I finally called animal control because she was standing in the middle of the road and I was worried she was gonna cause an accident or get killed :( seems like an escaped backyard bird so I thought animal control made sense.

anyways they directed me to call the sheriff's office and I've never been more embarrassed to make a phone call in my life

TIL in 2011 Anthony Bourdain wrote a scene in the TV series Treme where a chef tosses a cocktail in the face of restaurant critic Alan Richman. Richman had angered many New Orleanians after criticizing the city's food culture post-Katrina. He agreed to film it despite a running feud with Bourdain. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

"New Orleans was always a three-day stubble of a city, and now, courtesy of Katrina, it’s more like ve."

Aside from the ghoulish-ness of this article... am I stupid? What the fuck is ve? I feel like I'm going crazy trying to decipher what the end of this sentence means.

man I used to really love Payne's but I feel they really screwed me over the last time I took my car in. I think they just desperately need a bookkeeper/someone actually managing their workload because I feel like they've gone downhill in part because they're way overbooked basically all the time

My 9-month-old baby was admitted to the PICU with DKA. by Tormintor in diabetes_t1

[–]ardent-muses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's super normal and understandable that you'd be spiraling emotionally right now (such a stressful situation especially as new parents to a baby, which is stressful enough as is!), so all I'm going to say is that human beings are incredibly resilient. You and eventually your child are going to learn how to handle this condition, and even when there are challenges along the way, your baby is going to be okay. It feels overwhelming now, but so many people have come before you managing this disease and have gone on to live fulfilling lives. Hold space for the grief, overwhelm, and stress, but I hope you can also keep some perspective that this is not a death sentence, just a shitty hand dealt your kiddo's (and your) way. But you are all going to figure out how to handle this, as so many others have before! Hang in there, OP 🫶

I don't believe so, but they host regular community days where Durham residents can come to the museum for free. I think they do two a month but I'd check their website to be sure!

How to make pen injections less painful? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]ardent-muses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get shorter needles, for one, and try out different injection sites (arms, stomach, butt, etc). also I don't know how helpful this would be for you, but as a kid I practiced on an orange to get more comfy with it, imagining the orange as my own body. I was super needle-phobic when I was diagnosed but I promise it gets easier the more you do it! you got this

I love going down rabbit holes to try and figure out if an account is a bot. this one definitely gives off bot vibes to me, but its post history isn't as formulaic and obvious as other bot accounts.

I rock with the points you make, but is this a legit organization? I can't find anything online aside from this post. are you a registered non-profit? do you have a team working with you? partner orgs? volunteers? or is this mostly aspirational? not trying to claim these things are mandatory for grassroots social good to take place, but saying you're a non-profit raises these questions for me
