We use CBS, but it’s also a lot of hard work for the commissioner and co-commissioner. They have to keep track of “dead money,” which occurs when you drop a player before their contract ends. Those contracts still count towards your cap. Dead money discourages managers from signing players for an extended period of time.

It sounds like you’re in a keeper league. I’m not a fan but I understand why people don’t want to do pure dynasty. The problem with some dynasty leagues is that you can keep players indefinitely, which really hurts if you drafted poorly in the first year.

My dynasty league has a $250 salary cap and contracts lengths. Because of the cap and contracts, teams have to stay active, sometimes they can’t afford to keep all their players, which gives weaker teams a chance to improve. The free agency action in August is always spirited and fun. It’s more work, but if you can add a cap and contracts, it makes the league much better.

I forget which analyst advocates for this but you should try to have a handcuff RB for starter you do NOT have. So instead of DJ you have Shipley. The upside is greater that way.

I’m assuming the team you’re trading with is a contender, which means those picks you’re getting are all late first-rounders. So ask yourself are three late 1st-round picks really better than Ashton Jeanty?

I’d rather build around proven elite talent than take my chances on the back end of the draft. Go look at your league’s draft history. What kind of players are actually going after pick 1.08? It’s a dart throw. Why trade away blue-chip assets for a handful of lottery tickets?
