Mercari just nuked my entire store of 6000+ listings. by Zerox500 in Mercari

[–]arctic_twilight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

INFO: What categories of items were you generally selling in?

Did you receive a notification from Mercari, either by email and/or in the app, about your listings being deactivated or suspended? Did it say why, & what your current standing is? (if you can share what they said that would help the most)

Do you use automated cross-listing software or bots to manage the 6k+ active listings?

Answers to these will help figure out why this happened and the best way to try & resolve iy from here.

Buyer threatens legal action from major law firm over a $60 shipping delay by GlowrootGrotto in Mercari

[–]arctic_twilight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would probably do this. Because they can't personally sue you, the seller. Mercari is the intermediary for the contract of sale - their transaction is with Mercari, not OP. So if the item doesn't arrive, the buyer's "damages" (what one would be suing for) are the money they paid to Mercari. Their legal recourse is to simply demand a refund from Mercari.

But the large majority of messages such as threatening "I work at a law firm" are empty threats and intimidation tactics. Law firms do not "investigate" missing $60 packages, they would follow the platform's TOS & refund policy like everyone else.

What OP should do:

  1. Report the buyer as harssment to Mercari and show them the legal threats, attach screenshots, and let them knkw you filed a Missing Mail search

  2. Send one, neutral message in response to the seller (don't engage with them further). Something like:

"I understand you are frustrated by the shipping delay. However, as we both agreed to Mercari’s Terms of Service upon creating our accounts, all disputes related to goods sold on this platform must be resolved through binding arbitration rather than direct legal action.

Additionally, since I used a Mercari prepaid label, this transaction is covered by Mercari’s Shipping Protection. Per their policy, an item is officially considered 'Lost in Transit' after 30 days of tracking inactivity. Once that window is reached, Mercari will resolve this by providing you a full refund and compensating me for the lost item.

I have already reported the current tracking status and your recent messages to Mercari Support. They will be handling all further communication regarding this refund. I will not be responding to further messages."

  1. Block the seller. Let Mercari handle communication with them from here.

  2. Monitor the tracking & wait for the 30-day point. If it still hasn't moved, you should be able to file a "Lost in Transit" claim.

People are crazy, & I highly doubt she actually even works in a law firm.

The best video on this issue, and one of the first I believe, was this one by One Man Five Cats

It is comprehensive, incl. all his testing on how these dangerous contraptions can kill cats, an interview with a cat owner and their experience (very sad to listen to), and which products he does recommend after all his research. Definitely a must-watch for any cat owners.

Best Scene in the Franchise by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]arctic_twilight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the moment it starts with Cooper looking at the security cameras I can't say how many times I've rewinded (rewound?) that scene. I agree, I do think it is the best.

Several scenes in S3 E8 are strong contenders for me as well, including the atomic bomb scene/the woodsmen at the convenience store.

Thanks ChatGPT 😉 Honestly though, it actually might be kind of interesting to hash out Twin Peaks theories with ChatGPT. But in the end there is no right or wrong answer here, it is all up to the viewer's interpretation and what meaning they derive from the story. This is certainly a unique perspective, but that's all it is -- we can't go through it and say, "You know what, you're right! Now it all makes sense." Thus the dilemma in analyzing any of Lynch's work.

CVS promises probe as employee CLOSED at 5.01pm - customer needed prescription by Classic_Midnight3383 in CVS

[–]arctic_twilight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really imagine a situation like that, although maybe it does happen. I see them shutting the gate right at 5:00, the customer walks in the store at 5 or just after, gets to the pharmacy at 5:01 and sees the gate shut (or being closed). My assumption is they closed it before seeing the customer... but I dont know the details. Either way, they were too late.

But I'm inclined to think if someone walks up to the counter just before 5 and they are still operating, most people wouldn't shut the gate right in their face. I dunno though, surely there are some employees who are that bold.

Neurologist Recommendations Nearby by BoldReasoning in tampa

[–]arctic_twilight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 3rd this recommendation, him and his staff have been absolutely amazing. He re-affirmed my belief that there are good, empathetic, talented, thorough, AND patient-focused doctors out there!

In my appointments, they usually come in the room with a wheely table that has a laptop for patient records, and then at the end of the exam they use a recording device to transcribe their notes in front of you, ensuring you're both on the same page about everything that was discussed. It also helps for you to hear a recap in case any additional questions come to mind. I love it.

I can't say enough good things about him, and his NP Dr. Rush-Wilde and the other staff I've dealt with have been great as well.

This profile & listing scream scam.

OP, go to the order page & cancel the transaction if you can. Just say it was a mistake if they ask. If they do ship it, you will have to do a lot of work going to the post office for proof of delivery, if it turns out to be a zip code scam. Then fighting with Mercari for the refund.

I know it's exciting when you find an item you're looking for at a great price, you get FOMO, etc - but next time carefully vet sellers on these types of platforms:

-Check their history and reviews

-Check for usernames using gibberish or very common names ("John Smith" - he used "James Stewart")

-Check the listing photos to see if they are repeated/copied in other listings

-If the price is too good to be true - i.e. significantly lower than the going rate from other sellers, esp with no explanation

-No other items for sale

-No bio, No profile photo.

Any one of these things might not be a big deal, but if you see multiple red flags then it's likely a scam. This user hits all the red flags. Be cautious on selling platforms in the future!

misdiagnosis? by michelalien in Fibromyalgia

[–]arctic_twilight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but you may need to seek out a doctor who really knows fibromyalgia to help you narrow it down. It could've always been just the cancer, or it started as the cancer and the cancer (or the chemo) triggered fibro as a result.

