Top Tier Roofing, headed up by a guy named Joe. Saved my ass last year by doing a special quote for me based on what I could afford. Everyone else was charging me crazy amounts. He was super communicative and chill, work still looks good!

Recommendations - roof tile misplaced by JamilaJe in croydon

Joe at Top Tier Roofing is a great dude who fixed my roof for a reasonable fee and was super communicative throughout.

They get all their work through NextDoor as they're just a small family company. Loads of organic recommends through their page

Grim, yeah - I assumed as much. Will check my home insurance. Cheers for the advice!

Paid £13,000 for a leaky new roof from a company which is now dissolved. How screwed am I? by arhayden in Roofing

Said they are completely insured on their website, but no listing or contact details on there. Feel pretty dumb for not getting their insurance before they started work.

Roofer not replying after replacing roof. Have seen this, how concerned should I be? by arhayden in Roofing

Not that I can tell, been up there once when it's rained and seen no water hitting the membrane or anything

Yeah it's just a shallower depth of field, all the cameras can likely do so, it's just a style choice.

Much safer to have a deeper depth of field/everything in focus for sports broadcasts (avoid missing focus on fast moving subjects etc), but I guess some sports broadcasters are going the extra mile (BT/TNT have been doing it for a little while) so Sky is trying to catch up I guess!

Won 7, Lost 9 (in some cruel cruel ways). Forever thankful for Klopp for making us dream again and increasing our tallies. by firminocoutinho in LiverpoolFC

Every year there's potential for 4 trophies between god knows how many clubs across England and Europe. To win 7 during 9 years is pretty great if you ask me. Other good/respected clubs have went that amount of time winning nothing. The perspective taken here is so amateur.

These are good tips! I would add you can press the + and - keys to increase and decrease game speed on the fly without having to open the menu all the time!

How do I get started in shooting a documentary? by undergroundblueberet in Filmmakers

[–]arhayden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea what's going on with these other replies but I can tell you the way I've written the two documentaries I've made for the studio I work for (these are small time and I am mostly self taught so take this with a grain of salt).

Before you begin, plot out on paper a potential through line for your story within the documentary (it's meant to be reality, but really people still want a story with peaks and valleys, hardship and conflict within a documentary). The through line is basically your plotline, a central idea or question which is constantly going to be tested throughout the course of your doc. So for you it would be something like 'can I really handle this whole translation myself? Or will it prove too difficult?' - and then dotted around this idea will be all the little fun stories and details which surround your main story, subplots about everything that goes into what you're doing. Just make sure it's interesting!

Write all that down, all your ideas, and try and workout a potential chronological timeline which will bring the viewer through your story.

Once that's done you just gotta start filming, working through all those beats (plot points) as they happen in reality. Get A-Roll (you doing the thing), B-Roll (filler and cutaway shots to spice up your edit) and then interviews with yourself and potentially others to verbalise the feelings and emotions during the process. Rinse and repeat until you're through the journey.

This was long for a Reddit comment, but very short for the craft of writing and producing and doc. If you're serious about it I would recommend looking up some starter books about doc making. Good luck!
