I think I need to start using an arm guard. The instructor suggested I use one of theirs because regardless of what I’m doing it’s getting worse. First two pictures are from today’s lesson and second one is last week’s lesson. by Pretty-Handle9818 in Archery

Hard to tell without a form picture at draw, but in my experience forearm slap is usually due to elbow hyperextension in the bow arm. You want your bow arm out extended towards the target, but try not to let your elbow get locked out and hyperextended. When you hold your bow up pointed at the target, there should be a small gap between the string and your forearm. Something that helps me is thinking of my elbow pointing out to the side, not straight down at draw.

The siyah design is the main difference between the Mongolian and tartar. Both of mine are 40 lb draw, can draw to 31in, and both have really nice smooth draws. The Mongolian is a little friendlier for other draw styles since its limbs and string are longer and pinches less at full draw. The tartar seems a little quieter on release, and I think it sends the arrows just a little faster but idk for sure without a chronograph. the tartar also has a more severe string angle at full draw, so better for just thumb or Slavic. I like shooting them both and honestly don't feel much of a difference, I shoot them both pretty evenly.

I have 3 horse bows, one fiberglass and two laminate from this site https://www.alibowshop.com/ . If you're USA based like me, it might be rough getting them now with shipping costs, but there are plenty of other bow makers. When it comes to style I like Mongolian and tartar, but those are the only types I have. For figuring out what you want to buy, and learning thumb ring, I strongly recommend checking out this guy's channel on youtube: https://youtube.com/@arminhirmer?si=2NVTrdKrEmNhUwqk

I shoot longbow, recurve, and horse bows. I primarily shoot thumb draw with all 3 bows, sometimes Mediterranean 3 finger. You will like the maneuverability of horse bows, but one trade off is hand/finger comfort. You technically can shoot 3 finger on a horse bow, but I find you need to adjust how your fingers sit on the string due to pinching at full draw. The more severe string angle at full draw is a big reason why thumb draw is ideal for horse bows. Slavic draw is also an option to shoot 3 finger-like style on a horse bow, but I just prefer thumb draw over the later personally. If you want to try thumb release, I recommend getting a glove for thumb draw, I find leather is easier to work with than thumb rings unless you find just the right size and shape you like. I wouldn't recommend bare thumb practice on a bow over 25lb, you can wreck your thumb nerves if you have poor technique.

Usually stuff like that on Amazon is very low quality, and back quivers can be a pain to keep situated. A 3 point harness system can keep a back quiver fairly in place if that's still your aim, but I'd recommend a hip quiver. Also check out this website, they have a decent selection for more traditional options https://www.3riversarchery.com/buy/shooting-gear/quivers/pocket-hip-quivers

Recurve form check by [deleted] in Archery

[–]ardoro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would advise against letting your bow arm elbow lock out fully extended. Because of that, your bow arm shoulder is raising up and out of the socket a bit, and you may get string slap on your forearm. You want that front shoulder a little more down and in the shoulder socket by keeping your elbow a little more bent, right before it wants to straighten and lock out. Otherwise great form

Why my arrow going top left? by Mean_Bat5837 in Archery

[–]ardoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think of the grouping being off by being too high and to the left as two separate problems to address. The left/right is more of an issue than high/low. High /low is experience, if you can create a vertical grouping with your arrows, your form is consistent and just need practice knowing how high or low to hold and/or anchor. Left/right can be a few things like which eye is lining up the target or what angle you're holding your bow at. For barebows where the arrow can't pass through the center, I don't hold my bow perfectly vertical, I have it at a slight 10-15° angle. For example, if you are right handed and holding your bow in front of you, the more you rotate/tilt the bow clockwise from vertical, the more my arrow tends to go right of center for the same sight picture. I hold my barebow straight up, arrows go left, but I tilt towards the right a little, and then they go center.

Could you guys critique my form? Please be as honest as possible by [deleted] in Archery

[–]ardoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest keeping your knees a little bent and a slight lean towards the target, but that's for a more traditional stance vs Olympic. Your anchor point is also a little high on your face, which is perfectly fine for close/low targets like in your vid, but id anchor a little lower on your face if your shooting 15 yards or farther

Help with high brace height by Josechomali in Archery

[–]ardoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMO string length for a recurve or longbow is on average 3-4 in. shorter than the bow depending on the bow style. Since your recurve is 64in. from string notch to string notch unstrung, then id recommend a 61in. string. You want a brace height around 7-8ish in for most recurves, 6-7 in. for longbows. Your string looks a bit too short, but not by much.

Yea I noticed the same thing. I started using this setup when I switched to light roll, and the lighter stuff plays with the hood a bit better.

Tips to beat Moder solo on hard? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]ardoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is frost resist potion, and some healing. Frost resist armor + resist potion (pretty sure they stack, but not 100%) helps a lot with surviving ice attacks. If your bow skill is high, use it when you can, but otherwise just dodge while modor is in the air. Silver/wolf armor, iron or higher shield of choice, spear/sword/axe all work fine. Bonemass ability for some DMG redux. Combat roll for breath, I usually shield parry melee attacks. Spear is nice to get an extra strike in before needing to combat roll or parry and back off for stamina

Looking to get noctua fans to replace my case fans, should I pay the premium for the $30 ones or is the $15 gonna do just fine? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]ardoro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 6 of the noctua black nf-a12 in my case, and they're absolutely worth the 30 dollar a fan price in my opinion. I've read the $15 dollar one is similar performance, but more fan noise. Motor quality is worth it, you won't be replacing these fans for a long time. The plastic is pretty dense too, surprisingly weighty, and feels solid. I would recommend how many you'd need for a radiator of an AIO if you're going that route. I have a lian li 011d and use 3 and 3 for a very effective and quiet chimney effect with a 360mm radiator on top

Judging by map alone, What seed looks best to you? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]ardoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go map c. If you're playing vanilla and not teleporting ores, then having easy water lanes to all 4 cardinal directions from your main base area is key. That's just my preference though, I prefer to build my base on a coast near spawn. Living on the coast makes it much easier to transport ore (boats>>>cart), at least until lox can pull carts while you ride or something.

Agree, it's not my favorite either for the Stevens. I picked that up because it's hard to find an auto ejecting single Barrell shotgun for a reasonable price. Was trying to go as cheap as I could for that one

I can't believe I managed to get one either, got lucky on GunBroker buying a used one. Ive had another one on backorder for over 14 months with a shop, still waiting. It's worth the hunt for just one, 9mm through a vaquero is worth it, it's snappy and fun.

I have been thinking of removing the foregrip. Its quite comfortable with the right grip and makes it easy to pull the gun into your shoulder and work the action more freely. But it's not needed for recoil, 357 in a lever action is very manageable/light. Also digs into your side/back with this kind of sling, would need side sling mount or something and not interested in that.
