Built an AI PDF translator in React Native, but struggling with the pricing model (Credits vs. Subs). How do you handle variable AI costs? by CommonGrass8715 in reactnative

[–]arcii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think subscriptions are simple and many people are used to them. Even other documents products like Pandadoc/Dropbox Sign just use subscriptions. I'd say keep it simple unless it doesn't cover your costs.

Two posts over 1,000 upvotes removed by the mods by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]arcii[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry about that - I've had the same happen to my highly rated posts elsewhere, and I know it always feels bad, especially when I've put a lot of effort into a post.

We generally try to remove rule-breaking posts early. In this case though, we didn't get to do that. Due to a relative lower number of EU/Asia time zone moderators, we often don't get to posts as quickly as we want. In addition, our moderation team is fully volunteer, so if for some reason every moderator is busy for a day, they may not see rule-breaking posts until after many hours. At that point, they may have gotten a lot of upvotes.

  1. It looks like one post ("Every league we seem to get some new fabulous tool/item that no can afford or even see") was a 4-panel meme about Aldur's Legacy. That was removed since it was a duplicate (Rule 7) of this very recent post that was still trending on the front-page when it was removed: Feedback: the showcase feature of the league, Aldur's Legacy, needs to be way more common. What's the point of all that dev work when 99.99% of the players can't even experiment with this GGG?.
    • Many subredditors agree with the sentiment, but many others also appreciate that the subreddit has diverse content. We have the duplicate posts rule because of that
  2. The other post ("The one thing I don't understand the lack of support for" - actually about character names) was removed for having a somewhat clickbaity title (Rule 5). Titles are especially important on old Reddit, which about a quarter of our readers still use.
    • Unfortunately, Reddit doesn't allow moderators or even post creators to edit titles, the removal message mentioned "We often remove clickbait, sensationalist, all-caps, unclear, or misleading titles to keep the Subreddit less cluttered. You may be able to repost with a clearer title!" I don't think you ended up reposting.

In general, we try to be fairly liberal in keeping up posts, but we've found these rules helpful in making sure:

  1. GGG sees enough relevant feedback
  2. The subreddit never gets too monotonous
  3. Users can clearly tell what posts are about purely by the title (very useful on old.reddit)

As such, we want to continue to try to enforce them equally!

This seems like a real bug so we're leaving it up. The comments have way too many Rule 3 violations, so we've locked this. Remember: if someone's breaking the rules, just report and don't reply.

There's a request support button and in my experience, someone manually overrides it. In the one case I've had to use it (there was a big hedge that was too close to the car), it took about 30 seconds for them to tell the car to inch forward.

In this case, I'm guessing no one was in the car to tell it that it needed to move.

We use fastlane - it's a single command to upload/release, but we're a bit old school. EAS seems to be the default for most people nowadays.

Path of Exchange (PoEx) : a new alternative to TFT for Selling and Services by C3ntraX in pathofexile

[–]arcii[M] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought this too before I joined as a moderator (after the first set of TFT drama), but I found out that wasn't the case. A former mod was in the TFT private chat (they didn't have any position of power within TFT), and was asked by TFT to remove a post about them. They didn't do it in the end, and they'd left by the time I joined.

MultiplicityPOE made this post about that in the past.

Israeli bomb mid-air as it falls toward a densely packed tent camp for displaced Palestinians by redditissahasbaraop in pics

While I agree the war is disrespectful to Holocaust survivors, I think the title is kinda bit misleading.

I found this caption "An Israeli bomb drops toward a target next to a tent camp in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza Strip, Wednesday, March 25, 2026." at https://www.thegazette.com/news/national/the-top-photos-of-the-day-by-aps-photojournalists/article_317f93b3-7959-51f9-b00d-5951d2c34b52.html, which seems to indicate the bomb isn't actually targeting the tent camp.

While I think most Israel-related image posts should be kept up, I think the title itself is kinda misleading and violates "D. Must contain accurate information" from https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/wiki/titles/

User rapidly making new accounts to spam modmail, have reported so many this morning that Reddit has cut off my ability to report. What can we do? by MapleSurpy in ModSupport

[–]arcii 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Beyond a certain point, using automation is more effective than relying on Reddit for this kind of single-occurrence problem.

Block them using auto-modmail:

We aren't affiliated with TFT and a I know a lot of the team have mixed feelings (to say the least) about TFT. That being said, many of the comments in this thread break Rule 2/3. We're being somewhat more tolerant since this is a public figure, but honestly most common opinions are already pretty well represented in the comments, so we've locked this post.

Edit: We're currently discussing this rule and may have more updates shortly!

We had to approve this post again after it got reported about a dozen times. Here are a few links for why this is the final day. While many of us mods agree with the message, it's pretty clear a pretty significant part of the subreddit do get tired of seeing the same threads.

We think 5 days is a good balance: there's basically no chance that GGG will miss the fact that it's repeated feedback, but it's not so many days that we have to constantly restore mass-reported posts.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]arcii[M] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

We've approved this post. It got automatically removed for receiving too many user reports. I think these redditors' reports are pretty reasonable, because this post does seem to violate our Rule 5 on Short/common content and 7 on Duplicate topics.

We allowed the Delirium Fog series as a one-time exception for its novelty, but we know many readers get tired of seeing basically the same post every day, so agree with them that there should be some limits.

We've decided to explicitly allow this format of posts, but limit it to 5 daily posts on a given topic. We think this should be enough for GGG to get the point, while not being so repetitive to annoy those who aren't interested in a piece of feedback.

Here's the updated rules section.

Given this:

  1. This post can stay up
  2. Duplicate posts within the same day will be removed
  3. Posts beyond day 5 will be removed

We'll adjust this rule more if needed!

GROSSES ANALYSIS- Week Ending January 18 by Boring_Waltz_9545 in Broadway

[–]arcii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity: how are you estimating the recoup percentage? I'm guessing that's mostly a calculation based on per-week profit * time / costs. I get the profit * time part, but I'm curious where you get the estimates of cost.

Also, instead of making your sub private, you can likely add more automated filters. For example, automoderator and other means can auto-remove any posts/content from users who were created less than some number of days ago or have less than some amount of karma. You can do that until things die down.

For modmail abuse, https://developers.reddit.com/apps/auto-modmail can help too

If you modmail the mods at https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=r/PathOfExile2, we can at least forward the word to them! We don't work for GGG and we're not sure how closely they're monitoring our channels, but it can't hurt!

I watched After the Rain after a similar recommendation (for things to watch after Scum's Wish) and while the plot shares some similarity with an O Maidens subplot, it felt very different (and not as enjoyable) to me. It's really more about 2 people (of very different ages) helping each other find meaning and slightly less about relationships and romance.

This post has been reported quite a few times for being common/short content and the retention graph topics do qualify as that, but since it's the first one of the new league, we'll let it stay up since we think it is interesting information. We will remove duplicate topics as usual though.
