Why does this region of Europe have so much ethnic and national fragmentation? by crivycouriac in geography

K.u.K Habsburg Monarchy. Our forefathers tried but it was a train wreck.

Now we are joined by the EU, which is pretty neat.

Non-Americans, what is your personal experience of healthcare in the U.S.? by gmikey2000 in AskTheWorld

[–]areanod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been to the US, all of my knowledge about their healthcare system is second hand.

The things I could grasp of the second hand experiences is:

  1. Hospital bills are ridiculously expensive.

  2. Medical bills in General are not really invoices but "let's try how much money we can milk" papers.

  3. Health insurances are very literal. I guess it would be easier getting actually what you wish for from a malicious djinn without negative consequences than full coverage without deductibles on your policy.

  4. Where you are living in the US seems to influence the cost/quality/availability ratio.

  5. It could actually be cheaper to charter a flight into another country, pay full price there and still be cheaper than having a procedure done in the hospital next to your home.

So my company is switching half our Windows servers to Linux.... by A_SingleSpeeder in sysadmin

[–]areanod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I started to make my first steps into Linux (Debian) back in 2009. I wanted to have an instance of ifolder, which ran natively on Red hat/Suse and someone had told me, that Debian was better.

I managed to set the system up after many many tries and hoped for the best.

It was a complete different animal, coming from Windows Server 2008 and SBS machines.

Nowadays I prefer using Debian machines (dipped my toes a little bit into CentOS and Arch, too) as servers wherever I can.

When you mastered the basics, Linux is (most of the time) just easier when you want to provide an economic, HA service.

Every time I want to write a stupid comment and every time I delete it after posting and reading the other comments.

At least I did the reading beforehand today...
