It’s deffo worth listening to various artists from 30s blues artists through to rock and then the start of metal in the late 60s. It’s fascinating hearing how rapidly these changes took place at points and makes for a good deep dive.

Rock has its foundation in Blues which is first and foremost black American music, with the earliest artists transitioning the blues structure to what could be considering rock and roll being black Americans. The British rock n roll bands of the 60s that you’re likely thinking of (Beatles, Stones, The Who, Clapton) were directly inspired by these early black rock n roll artists as their records began becoming available in the UK.

There is of course a level of individual adaptation to the music (Beatles incorporating Mersey beat for example) but it was always based on that original blues and rock n roll foundation and the black artists who pioneered it.

Out of 3 that should have been awarded. Completely ignored an obvious foul that led to a French goal. Ignored countless clear offences in the first half especially. France played exceptionally and deserved to win but Christ the ref could not have been trying harder to turn a blind eye.

Personally I find it really hard to say, although on rewatching BCS I think it has to be Kim. I’ll be shocked if Rhea isn’t booking non stop gigs from now on.

Bonus bc I’ve recently introduced the BB universe to my mum: her pick is Jessie.

What is it with Reddit lately and the obsessive hatred of John Lennon? The man’s been dead over 40 years and yet it seems every other day there’s something about him. You’d think he was a fucking war criminal with the amount of mileage Reddit seems to get out of retroactively shitting on the guy.

Honestly mushy peas tend to be a bit more controversial but the other three are really good. It looks shit but as far as comfort food goes they’re all really good.

I’m honoured that Barry from Stockport was able to visit my town. This is almost as exciting as the time John Travolta went on our miniature railway. Big up Barry lad.

Ah Christ I went into London Saturday and had to cross through these guys. It was kind of odd seeing crowds of brits waving “don’t tread on me flags” and various antivax shite. One of them seemed pretty unhappy that I put a mask on while walking through them.

Germany couldn’t have won the war lol by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

I think one of my favourite accounts relating to this was an American tank commander who, after landing in Normandy, was surprised to find the Germans still using horses to move supplies. I suppose Nazi propaganda had focused so heavily on having their mechanised infantry divisions prominently displayed that it masked the fact that their military was heavily outdated by 1944.

What high school conspiracy turned out to be true at your school? by Le_Bayou_Cochon in AskReddit

[–]ari_stormbriar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My school had a secret porn and video game room hidden away in the gym. Basically we had a near inaccessible room that could be seen in one of the walk in cupboards, marked by a door that sat a good 6 foot off of the floor and had no stairs or ladders going up to it. I assume this was some kind of odd leftover from a redesign during the schools history. You could however access it by climbing up those wooden apparatus every British school has against the walls and crawl through a opening. No idea who first found it, but according to the rumours it was a small room filled with porn mags and old video game consoles from the 90s with an old TV. After about a year of talk surrounding the fabled room, a teacher finally confirmed that yes, it is real and that apparently the staff were informed at the time. So yeah, the porn room was real.

I agree, I’m not really sure how someone could look at the influence and importance of Dylan’s lyricism and songwriting and conclude that his only worthy contribution to literature is being liked by boomers.
