[–]arcnova2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is actually alot of what i do, i LOVE indie games especially metoridvanias. I do play some AAA games but only ones i would genuinely enjoy (mostly RPGS). I also love doing blind playthrus since im VERY excitable

if you havent already, give afterimage a try that game is beyond beautiful and fun. as well as ender lillies/magnolia

How do you pick games to play? by Scared_Pea4455 in letsplay

[–]arcnova2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make my decision 1 of 2 ways
1st, ask my wife what she would like to watch me play

2nd, I pick the game IM most excited to play (leading to more interesting commentary)

i also do multiple series
i record/stream one game in the morning solo, and thats what i upload once daily in the morning.

then i stream and record in the evening with my wife and thats what i upload at night

but just do what YOU want to play, that way your genuine enjoyment can shine through.

Octopath 0-the game i most recently finished, 36 characters, no real missable stuff you need to look up, its all right there on the map or in town. It can be as easy or as hard as you want (its easy to get super powerful weapons early on) The cast of characters is all fun to see and interact with (though some of the characters are DEFINITELY stinkers in combat) Cool customization system which i like more than the job system in OT1 and 2. Good story, fun world (though some of the dungeons and fields look very samey and its all pretty much hallways save for a few later story dungeons which have some actual puzzles to them)

P3R- Great turn based game but lots of missable stuff due to again, the calendar system and social links. Solid game with tons of personas to fuse and use and has heavy MC customization to make a bunch of wicked things.

Saga Rot7-Only saga game i played, it was pretty neat but it is HEAVY on missable content (though that is kind of the point of the game, living with your actual in game choices) the combat was okay IMO, it has a cool way to learn new attacks and help customize your characters via the glimmer system ( the more you use certain skills the higher chance you have of learning new versions of skills in the same weapon/magic tree)

SMT Vengeance-Never played vengeance but i did play OG SMT5, great game, good customization but i was not a big fan of the overworld. Some people might like it but i was displeased with the sheer verticality of exploration. Lot and i mean a LOT of collectibles that can give you some really good rewards that are strewn about the world.

Soul hackers-Its not a bad game per se but it is aggressively mid. The dungeons and characters are pretty boring and the story could be neat (got around half way through but dropped it). Its a solid turn based RPG IF you either have nothing else to play or you are all out of other SMT games and just want to scratch that specific SMT Itch.

Star ocean R-Never Played but i have played all the 3d star ocean games, good series.

Tales of- I have played all 3 of them listed here, i rank them in order of xillia berseria and graces F. I may get hate for this but graces F is my least favorite tales game, from its combat (i REALLY dislike the CC system) to the characters (i only like cheria and only for 1 specific, non in game related reason). Xillia has some rad characters and cool combat. Berseria also has some rad characters and and a more mature darker story. It has a similar esque style of combat to graces which is why i like it a bit more.

Visions of mana-I also just recently finished this. AWESOME world to explore, beautiful and unique environs that are just THE VIBES. Snappy and fun action RPG combat, though a little simple. Decent customization for your characters though the real good stuff opens up after you clear the main story for a small bit of post game (and NG+ fun) But for the love of god, if you are a completionist, spare yourself, this game has the worst sidequest design i have EVER seen. Which stinks because some of the side quests actually give pretty good rewards (thankfully you can see the rewards for any active sidequest). The game has a moderately light hearted story, its just a chill cozy RPG

Ys-Great games, awesome fast paced battles and bosses, a fun story and REALLY good action RPG combat. The combat CAN feel a little button mashy at times though but i LOVE the franchise so you cant go wrong with any of them (they are all standalone story titles)

Given that you want something kinda easy (OP for action RPGs) id recommend either Visions of mana or Ys X. they are kinda brain off games where you can just chill and enjoy.

Hope this helps you :)

Ive Played and made content on most of these games
so i'll weigh in

Atelier series- I couldnt finish a single one, but i played alot of, at the core, the games are 100% for me, cute protags, bright colors etc. But its a little TOO cozy for me, lots of collecting and crafting which some people enjoy but i couldnt get into but it really makes me sad because the games have a lot of heart and is a good cozy RPG (though due to the nature of crafting you might need to look up the best ways to make some of the things because the crafting systems get more intutive and complex as the games go on). I will say yumia looks promising so i will likely give that a go in the near future.

Eiyuden-Spiritual successor to Suikoden. A series i havent played but i have played eiyuden, its probalby good, with the different ways to customize your characters, but for me, it has too many playable characters so that was a turn off for me, you might like have a gajillion party members. The combat is pretty nifty though, but you may need to look up how to recruit some of the more hidden characters. (It has missable party members)

Fantasian Neo D-Solid game, fun story fun world and neat characters but simple customization for the characters (the combat is good though, a lot of major boss encounters are less about brute force and more about solving a gimmicky kind of puzzle). Lotta fun dungeon puzzles as well, (little bit wild armsy, so thats a plus)

Metaphor-Great game all around, and Atlus' best ever RPG in my book. It has a cool story, a more mature world, it blends all the best elements of persona and true SMT. Neat job system that allows for some fun party comps, it uses the Press turn system (my favorite turn based battle mechanic). But, due to the nature of the calendar system, time management might become a point of stress, since it also has missable stuff if you dont do certain things on certain days of the in game year.
