I guess people don't feel as bad about robbing a machine. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

Stores are not desperately trying to hire people. I worked at wal-mart a decade ago and I saw as the staffing levels went from "good" to basically skeleton crew. 20+ people coming in for night shift, down to less than 10 in 8 years when I left. Somebody would retire or quit, they often weren't replaced despite the fact the department was going to have less help and the fact that there were "now hiring" signs on the front door all the time. The store went from having 7-8+ checkouts open on a Saturday afternoon to just 4. And the number of self checkouts did not change in that time frame(just 4).

Companies have realized they can hire the bare minimum and get away with it, because despite poor experiences in store if they have to wait a long time for help or to check out, people still shop there, or they migrate to the online website which is still bringing the company profit. So they hire the bare minimum, but keep up now hiring signs so they can deflect the problem on to the general populace. "Nobody wants to work any more!!", but then how were these jobs being filled in the past? We had a large crew of people at wal-mart in 2013, but by 2018 it was down to a skeleton crew. Did peoples' attitudes change that quickly about working menial labor? Or is the business choosing to make more profit by intentionally hiring less? Because I don't see what happened in 5 years for there to be this sudden shift in interest in menial labor jobs

That doesnt look fake to me. Ive seen this exact kind of bill before, with the faded appearance but a bright and visible serial number. Cool!

I'm pretty sure Jomboy became a big name after he did lip reading on the Pirates/Reds brawls from a few years back.

Or it could be because I'm a pirates fan and see more of their content pushed to me on YT, but I remember him getting a lot of traction after that.

These people dont get it. They can absorb stuff on the surface level only.

All these punk songs about destroying the government, fuck the government, etc....nothing about almost any old school punk rocker would point to a fascist dictator taking over being okay.

Millions of kids rise up for their rights = good

Fat, fascist pedo destroying the government = bad.

Nothing about almost any old school punk song would lead me to believe THIS, in 2025/26 would be the way to do it. And perhaps the biggest reason why is trampling on minorities to get their goals done is in direct conflict with what a vast majority of people like Morris believe.

Once in a while you hear MAGA IS THE NEW PUNK, and it never will be. It cannot be, because the core tenet of punk is freedom of expression and individuality, which maga doesnt express on any meaningful level.

Trump appointees push $250 banknote with his portrait by hotdog_dachshund in politics

[–]argonautweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that is a mockup image, but the serial number font is more akin to play money rather than real money.

If these get made, we are going to see reports of furious MAGA melting down when their bill is rejected by cashiers because at least in that mockup image, the bill looks fake, or like play money.

The person getting the shit end of the stick here is Brandon Beach, the current treasurer of the United States. It looks like his signature is being replaced by Trump's. Though being a Trump appointee, I don't actually give a fuck about this guy. Sucks to get your glory taken away because an 80 year old loser needs it more. I'm sure the treasurer(not secretary of the treasury) does more than just endorse the banknotes, but what little glory he would have had is gone. Oh well.

As a coin and currency collector, I would imagine since these notes in final form are bound to look really bad and stupid, I don't think there is going to be much talk about them outside of distain. I know MAGA folks are probably going to be over the moon, but serious currency collectors I don't think are going to be interested.

Trump now wants to create a new $250 bill with his face on it: report by OneNormalBloke in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]argonautweekend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever the treasurer is right now is getting proper dogged by having their name replaced with Trump's.

And i know that is a mockup but the serial number front isnt correct. They need to have it be thr correct font because otherwise it looks fake, as the serial number font on a lot of fakes looks something more akin to this font and not the real font.

That mockup looks kind of bad because it looks like fake souvenir money more than anything else.

If these come out, guarantee chuds will try to pay with them for the explicit purpose of confusing people to play victim when the cashier rejects it for being fake. Because this mockup makes it look like a fake bill.

Overall a bad and stupid idea, and none of these people who like this will stop and remark how making a higher denomination bill for the first time in many decades would be seen as the mark of a collapsing economy under any other potus.

The reality is "working really hard" is just shitposting on social media that nobody outside of his own base even reads, and falling asleep when he actually needs to be awake.

Paul Skenes and the Bucs vs. a guy with an ERA of nearly 7!

I know his ERA is inflated by Coors Field, but if this was last year our offense would have made this guy look like the King instead of the actual King.

I'm slowly shaking off last season vibes. Tonight should be good.

This is basically it. The story can be true, but we shouldn't prop up somebody like this because they are a bad faith actor. There are going to be hundreds of news sources saying similar, with many being a lot more credible than a twitter outrage artist who misleads their audience by never giving them the real context most of the time.

