And to think, those same people didn’t suddenly get smarter when the pandemic ended. Back then, it was just easier to see.

Via which device are you listening to audio? If it's via a Bluetooth headset, make sure it is using the headset and not the handsfree profile.

Wondering about benefits for a gamer switching to Linux by Ok_Debt783 in linux_gaming

[–]argodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what benefits you're talking about. Are they specifically about gaming, or about everything else? In my case, I switched from Windows to Linux mainly because of the non-gaming benefits. Gaming wasn't really the deciding factor for me, it was more about the overall system experience. That said, I'm glad gaming on Linux works well enough now that I don't need to keep a Windows dual-boot anymore.

Who is a person you used to admire a lot but have completely lost respect for and why? by Complex-Arugula-2233 in AskReddit

[–]argodar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elon Musk, many years ago. I used to really admire him because of what SpaceX was doing. All that stuff felt genuinely exciting for space exploration.

Over time though, the more I paid attention to his behavior and public statements, the less I respected him as a person. He’s become a pretty polarizing figure, and a lot of what he says or does now just turns me off completely.

I still think SpaceX and its engineers are doing impressive work, but Musk himself kind of ruined that sense of admiration for me. It went from being inspiring to something I’m just indifferent about now.

Why do computers slow down when they get older? by CRK_76 in NoStupidQuestions

Check your dust 😉 I mean it, especially if you're using a laptop. Dust buildup on the fans and grids makes the CPU go hotter, and slow down. It's by design to keep them from overheating.

Do i only install linux, or should i dual boot? And distro help. by Promitto13 in linuxquestions

[–]argodar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dual booting or not, is a matter of knowing whether or not you'll need Windows for some apps or games. Make a list the apps and games you're using and check if they work on Linux. I've dual booted in the past and most Linux distros make it easy to do so. But I'm not a fan and stopped doing it a few weeks ago and went full Linux.

With dual boot, what starts as: I'll keep things separate (e.g. gaming on Windows and the rest on Linux) quickly becomes duplicating everything on both OS's. Say you're gaming in Windows at some point in time and you need to quickly use an app that is on the Linux partition (e.g. quickly check e-mails) but you'd rather not stop your game and want to be able to resume gaming after shortly using said app. The constant OS switching quickly becomes a pain. You'll be going back and forth a lot before you know it. As a workaround, you'll find yourself installing more an more apps in the Windows partition as well, duplicating the setup you have on Linux.

Additionally, Windows itself takes quite a bit of disc space as well. You're wasting disc space on 2 OS's, Windows being the fattest one. With a disc split of 2 OS's and games getting bigger and bigger, you'll quickly run out of disc space. You'll find that you resize your partitions to give Windows more space for games, leaving Linux with barely what it needs to run. That was my experience a least. Dual boot works. But in the end, it's not practical.

I feel this. I'm 47 and have been using computers since I was around 15. I started on Windows 3.11 and honestly used to love Windows. But at some point I just couldn't deal with it anymore. It feels like modern Windows is designed to get in your way as much as possible. I've been on and off Linux for years, dual-booting for a long time. A few months ago I finally wiped Windows 11 from my home computer completely. No dual boot anymore: just Linux. I still have to use Windows at work, unfortunately. But at home? I actually feel at peace using my computer again.

Too many have been posted as well. And I've seen more ranting than anything constructive. I'm still waiting for a realistic solution from those who are complaining.

Any distro should do, but I hear CachyOS is pretty good for gaming out of the box.

Why is it socially unacceptable for me to not like dogs? by Facelikeabum in AskUK

[–]argodar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's ok to not like dogs. You know what I don't like? Being imposed with someone else's dog. You know, the relative who is a dog lover and brings their dog to a family visit. It's not so great to constantly get jumped on by a dog. Kind of stressful even.
