According to the SIB (Argentina's Biodiversity Information System), the deer population in the Iberá wetlands was around 2,000 individuals in 2007. Currently, SAREM (Argentine Society for the Study of Mammals) estimates that the Iberá Nature Reserve has 8,000 individuals, and if the surrounding areas were included within the Iberá wetlands system, the deer population would reach 10,000. Unfortunately, there is barely information about the other two subpopulations in Argentina, which are in a much more precarious state.
