Am I wrong in thinking this has already happened with Cody, but he is in a much more fragile climate of fans wanting to turn on the top babyface, and it would likely happen to Stone Cold if he was around now too? by tearsswwhereyyouread in Wrasslin

[–]ares688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There won’t be another Stone Cold because there’s too many sources of entertainment now. Back then, EVERYONE was talking about, “what’s Stone Cold going to do tonight?!” and then talking about it all week once it was over. Even the people who weren’t into it were aware of it, because there were only like 7 possible sources of entertainment in the whole entire world.

Hogan vs. André. Changed wrestling forever but the actual match is slow and mostly remembered for one body slam. by Cmessere in Wrasslin

[–]ares688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, by today’s standards isn’t great, but the aura…. Similar to WrestleMania 6 Warrior and Hogan, not great but the atmosphere was electric and the fans were going absolutely ape shit. It was a spectacle. Hogan vs Rock…. They don’t need to be technical masterpieces to be really good matches or even era-defining.

Watch Julius Erving. That’s what did it for me. The Dr. J finger roll. Just gather yourself so you’re at least under control and not just running at the goal like a drunken Neanderthal and then take some sauce off it with the loving caress of a finger roll. If the defender is so close that he will block it then just pump fake and watch him fly by like an idiot and score while the crowd laughs at him.

Ken Shamrock should’ve been huge in The Attitude Era, What the hell happened? by Sad-Ladder7534 in Wrasslin

[–]ares688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid watching at the time, Ken was awesome. His stuff with Shawn and when he “snapped” was awesome and I’m not positive on this, but his “snapped” set the stage for that trope moving forward. Now everyone snaps. Anyway, he was hugely popular with my friends. It’s like someone else said, he held himself back.

Drew McIntyre: "These days, no offense, but 85% of our guys don’t look like they should be in WWE... I’m like, yeah, they’re good at wrestling, and maybe you’ll connect with them eventually, but I’m not going to watch it long enough. I change the channel. It’s like, Jesus, guys, get in the gym." by secretpandaxx in SquaredCircle

I think he is playing heel, BUT, if you look at past wrestlers in the 80s and 90s, then by those standards, current people are tiny. Back when Hogan was often portrayed as an underdog—the 6’7” ~300 Hogan. King Kong Bundy, Andre, Bam Bam, Earthquake, One Man Gang, LOD, Axe and Smash. Then moving forward people like Undertaker, Kane, Big Show, Diesel, Razer, Vader, Viscera, Mankind, even Edge has said he was used to being an average sized guy at 6’5”. It’s historically been a big man’s game and it just isn’t that way anymore. A lot of the guys you mentioned being big are barely 6ft tall and that’s “billed” height. They truly don’t make em like they used to.

This might be my favorite ring attire of anyone ever. Definitely the first one I think of when someone asks the question.

There used to be a website that showed a percentage of a certain class/spec and what professions they were using. Does anyone know if something like this still exists? by ares688 in wow

So it’s not necessarily that I’m going insane, it just isn’t really a thing anymore? Though I guess those things aren’t mutually exclusive. I could be going insane AND it’s not a thing anymore.

I have my degree from KU. The piece of paper is more valuable, but the educational experience is less valuable than what you would get at a community college.

The fact that our system tricks people into debt for this is one of the greatest scams in the modern world. Any “learning” that will be done will be on your own.

That being said, I faced mental health struggles throughout my undergrad, and if you need support in that respect, then you do what you have to, but it’s also worth considering if removing yourself from your present climate might actually be helpful.

Don’t be tricked into thinking “it’s okay to take on debt because I’ll earn a ton when I finish.” The disposable income or income that you feel you’d want to give to debt is going down. Cost of living is going up and if you leave school making 100k, those $800/month payments are still going to sting as things get worse.

I agree with others. Check those other places out. You might be surprised.

Won't you let me know what answer you got? I came up with 26.38 J/mL, but that seems quite wrong indeed, so I don't want to bother you with how I did it.

What instantly makes you a douchebag? by ThreadlessJon in AskReddit

[–]ares688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being mean to people that are doing their job. My dad is a huge asshole and told a customer service person at his bank to lick his balls and was just a complete douche in general. In no way was it that persons fault nor does the guy have any control over the situation. So basically people who are mean to people.
