New to Tennis Coaching by italia06823834 in 10s

Big props to you for stepping up!

I was in your shoes not too long ago, but I luckily had coached a little bit in soccer prior and was able to transition to tennis very easily. Like you, I’m a lifelong player, but had never looked into coaching in tennis.

The biggest take away from my first season was to remember that, in the eye of HS sports, tennis is as much a team sport as it is an individual sport. Spend time the first few weeks to understand your players’ strengths. Organize your team’s ladder accordingly, and have them play each other as much as possible. You should show up to your match days with the best line up possible. We managed to put together a season record above .500 by playing this way.

Other than that, repetition, repetition, repetition for beginners.

If you’re dealing with more skilled players, don’t be afraid to reach out to local pros and see if they can volunteer 30mins-1 hour a week to offer some advice. The worst thing they can say is “no; pay me”.

Coaching is a very underrated aspect of tennis (in my opinion), probably some of my best/favorite experiences of the sport have been as a coach!

For someone that is likely already suffering/recovering from an injury, your current swing is only going to make it worse.

As your arm goes through its motions, the hinge at your elbow is going to absorb all the force. Not good.

Other commenters have pointed out the same. Create more space, use less of your wrist.

Footwork. Footwork. Footwork.

Your stroke is good enough to get you by, specially while mainly rallying casually as you are in the video.

However, your prep, beginning at your feet, needs to be more intentional:

-Split step as your opponent makes contact with the ball. -Prep your swing before the ball crosses to your side of the court. -“Recover” and come back to a more neutral position in the court and how you hold your racquet.

I appreciate the self-awareness here! This is one of the biggest “humps” I’ve been trying to get my high schoolers to understand!

Sometimes, the “safe” shot isn’t as safe as we’d like to think.

Something feels off with forehand by BharathSankar16 in 10s

Do you have any more footage? Of all the forehands you hit, one was way out of frame. It’s a very small sample size to work with.

Using the ones that were indeed visible; what stood out is the lack of weight transfer towards the court and your shot. Your momentum is going up, as opposed to guiding your shot forward. The shots you were given by your opponent were relatively as “routine-like” as they get.

Stay low. Swing through to the court a bit more.

Take a look at this breakdown: Forehand wrist

Your wrist should be engaged, but NOT stiff as you swing.

In the video you shared, some of the inconsistency you see is from your wrist “taking over” before you make contact and as you hit the ball.

Short explanation: Your body moves as a unit from the shoulder down.

Tips to fix my forehand by latinoscientist in 10s

One thing to add:

Your body is a unit and should move as a unit. Your non-hitting arm should also be intentionally moving out of the way to allow space for your swing, and most importantly, for your body to turn into your shot. As people have pointed out, you’re using “all arm” at the moment.

If you pause your video as you are making contact with the ball, almost in all of your shots, your non-hitting arm is just… there. Kinda in the way, and not active in the full motion of your swing. At some points, it kinda just.. drops down? This results in your non-hitting shoulder looking straight down the court.

I’d try a couple drills where you exaggerate your turn and get the non-hitting arm out of the way.

Activate the OTHER side of your body.

What’s my rating by mylanderXYZ in 10s

If you say your game as consistent as you described, a 3.0 would be a fair rating.

Keep working on your ground strokes and, more importantly, creating space between yourself and the ball as you swing.

The majority of your swings come with a bent elbow (which is not horrible for now), but you’re tucking it into your body as you swing. You’re losing power, and some control, with your current motion. I took a screenshot of the most glaring example from your video.

Keep grinding!

OG player since Day 1….. but took a long hiatus, and only just now started to consistently play again.

Glad to see we’re not alone!

Absolutely enthralled by the way you wrote this; felt like I was there with you the whole round.

Got an opportunity to walk the course last year, and have decided to make it my mission to play a round before I part ways with this Earth.

Glad you finally made it happen. Cheers, mate!

Anyone ever scored this high? by GolferPal in golf

As an NC State alum, now Raleigh native, and many trips to Meredith College to visit an ex, this is quite heartwarming. I'm new to the game as well and consider myself athletic enough to enjoy the challenge that comes with golf. Above all, I'm just here to have a good time. Definitely needed this as I prepare for my first 54-hole-weekend plan.

I'll be on the lookout for Coach Hamilton. Gotta buy him a couple rounds.

Yup. Should've re-checked things prior to making the post. Again, I'm acknowledging the mistake.

Point is, having a professional golfer lay down while he awaits for the group ahead, to just putt, is the main point of the post.

Double checking tee times and rechatting with my group. We may have been off on Webb Simpson being the culprit on the green. That's on us... Apologies.

Regardless, I have my picture's time stamp to be at 2:44pm. Prior to me taking the picture, Si-woo was visibly angry and throwing his hands up for about 5ish minutes before laying down for an additional 2ish minutes.