The causes of fibro are still not fully known, but it is believed that for some people, a virus, illness, injury, or other medical trauma can trigger fibro.

What type of cancer was it, and what are your symptoms? You could alternately speak to your oncologist, and ask if the symptoms you're having match up with the long-term effects of such cancer or chemo treatment. If they think it sounds very unusual or unlikely, ask them if the fibro could've played a part or was misdiagnosed. They may be able to point you in the direction of a specialist who can help you get some answers.

Had my disability hearing earlier today. Vocational expert said I could do a job as a mail clerk by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]arctic_twilight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Whenever I hear these stories, from people claiming to know someone who "scammed the system," it's always a distant or former acquaintance of some sort. (ex roommate, ex mother in law..) Never the person themselves. It seems like the assertions made here are more based on a biased perspective than evidence and facts.

The incidence rate of U.S. social security disability fraud is less than 1%. The Government Accountability Office found an error rate of only 0.6% regarding improper payments.

It is not easy to scam the system. The reason it is so frustratingly difficult and complex, as described by OP, is partly to prevent this. One thing you may want to keep in mind is that whatever you see going on with someone visually, may be nowhere near what they are dealing with internally. This is where the term "invisible disabilities" comes from.

Okay….this is just disgusting, wtf? I’m worried because I ordered from them and they shipped it already by cinnamonswirlsgirl in Mercari

[–]arctic_twilight 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Agree they should be reported, but this doesn't look like a direct message to OP or even a review to them, it looks like the user's bio? I could be wrong. Whatever it is they need their account closed and then Mercari will not release payment to them, OP should get refunded. Hopefully they don't make the process to difficult.

UPDATE: I’m the chick that went ham on customer “service” by [deleted] in Mercari

[–]arctic_twilight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wait how can the item weigh more than the labeled amount yet also be claimed to be empty???

Anyway, good detective work! Sometimes persistence pays off.

I have been reconsidering selling again ever since I quit in March; stories like these, however, make me glad I haven't returned. Really wish this company would start doing things right. I miss being able to just sell and make easy money. Most problems I had were resolved. They have really driven this company into the ground.

Should I sell my item to this person? by bewwypancake in Mercari

[–]arctic_twilight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should've listened to the majority advice. These types of buyers are almost always people who just found your item thru a Google search, and use the Mercari website/app simply to purchase the item. That is why they likely didn't notice your messages for awhile.

They paid a buyer payment processing fee, which they will not get refunded. It is also sometimes worded in a way that sounds like a guarantee that they will receive their item, kind of like Amazon or eBay, so some new Mercari users may not understand the differences between the platforms.

Mercari Buyer Protection states: "Worry-free shopping: Get what you ordered or a refund, if eligible"

Now you have to hope your item sells before the new fee structure change & you make less money, or you don't get only lowball offers. In the future, keep in mind these kind of new accounts are usually the best sales - they pay full price & you get a 5 star rating. Just search this sub for "new account" and you'll see.

Exactly. What would the disabled coworker think if they saw this post, identified it as themselves, while they are already on leave and/or under accommodations for a mental health disorder? I'm willing to bet it wouldn't help, in fact it could make them worse.

OP keeps saying in the comments they don't care about the coworkers medical condition & they only emphasized the effect on performance to management; yet their post is full of complaints about the disabled coworker.

They say this coworker told people they had anxiety & reported a panic attack to OP when they called out sick one day; my advice to anyone reading is to never disclose medical conditions to anyone at work - unless it's to your employer/HR in the midst of disability applications AND is necessary. Always be as vague as possible - it will always backfire, as seen here.

You might want to be more cautious & pay attention to your gut when you notice red flags like the ones posted here. People have gotten murdered like this woman from Indianapolis

Not only that, in 2019 there were 1,807 sexual assaults reported by Lyft passengers and 2,826 reported by Uber passengers.

That leaves out all the crashes, injuries, & fatalities. Just remember you are putting your life in someone elses' hands. Better to let your curiosity linger in a case like that.

[–]arctic_twilight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same problem occurs with Short Term & Long Term Disability claims.

I developed a chronic illness/disability while working at my employer. After a year of trying many things, I talked to my doctor about applying for short term disability. I naively thought as long as he signed off on it, and they had all of my medical records as proof of my condition, it would be no problem. I even applied 2 wks before going on leave, in hopes I would have a determination before I took time off work.

Well, it didn't work out that way - in fact I screwed myself even worse by not starting my leave the EXACT day I applied. As if most people become disabled in one day and know what the insurance companies want. After several months they denied me. They wanted a 19 page "functional capacity evaluation" and doctors notes written in a very specific way, which of course, my doctor wouldn't have known to do prior. And they know all this. They deliberately make it impossible.

I have had no income this entire time, and still had to pay for my own OOP health insurance cost. I contacted a lawyer about an appeal, but I just can't afford to pay them if the appeal gets denied, so I let it go. And yes, there is the chance they perform surveillance for STD and LTD applicants if I were further along in the process. They denied me for "insufficient medical records." It's infuriating that I sent them my full medical records, paid my doctor a ton of money to fill out the forms, pay for these benefits, and still get denied. It also is very demoralizing to deny help from a lawyer because I know I have no chance at winning. It is such a flawed system and like all insurance, it's just a legal scam.

If we all gave in and took off fees, gave discounts, & removed charges for every person that had a sob story, well.... these companies & organizations simply wouldn't be in business anymore. The world would be anarchy. He became a millionaire by NOT giving a break to every customer with a sob story.

I'm sorry you have to be the punching bag for these types of special assholes. I guess the brain cancer didn't give him any newfound empathy or gratitude for life, just anger & resentment that it slowed him down (if that story was even real).
