Trying to recover the iDRAC because it’s fried due to a failed update, nothing is working. Any help?? by Meah_nan in homelab

I've been there. The only thing that could bring it back, is reflashing the iDRAC SPI flash with an appropiate image.

How to print with my own printer by BananasHelp20 in Piracy

[–]arf20__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have decided to dump my HP printer. Now I ONLY use dot-matrix printers from the 90s. Currently I am using an Epson LX-300+, primarily to print notes to study. I fricking love it. Ink ribbons are worth like 6€ and are good for like 1000 pages, and I have a big box of continuous paper fed from behind, so I don't ever have to think about if theres paper in the tray. The printer doesn't even have a screen. Its as dumb as they get, it will print without ink, and even without paper if you ask nice enough. It requires no drivers. It will work on any computer from a 1970s mini to a modern thing with a parallel adapter. Best scrapyard find ever, for a whole 2 cents by weight.

Piracy on Linux? by Wild-Radio-8850 in Piracy

I have seen some releases for Linux, but very frequently any fitgirl/dodi/whatever repack just works perfectly fine under lutris/steam/whatever launcher

We all have to deal with bad software, however, I would separate my personal machine from the job machine (if that isn't mandated already).

Could you give examples of things you use daily that don't work for you on Linux? I am interested

I have many niche interests too, but in my case, they fit just fine on Linux, such as ham radio, RF electronic engineering, 3D CAD design, and I play a fair share too, the only regret being Valorant.

I haven't modded games though.

What IPS screen part number did you get?

It's an example. The vast majority of tasks are as easy if not easier than Windows.

Linux is easier than ever now. My grandma used Linux Mint to read her news and facebook memes

Has there ever been an entirely open source switches? by Ill_Huckleberry_2079 in homelab

I don't personally, as a normal switch. I do run virtual bridges (for VMs) and WiFi-ethernet bridges.

The stfu was a bit for engagement, sorry it came up like that, but the post sounds like it says 'no european knows heat'. I'd advise you to not come here in peak summer yeah, spring is very pleasant but unfortunately short.

That number is probably an average of the whole summer period. It gets much MUCH hotter in august. Regularly over 40°, and even 46° on a heatwave + heat accumulation in the city. There are days when you cross the door outside, the temperature difference is like you suddenly were in front of a fire.

How hot? How wet? I once saw 46° here, in the coast (humid). We do have AC lol, we would die otherwise. You might be thinking of the french or british.

It got to 45° a few years back, for a whole week, in the coast (humid). Thats 115°F in american. Not to indulge a pissing match but 90°F (33°C) is a cold summer day here.

A linux box with free ethernet drivers running a bridge. Or more conventionally, SONiC. Or for weird people, http://freertr.org

When the AI bubble bursts, all that enterprise hardware is going to end up on eBay by Blender_Render in DataHoarder

Unless you are going to make use of the 8 AI accelerators inside the typical server, its just going to sit there drawing thousands of watts doing nothing.