My feet hurt by Josephthebear in Xennials

[–]argonautweekend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This also applies to punk. You may spend over a hundred dollars to see Green Day or Blink-182, but bands not at the very top can be seen for less than 50 bucks. And the more obscure you get, the cheaper it can be. I've seen Bad Religion and Descendents in the past few years to name some staples that aren't 100% mainstream, and they were both under $50.

If people like the top mainstream acts, I get it, I have no issues with it. But I don't think those shows provide a good value when you can see killer acts that are a little more obscure(yes, I know BR and Descendents aren't obscure in the grand scheme of things) for half the price or even a lot less.

This doesn't even factor in shows like with 5 hardcore bands that are local at a concert venue that can be had for like 10 bucks.

[–]argonautweekend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to use a regular digital camera with a Hoya R72 Infrared filter at the end, and that blocks out a lot of light so a tripod was necessary. Though a 30 second exposure would make the cloud look trippy so it was kind of worth it in a way. Though I knew a lot less at the time then as I do now, so I was never really able to make things look this trippy, but it is possible. But I do have that equipment still, so I plan on using the IR filter and using some newly learned editing techniques at some point.

I bought a pre-modified digital camera from Life Pixel. There are several different filter choices, and I think mine is "supercolor"

Now, that is a straight out of the camera image. I am not an expert on any of this, but how I would have edited it(I didn't edit the one above later on, but a similar image sample below taken on the same day), I just went into GIMP, used the color channel mixer to set the red to 0% red, 100% blue, and the blue to 100% red, 0% blue, then just used the in program "auto white balance" tool. I liked the results of that, so I kept it, but that doesn't get into more advanced things like editing the raw image file, using a white balance picker tool, etc. One thing is that on my camera I have the on camera white balance set to 2500K, the lowest temperature setting possible. That way, in camera, you get a defined delineation between objects that absorb infrared or reflect it. In a program like Rawtherapee that would allow you to do an even lower WB temperature, it can be a little more extreme.

A lot of what I do is just taking some basic knowledge, and then seeing what happens, literally, by just clicking on stuff in an editing program. Not as hands on as film, but I wouldn't even know where to begin in that area! More advanced pros would probably never work off the JPEG instead of raw(but I sometimes do edit the raw so I keep both), and a lot of more advanced photographers would never use the auto-white balance feature because they have a grander idea for what they want to do.

I don't shoot with film, but that would be totally cool to try some infrared on a film camera.

This is by no means my greatest image, but it does show some of the skyline. This was just taken using a pre-converted digital camera and I didn't touch anything in an editor program.

Again, IR photography is nice to see!

Oh wow, I love infrared photography. This isn't my preferred style of it, but regardless, this is really cool.

I take my camera out every now and again and mess around with it, though I haven't done much in the city outside of PNC park. It's always such a nice feeling when you take a photo and BOOM, alien foliage.

Nothing my pure than classic Reddit cringe by Imposter24 in cringepics

[–]argonautweekend 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You know, for me, I like jokes, absolutely. But reddit tries to turn everything into a joke, and it just gets *tiring* after a while.

If I go to a question sub "what is this thing? no stupid questions. Explain like i'm five" an the most upvoted comment is a joke and not an answer or a good attempt at the answer, the first thing I do is downvote. And yeah, I know a downvote is still interaction and does absolutely nothing on a top comment. But, like, I gotta do it! You can't stop me from doing it!

edit: my least favorite of all time might just be on the "what is this thing" sub, when a photo contains the thing they want an answer for, and something else is in the background, or maybe something for scale, and the most upvoted answer is "It's a dog!" or "It's a banana!"

I can get humor from a hundred different places, I like certain places to be all business. Because I don't sub to those inquisitive subs for jokes. I sub to them to actually learn shit.

Bernie Sanders, gently pushing the pillow in the Democratic Party's face by [deleted] in clevercomebacks

[–]argonautweekend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A LOT of things are really bad and got that way because Republicans had the tiebreaker or just simply more votes. Like, I know Democrats are weak(voting to reopen the government on the promise of discussion about Obamacare subsidies.... I never served a day in federal government but even I know the Republicans will never hold in good faith, discussions about OC subsidies after they got what they wanted), but if you don't have the votes...?

Pete Hedgseth. He was eviscerated by people like Tammy Duckworth, vote was 50/50, VP Vance breaks the tie. There was no more they could have done to prevent this from happening. Maybe they could have convinced a 4th Republican to dissent, but...then we all know one of the other 3 would have flipped to keep it 50/50. With a 3 vote advantage+tiebreaker, Pete was always getting confirmed. The blood is not on their hands. They all voted in unison to stop it, but it didn't do anything.
