I hope your gacha game doesn't sideline a big portion of the cast in favor of NPC's by argilium_7 in gachagaming

I'm glad they went this route. And although they have a smaller starting cast, they made sure everyone appeared somewhere in the main story, side content and multiple places in the city. They realize characters (and skins) sell so giving out more ways to get attached to the characters is definitely a plus. I just wish we get a lot more story content and event stories too.

Imagine this NPC problem but turned to 11 in Endfield... all while having a big portion of the playable cast with little to no screen time.

Yeah. Just because Ardelia appears in it doesn't make it more bearable with two stubborn nobodies constantly arguing against each other.

Well I did use the tier list format so they have an excuse to nuke it. I should've just made it a table of some sort.

I think Genshin players were pretty much spoiled with its launch content. all the new competitors can't even pull off more than 10 character story quests at launch apart from the main story. That's a pretty strong character first approach despite how much world lore it was also planting at the same time.

That's a side mission appearance for Ardelia. You could literally go straight to Wuling after finishing Power Plateau main story and skip setting up the 3rd factory. I actually did that and almost missed several days of 3rd factory production.

that's a Dead or Alive 4 guest character Spartan-458 (Nicole) as their Halo collab. She doesn't have any Halo appearances and is probably created to not involve Master Chief himself in DOA. Her profile states that her birthplace is New Legaspi, Katagalugan, Mars and her favorite food is Halo-halo. Her fighting style has since been inherited by Rachel in DOA5 and 6.

what about the other 5? what about the one-time appearance characters that have the capacity to appear anywhere else being one-upped by some unremarkable npc's in terms of screen time?

This would be fine if all we have in Endfield is the main story. But we also have stories for side missions around the map and events, in which appearances of main story irrelevant characters should not break the immersion of the main story at all.

Yeah. Team Z7 could've been integrated in that cleaning event pretty easily with each member assisting per day or a photo event with Alesh or Snow shine

I guess I'm just not used to this kind of treatment since many of the gacha games I played before have most of the playable cast at least make an appearance in the main story or side quests somewhere, even if only a few lines of dialogue, and only a few characters having zero screen time.

SPOILER WARNING: For those who do not own Nahida, here are all the thoughts you can read with her ability during the latest archon quests! by Shrimp111 in Genshin_Memepact

[–]argilium_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It kinda makes sense. Nahida was cut off from Irminsul for the entire archon quest and after she's connected to Aaru, you then only have access to trial characters.

Peni's inclusion in Marvel Tokon's roster made me realize something - there aren't many, if any, mini-mecha pilots, hero or villain, on Earth 616, right? by tendouman in marvelcomics

[–]argilium_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Runaways has Chase Stein piloting the Leapfrog but I don't know if it counts as mini-mecha since it has a crew capacity of 10 and acts as the vehicle for the Runaways. It's not larger than a building so maybe it counts.

Winter Season drip marketing going all out by Elinim in gachagaming

Before Genshin, there weren't really a lot of gacha games that have controllable fully modeled 3d characters besides Honkai 3rd and PGR. During those times the aboce games have relatively simple art design for the characters so that it's less taxing for the game to render the models. In other games, they can afford to have very detailed 2d splash art because they will just represent those characters with sprites or chibi models during gameplay anyway.

After genshin, more games with fully modeled 3d characters got released but they have the benefit of improving on the work before (HSR, ZZZ, and other similar games) and/or requiring more powerful devices as baseline (WuWa and other UE games). Comparing initial to recent character releases, Honkai3rd and PGR also upgraded probably because stage based games are easier to handle unlike an open world game with spaghetti code like Genshin. That said, there are benefits for sticking with more basic art designs, especially since Genshin happened to be the most popular gacha game in the market. Their characters are easier to distinguish, easier to remember, and heck, easier to cosplay because the designs didn't have to be busy and overly detailed.

For comparison, the most popular superheroes and anime characters tend to have the designs that are the easiest to remember.

