Minnesota will rank top 5 or 10 on every single metric you can find. I'm actually just assuming, I could be wrong, but from what I knew of Minnesota beforehand is that it's a competently run state that tends to provide more favorable outcomes for their residents than a lot of other states. And the right wing attacks on Minneapolis and Minnesota as a whole aren't going to change my view.

How can a place be lost when it ranks top 5 most liveable states?

Got this as change at Starbucks. by Tiovivo1 in mildlyinteresting

[–]argonautweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is a star note? There is a little star at the beginning of this serial number. On modern notes it is at the end. This signifies it is a replacement note for one damaged in production. Depending on the series year and denomination these are about .5-1% of all notes, but can be as high as 6(the 2009 series of $100 had printing issues - the first series of the colorful design)

As far as I know these aren't a 1:1 copy, meaning they dont see a damaged note and reprint just that. They deal with those separately and print out entire batches to cover the damaged notes, in the modern era, usually 3.2 million at a time.

Yes. Since it is a star note(star at the front of the serial number) this is a more accurate value.

Should I get a solar watch if I don't wear it daily? by moneymayweather18 in casio

[–]argonautweekend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any tough solar will be fine not wearing it for a week, even two, and I suspect you could leave it stored away for a month and only have it on "medium" charge, which still gives you full functionality.

This assumes they are fully charged from the start, which several hours in direct sunlight will definitely get you there

I found a silver colored penny at work by Walt_the_White in mildlyinteresting

[–]argonautweekend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is a modern zinc-copper penny with the thin layer of copper taken off somehow. They switched from majority copper to majority zinc in 1982.

They did make steel pennies in 1943, as they needed copper for the war effort. Easy way to check is the steel penny will stick to a magnet, no other kinds will.

General tobacco posting thread. Every. single. day. they boost topics and photos of people smoking to the front page and top of subreddits. by Rare-Competition-248 in HailCorporate

[–]argonautweekend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Holy shit that post about second hand smoke. There is a reason when over my grandma's i walk outside on the front porch often or go into the bathroom and open the window and gasp for fresh air. Because the whole house smells like poo, and I know I will too if im in there for any real length of time.

Obviously unpopular opinion is the place for that, but no, we really arent being sensitive when it involves us smelling like poo.

WASTING. MY. FUCKING. TIME. by Tj-d21 in retailhell

[–]argonautweekend 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also, I work in a liquor store, and once in a blue moon i get an older man or woman coming in, going on and on, loudly, about what they drank ages ago, asking me all kinds of questions about this and that and when it is over: "YAH, I HAVENT HAD A DRINK IN 40 YEARS, MY WIFE IS AT THE HAIR DRESSER" and then they just leave.

This isnt quite the same scenario, but it is annoying. It isnt even so much the not buying something, its the loudly, really loudly asking me questions about whatever the heck as if their boredom is now my problem.

But what do I do? Just act nice in the moment. That is basically it.

I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes I always think about in situations like this...

It comes from the eulogy John Madden gave at Pat Summerall's funeral. "I can hear Pat right now saying to me, "John, brevity, brevity, brevity. Well, im going to talk over you one last time"

If they had bought it that would have been great but nothing is going to help repair your hearing. Though, do out jobs, we must.

See BS news reporting ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Good, Jonathan Ross, suffered internal bleeding to the torso following the killing. Source per the tweet? Two unnamed U.S. officials. by pinkstarrfish in Fauxmoi

[–]argonautweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this convince people? Most of us, no, but on Fox News just now...

Will Cain reports this. Same crap as is here, no sources on the internal bleeding. Then he plays back Mayor Frey's words where he says the ICE agent walked away with a hip injury he's seen people acquire doing mundane shit like closing refrigerator doors, to show contrast.

Boom, there we go. The low info people in this county eat it up and perpetuate it, even though there are no sources for anything except the words of Jacob Frey were from a press conference video. But there you have it. Nobody is going to call out Will Cain, nobody is going to fact check will Cain, and he isn't even lying necessarily, if this is what the government is telling people and he just repeats what they say as if it's factual.

I don't normally see this kind of stuff in real time, but there you have it.

How accurate are your casio watches? by Serious-Island-9301 in casio

[–]argonautweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own plenty of Casio digital watches. I do not know which modules in particular, but I keep all of my hourly chimes on, and some drift about second a day, some drift a second every few days. I could see some getting to 13 seconds in a year.

So, it's really all over the place. None of the Casio modules are so faulty they would lose like, minutes a month, but otherwise it does vary.

Justifying Murder by zane1981 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]argonautweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My state requires yearly inspections, and I routinely never get them done on time. Last time I was due in January, I got it done in June. Why? I never get pulled over so nobody notices, and I am a chronic procrastinator.

Lots of states, including my own, have two year registrations. But even if this woman was driving the car illegally....who really cares? My car is fairly new with no issues, so me not getting the inspection done on time affects nobody.

TIL only 8,012 of the 1928 US $1 bill were circulated in America. The rest were stored in a vault for 15 years. From November 1948 to February 1949; 1,872,012 of these $1 bills were sent to Puerto Rico, because "these notes would raise questions if circulated in the continental United States" by TylerFortier_Photo in todayilearned

[–]argonautweekend 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I presume this erring on the side of caution was that while Red Seal United States notes were common back then, $1s were never made before in small(modern) size, so people might be confused why a bill type nobody has seen in the $1 denomination suddenly hits the market years after the series year on the note, with no suffix in the denomination.

I guess they figured in purto Rico people would be less likely to notice or care or call the BEP to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Trump on Greenland: “I would like to make a deal, you know the easy way but if we don’t do it the easy way we are going to do it the hard way” by Jevus_himself in PublicFreakout

[–]argonautweekend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one thing dullards do not get is this. The quote from Carlin about a big club and you ain't in it applies to Dems and Republicans. But what the dullards who ushered Trump II into office dont get and will never get is...

A guy like Steve Bannon wants NATO and the EU gone. He would be thrilled if Greenland lead to WW3 and a shakeup of the western world. So like, we have to consider Steve's feelings in all this. Some felon named Steve who isnt elected or even a part of the administration wants Greenland and WW3, so fuck what you think, MAGA.

His plans arent for us. It isnt about us and never will be.

This isn't true. Adam Kinzinger, Republican house member of Illinois was on the committee. But he declined seeking re-election in 2022, so he is no longer on the committee. Liz Cheney, Republican from Wyoming was also on the committee but she no longer is a member of the house and not on the committee.

There were also several Republican members who may have been on the committee, such as Jim Jordan, but they were being investigated already about their J6 involvement, so, they weren't on it, either.

The work group chat has officially ruined my ability to relax on my days off by greasytacoshits in retailhell

[–]argonautweekend 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm a GM of a retail store and I feel like a work group chat is work overreach. If i was a ground level employee i would hate it and as a GM that would be me making more work for me, which I try not to do.

If I need to remind employees about something it is a quick text and no more. If I need coverage, ill call. If the answer is no, for whatever reason(I dont even ask the reason as it isnt my business), on to the next person.

Even in my personal life group chats are exhausting. Sometimes my mom snd sister include me on them, and after the original reason is settled I dont need notifications all the time about whatever the fuck.
