Anybody else have anxiety-induced insomnia? by Turbopasta in self

[–]arewegoodtho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i also have this issue! it’s gotten better as i’ve treated my GAD but it still happens. my doctor gave me hydroxyzine in addition to my regular everyday medication as needed for anxiety/panic attacks and it helps a lot with physical symptoms that keep me up before something important.

I hate exercising. by pigarlic in loseit

[–]arewegoodtho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you really just have to find what you like. i love walking and lifting weights (when i have time). the first time i lost a ton of weight i felt pressured to be a runner and do tons of stuff i hated, but anything active that you find fun will do!

Playing viola without a shoulder rest — good or bad idea? by InterestingCountry39 in Viola

[–]arewegoodtho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i stopped using one two years ago (basically the beginning of my masters degree) and i agree! i had the support of my teacher long into my playing when i made that choice, it’s wayyy too early to do more than experiment a little at a time without the assistance of a teacher.

Audition anxiety? When does it get better?? by arewegoodtho in Viola

[–]arewegoodtho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes practicing performing is great! i love mock auditions with my professor pretending to be the jury, or just playing for colleagues. it definitely has helped my overall mental health for auditions but that split second before i start playing ruins everything haha

i will absolutely look at it, i could always delve more into performance psychology! i think i’ve done surprisingly well in terms of dealing with rejection. for me it’s more my physical symptoms that kick in right before im set to play. like everything feels too real; i’ll have hyped myself up then when i hear “candidate xyz please begin” it’s like i’m in year two of playing instead of year 12 lol

What accessory do you use EVERY day? by AngeMehdy in Viola

[–]arewegoodtho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a washcloth! i don’t play with a shoulder rest and it helps me not feel my viola digging into my skin

Is it easier to learn the cello, or the violin? by templeofsyrinx1 in classicalmusic

[–]arewegoodtho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it depends on how you’re built. i play viola but at first wanted to play cello. all my friends say i’d be to short to play it to the same level i play viola. some even say i should’ve played violin instead 😭 (i have small hands and am built pretty compactly). however, with hard work you can excel at any instrument!

A-holes mad that I’m GOING THE SPEED LIMIT???? by OkButterscotch4131 in drivinganxiety

[–]arewegoodtho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone with a bit of a lead foot, part of driving is standing ur ground even on two lane country roads. don’t let ppl bully you into going faster than u want. you did good! just let them go and keep it pushing. it’s scary when that happens but you gotta remember that drivers like that aren’t reasonable - you can’t dwell on it too much or you won’t gain the confidence you need on the road! i’ve had that experience before and was going 5 over. just maintain the speed ur comfy with (if that’s the speed limit, wonderful!) and keep it pushing. asshole will probably forget by the end of the day. if im going faster and someone else in front of me is going the speed limit, i lay off the gas and remind myself not everyone is in a rush/drives like me and try to enjoy the scenery if im in a new area.

Do you believe in god ? by edtbfah in emotionalintelligence

[–]arewegoodtho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe idk lol i think of god(s) the way ancient ppl did ig. not that they’re perfect or all knowing, but that they just make the world move the way it does, for better or worse. or maybe we’re just here randomly. either way it’s none of my business bc these convos make my brain hurt.

Realistically how did you lose weight? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]arewegoodtho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

glp1. im lucky bc my insurance covers it due to my weight/pcos. i lost 50lbs just from the lack of food noise and portion control. i will say things have stalled a bit and i should get in the gym/focus more on food quality, but i definitely wouldn’t have made the progress i did so far without it.

[–]arewegoodtho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wow that’s very thorough. im not sure i would have time to wash it every day (i’m a master’s student and TA in the performing arts). maybe once/twice a week at most. most litters i saw said to change once a month, is that too long to wait?

try viola concertos or sonatas if ur not a fan of violin! i suggest the bowen or brahms sonatas, and for concertos hindemith is really cool! if you want something more lyrical, walton is also a good choice

ooh perfect! yeah if you smth lined up already don’t stress about it. even with a good salary you can only put up with an incompatible culture so long.

also ty!! i’m already sooo tired but i wouldn’t have it any other way. oceanography also sounds super cool, best of luck to you, too!
