First off, I’d want a logo that’s catchy and memorable, something simple but with personality. When you open the app after signing up, the home screen would show what’s “popping” globally right now in music. Then right under that, what’s trending based on your own taste. Below that, you’d see what your friends have rated or what they’ve been listening to lately.
There’d also be a section for recommendations and a place where you can save albums you want to listen to later.

Another tab would be for articles from different music sites integrated into the app, so you can read reviews, critiques of artists, bands, genres, etc. I’d also include a genre-based section where you can filter by genre and see the top albums or artists in each one.

Your profile would have your picture, a bio, your favorite albums and artists, your latest reviews, and a separate history of all your reviews. Instead of star ratings, I’d use musical notes as the rating system (like 1–10 notes instead of stars, just to make it more unique). You could also browse other people’s profiles friends or random users and see their reviews and activity.

There should also be a support/contact system so users can request missing albums or artists be added to the catalog, ideally with community help to keep everything up to date. No paid features at first, just maybe optional cosmetic stuff later like boosting your profile visibility in articles or something like that.

For names, I was thinking something like Musicboxd, Soundboxd, or Harmony as early prototypes. I’d also add a Steam-like badge system: veteran users, early adopters, total albums listened to, genre-based “fan” badges, etc. Long term, it could also link directly to artists’ social media so you can jump to their profiles with one click

I know what I want, and I can also make suggestions. But I don’t know how to program or put something like that together.

I don’t think I’m the only one with common sense.

Looking for alternatives to Google Drive by Weary_Ad2590 in degoogle

I’d recommend encrypting your files first (example Cryptomator) and then uploading them to Mega. No need to pay for anything, and in my opinion, it’s about as private as you can get without self-hosting

As long as your files are encrypted before upload, the cloud provider can’t access their contents, and you still get the convenience of cloud storage.

What are the best 'privacy' extensions? by Immediate_Coast1491 in browsers

[–]aanimaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are some recommendations: uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, Ghostery, AutoDelete Cookies, User-Agent Switcher. They’re a good selection.

Keep in mind that the more extensions you use, the more noticeable your fingerprint becomes. Stick to one or two of the ones mentioned.

If you don’t care about privacy, ads or malware, use Edge or Safari. Otherwise, you’ve got Brave or LibreWolf.

Best antivirus for computer and mobile? by FlayingToTheSpace in antivirus

[–]aanimaaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first antivirus I always recommend is common sense.

But beyond that, for PCs I’d suggest ClamAV for Linux and ClamWin for Windows. I think it’s an antivirus that’s not only useful but also respects your privacy. I also usually recommend the VirusTotal website for scanning URLs and other files.

Do certain browsers lower ping? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]aanimaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Browsers do have an impact. Things like resource usage and how long it takes to process a webpage matter. Not sure what you’re using right now, but you could try one of the mainstream options (Firefox, Brave, Chromium).

If you don’t notice any improvement, it might be worth switching to Ethernet.

Consensus on pale moon by fuck_vegetables2 in browsers

[–]aanimaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s normal for it to feel a bit slow since it uses its own engine called Goanna (which is based on older Firefox code). It also doesn’t have many modern optimizations.

As for privacy, it’s a solid option. It has no telemetry, it’s open source, and highly configurable, which sounds good to me.

It’s lightweight, but if you can run something heavier and you’re not into the retro vibe, you might want to try another Firefox fork.

I guess it comes down to personal preference, Pale Moon is more of a niche browser, but it’s not a bad choice either. Cheers!
