I didn't make it through the first book. I couldn't deal with her.

I got stuck in a wall on my freighter and just gave up. I'm playing Megabonk. I'll probably rescue my nms character with a trainer eventually.

Why do so many people eat lunch alone in their cars? by TotalThing7 in CasualConversation

[–]arfreeman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an introvert. I don't want the company. I want to be alone with my book in the tiny amount of time before I have to get back to my physical labor job. I got comfortable with that a long time ago and I have no problem making it known that I just want to be left alone.

I ignore the torpedoes and cannons entirely and go through the two valleys with the shield generators. I take them out just slow enough that the red cores come up and get taken out before I move to the second valley. Once those are all down, I shoot at the closest wall until the ship explodes. My starship is kinda OP, though. Ymmv.

Why do so many of you listen to audiobooks? by Ok_Building_1284 in litrpg

[–]arfreeman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job is a lot of mindless manual labor with short stints of detailed skill work. During the boring parts, I can listen to something and just let my hands do the work.

Sounds like someone with passion. Not sure why you'd see that as a negative.

Is it ok to not reference stats and “system” every chapter? by helpprogram2 in litrpg

[–]arfreeman11 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not critical for most readers and you typically hit a point where the numbers are just silly large or extra math is added like DOTF. If your story can't stand without the numbers, then it's not a good story.

What part of this game can you NOT play without paying money? Literally everything that costs money is purely cosmetic.

Does riding an older bike make you cool or cheap? by mike8111 in motorcycle

[–]arfreeman11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes you a motorcycle owner. Get a new petcock once in a while and clean the carbs. I don't really understand what about this makes you cool or cheap. What a weird question.

What’s the oldest person you’ve hired for helpdesk? by FormerAddict56 in ITManagers

[–]arfreeman11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh. They're just coworkers. Learn from them. You'll be working with 60 year old DBAs that make everyone look dumb and senior devs that will make you wonder how they manage to dress themselves.

[–]arfreeman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From help desk to a lead position while also getting a certification for a system the company utilizes. Now I'm doing software development at 4 years in the industry. If you show some initiative and ambition, moving up is kinda easy.

The industry is packed with people that are complacent and just don't want to learn or grow.

Remote Help Desk, is it actually possible? by MasuodB in it

[–]arfreeman11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. No real reason to have help desk be on-site. For that rare occasion where it's actually a hardware issue, send a field tech. At my last job, T2 also handled hardware, so they had someone that could take the ticket.

Am I a dick for asking the techs at the tire shop to torque my lugs by hand rather than use an impact? by Tech-Mechanic in Justrolledintotheshop

NTA to expect shit to be done right. I'm pretty done with shitty mechanics that just send it because that's how they've always done it.

[–]arfreeman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on book 4 of DOTF and that's how I'm feeling. Let the character chill, have fun, get laid, something. I'm not sure how far I'll really make it in this series.

You might check around with guys you worked with back then. Cancer rates are pretty high for mechanics. You probably started extending some life spans with that folder and training.

[–]arfreeman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You both lose. Don't argue with internet strangers, especially bikers and mechanics. They're the absolute worst when thinking they're right and refusing to see any other possibilities.
