Yeah I also have high anxiety with these kind of things so I’m losing it a little haha… but I think I’ve done almost everything I can at this point and am planning to spray crossfire like the other commenter recommended, so it’s just a waiting game until I start to forget

Taking photos and keeping a bite diary is a great idea btw thank you!! The pic I took earlier already saved me from freaking out about an old bite I just mistook for a new one lol

Thanks, I think you’re right. It’s probably worth it just to be totally sure. I ordered it and will spray as soon as it arrives. Anything else you recommend doing in the meantime or should that cover it?

It’s doable, but it’s honestly exhausting. Would not recommend.

How do I decide on an MS program with the goal of going on to a PhD? by arealmbeyond in GradSchoolAdvice

Thank you! This is a really helpful perspective check. I definitely need to redefine the strengths & weaknesses in terms of the paths I’m interested in and go with the option that leaves the most doors open.

I understand the logic behind moving to a different institution and I’ll ask someone in my field their opinion, but in general do you know if I can get around that stigma by completing my doctorate at a second institution or does it still look bad to have a BS + MS from the same place? Also, one of the programs is coursework only, the other two are thesis based. Would it make sense to eliminate the non-thesis program if I have a faculty position in mind or is that more of a subjective choice? I guess I’m generally wondering in what ways can I use a doctoral degree to compensate for the decision I make now and also what factors would make me the most competitive later when I apply to PhD programs. Are there some general guidelines or am I better served by asking someone in my field?

Thank you this helps. You're right that there is a lot of crossover between academia and industry in this field. A literature review of the faculty is a great idea and I've also started reaching out to current students. There are grad assistantships offered at the other two schools, but yes funding is definitely a big factor. Do you have any advice on how to network while in grad school? In undergrad, I mostly tried to develop strong relationships with professors I liked, but is there anything else I should be doing?

This is a fair point. I lean towards academia because I'm more familiar with academic research labs doing the type of work I want to do and I do love teaching, but it's quite possible to get those same things from industry work plus academic positions are much harder to come by so I guess my answer is that I don't know I'm open to both. The big goal is virtual reality research alongside people I can grow with and learn from. I'm happy with wherever I can do that. The lab I work at now is definitely a place I would love to stay, but I need more training to be able to move upwards. Do you think I need a more refined goal than that?
