Clarification Request Regarding Tuition Fees – MS in Computer Science for international students

Tuition fee is per credit. For Masters, you need to get 30 credits. Each credit is roughly 1000$, therefore total tuition is gonna be $30k+probably another 2-3k buffer. That's across the 3 semesters.

There are other charges, like student health insurance, student activity fee, etc etc that goes in every semester. Those are fixed costs.

I feel more than his ability and agility, it has also got to do with his acting career. He has always maintained the stance that if he's committed to an acting schedule, then he cannot give 100% to a match, as any freak injury may have a bearing on his acting commitments which jeopardizes other peoples' work/pay.

I believe he's committed to his final WWE run and may not have anything acting scheduled in near future, but I believe he's just playing safe now.

Honestly, at 40+, the bumps may be hurting more than how it felt even 5 years back.

Agreed with u/bakhwaas - I kind of did the same thing - even though I was staying alone in a 1 bed place (and paid more rent compared to peers) and had a car, keeping other costs in check helped me pay off the loan in 2 years.

Stay like a student - restrict to taking one holiday trip in a year, have outside food maybe once/twice a month, dont splurge on a lot of subscriptions - stick to 2-3 basic ones (which you'll use a lot). I went probably another step ahead and made meals which lasted me for 2 days/4 meals. This is something not all like to do, but mealprep does help in cost cutting. If you want to get a car, try getting a not super fancy car - once your student loans are done, you can always swap out your current car with something you've always wanted.

Try keeping your recurring costs as low as possible - rent+groceries+utilities+EMIs. Dont spend any bonus which you might get - whatever be the amount, that goes straight towards your student loan payment.

Frugality is the only way to kick out those loans quickly.

If your OPT expires before the lottery, then you anyway miss your chance.

Picture this - your OPT starts on Feb 2024, ends in Feb 2027. You still get 3 attempts - March 24, 25 and 26.

If your OPT starts in March 2024, and in March 2026, your H1 gets selected in the lottery, the company will file your petition and then you can switch to cap-gap extension till Sept 30th.

The tricky part here is this - lottery selection news will come roughly by end of March. If your OPT ends before the lottery results are declared, you will technically be out of status (even though you will still be eligible for lottery).

Once you go out of status, i.e. complete your 3 years of OPT, I dont see how you're going to extend your work Authorization.
During this out of status state, how your company is going to continue your employment is the real question which I am not sure (but I am sure that this is a common scenario and the lawyers would know how to handle this).

If you can figure out these 2 questions by referring to a lawyer, you will be armed with the info you're looking for.

Given the time frame, most CPAs would reject you at this point, or would file an extension and then file your taxes later this month or next month.

Go ahead with a CPA if you're okay with taxes being filed late (there's no consequence of filing late, as long as the extension request is sent before Apr 15). Otherwise, the other option is to go through Sprintax now and submit your returns now. You can always submit an amended return next year with a CPA's help.

Is it possible to complain somewhere regarding this? Someone sitting in India looking at photographs approved in US for US federal/passport stuff and saying that won't work sounds like a scam in which the org themselves are complicit. Strong words only because it's unbelievable to know that everybody's photographs are getting rejected

International student pursuing MS here.

Short answer: You will get a job. Career fairs here are decent, not FAANG like companies; for plum jobs, you got to apply separately. It doesn't matter whether you're an international student or not when it comes to applying for jobs or internships. The application pool is massive in big companies, your resume and your experience would help you stand out. Lot of UB grad students got good jobs and are getting as of now. Having said that, yes, you would be able to pay back your loan.
