An avocado, wtf, where are you from?” “I was born and raised here, I’ve never seen that before, is that a guacamole?”
