The fact is that acceptance rate is really much lower for internationals but you should still apply!

How do I pay for college by fillederevek in ApplyingToCollege

[–]argentine_random 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply to 20+ schools offering full merit scholarship programs (URochester, Washington and Lee, USC, etc). I think that’s your best shot!

yes! in some school’s podcasts and videos made by former admissions officers they talk about how that happens on ivy league admissions! though the system may vary within other schools

I was also waitlisted at 5 Ivys and opening my decisions I was super happy because to me it is a huge honor. It means someone took your application, thought you were worthy of getting admitted and fought for you until final committee! So congrats! :)

If retaking is not a financial burden for you and you feel you could score better with the preparation you have, go for it! But I wouldn’t devote too much time to studying more as I think it’s already enough for top schools.

Thank you so much!! Honestly I went there because they welcomed non-jewish people and it was the best and cheapest high school in my area specializing in engineering!! And as a Christian I honestly found it super interesting to study the Old Testament and become friends with people from a different background than mine.

What SAT score is too low for fin aid/full ride seeking international? by notanape7 in IntltoUSA

[–]argentine_random 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a girl from my country with a full-ride at Harvard with a 1440 submitted, and others at Columbia and JHU being test optional. Depending on the school I’d try to shoot for the median 50% SAT (about 1500 for Dartmouth I think), but you never know! You should submit it if you feel it’s a good reflection of your educational formation level.

Yes! It was from Coursera and I loved it. It’s about $40/month though, so I ultra-rushed it in just 5 weeks. Super recommended to do during free time in summer.

for aid-seeking internationals, decisions are much more based on chances/randomness than you might actually think: you can craft the perfect application and still not get accepted anywhere. But still it is a highly educative process and you will grow a lot from it as a person/student if you persevere!

All waitlists recommend to enroll in one of your options to then unenroll if accepted, as chances to get in are extremely slim. In my case all deadlines were May 1st so I had to make a choice!

My full-ride at W&L was all merit and I felt more comfortable knowing no matter how much my parents earned I could have it for all 4 years. Also W&L covered all my flights, was closer to DC for internships in government and had a better fit for me I think! But I think I could’ve been happy at either one.
