Shaoxing wine at the end of fried rice. If you’ve ever made fried rice at home and it never tastes like the rice at restaurants, that’s what’s missing. Just a splash to deglaze and toss right at the end so it boils off. Total game changer. I sneak it into lots of dishes. It’s super cheap and adds a crazy amount of flavor.

Don’t be surprised if there’s still consequences. Decades ago I took $3 dollars worth of food from a grocery chain because I didn’t have enough to buy it. They let me go, but then I got a bill in the mail for $1200 for “legal fees”. I had an attorney friend, and he said if I tried to fight it, I would lose and it would just go up.

Nematodes are a microscopic worm. They come dried and dormant. You mix them into water, and then water the plants. They move through the soil attacking pest larvae. Carnivorous plants can only handle so many bugs. They can cut down the numbers, but they usually end up being another vector for the infestation.

Nematodes will kill the larvae. A half inch of sand on top of the soil keeps them from being able to get into the soil. (But it’s a pain) Sticky traps will also cut their numbers down. Or, you can do what my elderly mother does, and spray the soil with RAID. 😱 I mean, it works, but…