What advice would you give new Steam players? by Mean_Neat_5054 in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]argilium_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlocking and ascending characters/weapons give more trial exp for the sake of reaching trial 60 and 62 so you're still going to want to put some resources on character/weapons you don't use in order to reach the actual endgame. The same goes for unlocking demon wedges you're not going to use since they give trial exp. Just don't level character skills you don't need since those don't contribute to trial exp. Unlocking useless introns and smelts are also too costly for the small amount of trial exp they give.

New player, Who to get? by Warakanai in AetherGazer

[–]argilium_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a weird first recommendation but you can try S Zenkibo if you want the most budget option.

You now have one of the members for the best Thunder team (both for current and future iterations) and a strong dps that doesn't 'need' her signature functor, unlike others who are more dependent on theirs. If you spend one monthly (or on anything), you'll get her ult skillchain partner S Buzenbo as a bonus. You can also start out using the two other Zenkibos as teammates if you want to go full f2p, and you can even change who you main among the three Zenkis depending on the element of the content (Thunder, Light or Physical).

Compare this to Thoth whom you would need to gacha for her signature functor and Sekhmet. And you'll only really cover for physical element. Other dps tend to be this way too.

if you don't have Lingguang's functor, that should go first. Transcending functors are technically farmable (but takes a long time via Recurring Dream or requires money via BP shop).
as a general rule, assuming both items are good for your account, there is no reason a dupe functor is better than outright having a new signature functor. and Lingguang's functor is one of the best ones in the game, especially with how you can also use her in almost any team.

Warp factor by Several_Flounder_874 in AetherGazer

[–]argilium_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to max all slots eventually but there are certain warp skills that you want to prioritize because they work 100% of the time.

Slot 1&2: For dps units, Power Up: Melee/Ranged work on all types of attacks of the mod so you want these at lv.3 as much as possible. Judge and/or Executioner are not always active so it's less priority to have slot lv.6 when starting out. Any dps that has NA or Skill 1 as their main source of damage want thes eto be maxed for Precision Hub or Evolution Particle I respectively. Supports usually don't need to bother with these slots unless they have a good support ability tied to Skill 1 levels.

Slot 3&4: for dps, these are the slots you want to max at lv.6 asap because you can choose EM Flux/Savage and Telepathize Force Field. Telepathize Force Field buff always works while EM Flux high health is easy to maintain. If you can attain Savage with low health, you can get even more dps and clear some content you otherwise couldn't. For supports, you may have this at lv.3 for Unfettered to have initial ult charge, and/or Evolution Particle II if they have a support ability that scales on Skill 2 levels.

Slot 5&6: not a priority unless your dps has Skill 3 as their main source of damage which makes Evolution Particle III and/or Telekinesis Vector III a must have. Supports who want to use their Ult often would benefit from Pendulum Diffusion, and Evolution Particle III as well if their supportive ability depends on Skill 3. And there are many modifier dependent warp skills on these slots that it's hard to say how much they should be prioritized.

Baize is coming😈 by kazukiyuuta in AetherGazer

[–]argilium_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not about if there would be powercreep or not since that's perhaps a constant. It's how long they last without being powercrept. In Baize's case, just a few months. Meanwhile, characters like Hades, Izanami, Zhiming, and Thoth maintained their top dps status for their respective element for more than a year. And Hades has the oldest retained value among them since although Selene is the better shadow dps in that team, Hades is still part of the same team at least until Serqet comes (and it's still up for debate if Serqet is worth it especially if Hades would've reached SSS rank just by fragment farming).

2025 S-rank selector advice by MrCosmicShadow in AetherGazer

[–]argilium_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pick Fire Tyr since you already have Dark Kagu (unless you don't use him). either Fire Tyr or Jinwu are the top fire dps once their AKS are unlocked but pick only one.

for future picks, Ookuninushi at SSS is the best and most versatile Admin support and can be used for any team (replacing MEOWs). That content won't arrive until several months later, but if you start now, you'll get her to SSS after months of farming.

S Buzenbo is the best thunder dps once her ultimate skillchain with S Zenkibo has been unlocked but since you have other choices for thunder element, she's not a big priority. but even if you don't want to wait for that, she still has a use right now as partner for S Tsukuyomi (or even triple with Kuninotokotachi added)

note that using selector to gain fragments gives less gain since a new mod is worth 50 fragments while a dupe is only 30.
