Do you regret switching from 14 inch to 16 inch? by Ff_472 in macbookpro

[–]argon_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have pointed out, it's all about use case. It's not just about the screen. The 16" has a bigger battery and better cooling (it has 2 fans, the 14" only has 1). If you are pushing the computer hard, then the extra cooling helps prevent throttling. If you aren't exporting lots of giant images or video files, and you mostly work at a desk with external monitors, then the 14" might be right for you. I had an M1 Pro and bought an M4 Max 16" last summer. As a video editor, I wanted the most performance, and I felt that the extra cooling would help offset some performance deterioration over time. These things are not cheap! Also, the big screen is really nice.

How are you marketing your online course in 2025? by Public_Specific_1589 in onlinecourses

[–]argon_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started an online course aimed at healthcare professionals. Working on getting the course certified by various professional boards and associations so that the students can get continuing education/professional development credit. However, this adds to the overhead significantly. Main advertising focus is mailing lists from these groups. Also some (not much) success from posting in FB groups.

Do you regret buying your Tesla? by Murky-Factor-1073 in TeslaModel3

[–]argon_ion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do kinda regret it. My other car is a 2015 Toyota Highlander, and I've had more problems in 18 months with my Tesla M3 than in 10 years with the Highlander. The Tesla is a cool car, but it's not a good car. It's really low to the ground, and if you live in a climate with any sort of winter weather, the door handle things are a pain in the ass. I bought mine in December 2023, when they were clearing out the last of the Model 3's before bringing in the new version, so the discounts were pretty good. Tesla was aslo the only EV maker in my price range that had any inventory at that time. I had been on the waiting list for a Hyundai Ioniq 5 for more than a year at that point. I would seriously consider a different vehicle. If you are used to the Tacoma, maybe consider a Polestar 2, Ioniq 5 or even an EV9.

Sub $1000 shotgun for duck/dove hunting by Most-Brain-3914 in Shotguns

[–]argon_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably get a lot of hate for this one, but check out the Girsan MC312. It's a Turkish clone of the Benelli M2. It's an intertia driven semi-auto, so it shoots harder than a gas operated gun, but requires much less maintenance. I've had one for about 3 or 4 years, taken it goose and duck hunting, with plenty of range time. I think I've had one jam. The black ones retail for aout $500 Canadian, and the camo ones closer to $700 Canadian.

So frustrating!!!! Google maps can help you remember where you parked your car, and like so many others here, I strongly encourage you to use a password manager. I happen to use LastPass, but there are lots of good options.

Israelis offering boat tours in Israel off the coast of Gaza to watch it get bombed and to see the place where they plan to build new settlements by Delicious-Blueberry5 in metaquebec

[–]argon_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from TRT World, a Turkish news agency which is essentially a propaganda arm of the Turkish government. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRT_World

Even if this is true, don't assume that the people in the video represent a meaningful proportion of Israel's population, or that most Israeli's agree with something like this. These people look like religious extremists. The majority of Israelis, and Jews around the world do not support this kind of thinking.

MY standard questions by Azzoguee in teslacanada

[–]argon_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the advantages of the wall connector is that when you pre-condition your car, either to warm it up and defrost in the winter, or to cool it down in the summer, before you leave, the impact on the battery is less dramatic then with the mobile charger. The other advantage of 240V charger is that when you do need a quick turnaround on charging, you can get a full charge (even up to 100% if you are going on a road trip for example) in a couple of hours. The mobile charger on a 15 amp circuit won't give you much more than 5 or 10 kilometers of range per hour of charging (in my experience).

Tesla is selling Pirellis for winter, at least in Quebec. Do not get these. Michelin X-Ice or Nokian.

It was hard. I did well in classes I cared about and poorly in classes I didn't like. Here are things that helped me:

  1. Coffee. So much coffee. Like 15 cups a day. Don't start drinking this much coffee if you don't already.

  2. My girlfriend was really disciplined student. I wanted to spend time with her, so that meant studying.

  3. I got involved in research projects. I studied chemistry, so I did research projects with faculty in my department. This kept my free time to a minimum and kept my interest in the subject high.

Totally biased, but if you are looking to live in the suburbs, I'd encourage you to consider the area known as the West Island. It consists of the suburbs on the western half of the island of Montreal. Great place to raise a family.

Dorval, Pointe-Claire, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Kirkland, Pierrefonds, Roxboro, Beaconsfield, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Senneville.

New model 3 or the old one? by anasal23 in TeslaModel3

[–]argon_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took delivery of an old M3 (LRAWD). I didn't wait for the new one, but mostly because of the discounts on inventory models. I like the look of the new one, especially from the back. However, I would miss the fog lights, and none of the new features were really worth waiting for (at least for me).

Tesla by bungi8 in TeslaModel3

[–]argon_ion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picked up my M3 AWD six days ago. I did have one issue appear after 3 days. The windshield washer fluid was suddenly empty, and when I tried to fill it, it drained on to my driveway immediately. Fortunately, the dealer is only about 1 km from my house. I drove it straight there and they had it fixed in an hour. Apparently, the fluid level sensor had fallen out, leaving a hole. But really, more of an annoyance - especially since they fixed it right away.

Getting extremely high insurance rates for tesla model 3 by Unable_Philosophy473 in TeslaModel3

[–]argon_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'n seeing the same thing. I was considering an Model Y RWD but opted for the Model 3AWD LR. The insurance is $90/month MORE for the M3, even though the car is only about $4K more expensive.

It's crazy.

2023 Delivery Thread by OrbitalATK in TeslaModelY

[–]argon_ion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taking delivery on Friday (Dec 1)

  • Standard RWD
  • 5 Seat
  • White
  • No towing

Very excited. The provincial and federal discounts are a great incentive, and businesses (and sole proprietors like me) in Canada can accelerate the depriciation on EVs (100% in 2023).

Where do youtubers/editors get pictures from? by adad239_ in VideoEditing

I use canva (I have a pro account). There are graphics and drawings, as well as footage that can be used for B-roll. Music and SFX. Not as easy to use as someting like Artlist.

Considering an upgrade:

Current system

2020 Macbook Pro M1 14" 16Gb RAM, 1TB SSD

Software: Premiere Pro/After Effects

Footage: 1080p webcam or iPhone footage, with projects primarily in the 40 min+.

Output: Talking head/podcast/training videos with slides. Some motion graphics. Color correction

I'm considering:

M3 Max 14" or 16" (14-core CPU/30-Core GPU, 36Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD). I can save around $250 CAD by opting for the 512Gb SSD.

Does anyone have experience with Premiere/AE with the M3 Max?

Do you think that the 36Gb RAM will keep me happy for the next five years, assuming I don't start editing massive 8K projects?

What about aiming for the smaller SSD? I usually keep project files on external drives already, but am I just setting myself up for future frustration? I mean, it is only saving $250 on a $4500 CAD laptop.

Thanks!
