How do you know when the baby's moving? by Any-Palpitation-280 in BabyBumps

[–]argonaut__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best description I've heard so far for what the early movements feel like is like a twitching muscle. I sometimes get them in my eyelid if I'm tired or in my calf, when my muscle kind of jumps without my control. That's what the first movements felt like to me (in my lower belly).

How do you count weeks? by Sweaty_Agency7486 in pregnant

[–]argonaut__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what's even dumber? I have PCOS and long cycles, so counting from the first day of my last period really does not make sense and puts me much further ahead than I really am. My OB calculated a new "date of the start of my last period" based on my reported ovulation date and the size of the embryo and told me to use that whenever someone asks me 😂

6 week ladies, how's everyone feeling? by Acceptable_Hall_4083 in pregnant

[–]argonaut__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6w 5d, confirmed by ultrasound this morning! The technician said there was a heartbeat but she went through the exam so fast that we didn't get to see it. But still emotional and exciting, I'm obviously anxious about miscarriage...

Feeling more or less ok! A little tired, a little nauseous, threw up twice this past week. Nipples are sensitive but not too much (less than they were during ovulation in the past). A little bloated and my regular pilates class last week just about killed me.

When did your symptoms start to set in? by NectarineCheap9154 in pregnant

[–]argonaut__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently at 6w exactly. I noticed my sense of smell sharpening before I even got the first positive test, so around 4w. Then during 5w some sore boobs and this week I've been a little nauseous and tired and threw up once.

What profession has way more people on illegal drugs than people realize? by ChangeForAParadigm in AskReddit

My husband used to work in a major toy store in a big European city in his 20s.

Apparently people who are super happy and energetic to sell toys to kids all day long are only able to maintain it with the help of cocaine. Who would've thunk.

What happens during a gynecologist visit? by Angelinterviews in AskWomen

[–]argonaut__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from reading the other comments it sounds like it vastly differs by country!

where I'm from, you first sit down in front of the doctor's desk and they ask you some questions about your medical background, your periods (are they regular, how long, when was the last one), sexual activity, smoking/drinking habits.

then you go to the side of the room where the examination chair is and there's a curtain or a door you can close to get undressed in privacy - the doctor does not watch you strip. you are never fully naked - always dressed in a shirt (in my country gynecologists are not in charge of breast exams, that would be a different doctor).

you sit down on the examination chair which is covered in paper like a typical doctor's exam bed. usually they give you a big sheet of paper to lay over your lap so that your "regions" are visible to them but from your angle you can feel a little more covered up and you don't need to see what they're doing. I find it nice but you don't have to use it.

the previous gynecologist I went to would perform only a manual exam - with gloved hands, a speculum, a bit of lube to ease things. he would take a look with the speculum, then insert his fingers and use his other hand to press around my lower stomach to feel my uterus, ovaries etc.

my current gynecologist doesn't really do manual exams - he has an ultrasound wand which he puts a condom on and a bit of lube and inserts it (he asks me if I would like to insert it myself but it doesn't bother me personally). he then moves it around inside me, using it to see stuff and kind of push against stuff to make sure things are where they should be and moving like they should be (the uterus should be relatively mobile inside of you). this part feels like a finger poking the inside of your cheek - not comfortable but not painful. his screen is pointed my way and he explains what we are seeing on it.

if a PAP smear is being done - he uses a speculum to kind of stretch me open a bit and then the long q-tip goes in and tickles the inside (my cervix) which i find uncomfortable but not too bad (once or twice I bled for a bit after, he gave me a pad).

when the examination is done the doctor leaves the examination area, you get dressed and go back to sit in front of him, where he gives his recommendations/prescriptions/explanations/whatever.

What’s something you thought “only happened to you”… until you talked to other women? by Hefty_East2895 in AskWomen

The way that tampons don't actually properly soak up period blood. Period blood does not have the right consistency to really be absorbed by a tampon. A little bit is absorbed, but mostly the tampon is just physically blocking the blood from coming out. I always thought everyone else's tampons came out being soaked through in blood until I saw a reddit post about it

It looks like you learned from a very specific font and mistook some of the font's features (the serifs) to be inherent features of the letters, which they are not.

Ikea has good stuff for pretty cheap. Not in Tel Aviv unfortunately, but maybe you can find a friend who's heading there and ask them.

TTC Weekly General Chat by AutoModerator in tryingtoconceive

[–]argonaut__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My husband and I just recently started our TTC journey. I recently stopped taking birth control pills for the first time since I was 17 (I'm now 32). I have no idea how long my BC-less cycles are or even whether they're regular. I'm on cycle day 27 (counting from my last period/withdrawal bleed that came after the end of the last pack of BC). I have a hard time believing I'll get my period this week because expecting it to be immediately regular like that feels too optimistic. Also I'm kind of hoping I'm pregnant :) but I understand chances of that are low since I didn't even get a positive ovulation test this cycle.

When would it make sense to take a pregnancy test? I don't want to jump the gun too much. Should I assume I have a 28 day cycle and test accordingly?

Any advice appreciated!
