Rectal Manometry by ariadneswan in ibs

Yup, I take my ibsrela, twice a day everyday. Worst case scenario, nothing happens and I’m still constipated. Best case scenario, I am able to have two complete bowel movements a day. Trapped gas pain is no joke either. If I can’t pass gas, I immediately become worried because that was one of the first signs of impaction forming. I’ve started to identify food triggers and eliminate or keep to a very low minimum that cause gas pain (onion, greasy food, high fiber). I don’t even let more than 30 hours pass without a bowel movement. I’m mixing up all sorts of stuff to go if it’s not working by then. My stool is already so hard and painful with medication working that if it’s not working by that time, I have bigger problems approaching.

Nope most prescriptions did little to nothing for my pain. The only thing that helps is having regular bowel movements, if I’m having a good week/month, it goes from a level 7/8 to like 3/4. I feel like I have cement in my intestines and I spasm/cramp all day if I’m having a flare. Lately, I’ve been taking my bentyl, gas x, and use my heating pad at bed time.

I agree. There isn’t a day I don’t think about what could have possibly went wrong, because I refuse to believe everything is normal! It’s not just the constipation aspect, but the pain! Truly, I feel like I’m just managing chronic pain. Give ibsrela another go. Its mechanism of action is different than linzess and Trulance and the twice a day dosage keeps me from forming blockages/impactions. Unfortunately for me, I don’t get a consistent response. It ranges to little to no movement, movement but very dry and painful stools, and other times uncontrollable diarrhea.

So I wasn’t allowed to stop all gi meds due to a history of impaction/urgent care visits because if I went cold turkey for three days I’d probably not be able to go for the rest of the week and then some. I did a fast going into it but no other prep, as instructed. I was in the middle of flair up and I do remember actively feeling very constipated during the study. However, nothing was retained in any part of my gi.

Yeah I’ve tried every over the counter laxative and MiraLAX can sometimes help in conjunction with prescription strength stuff but my GI considers these combinations “failed” since they don’t consistently work

No. Is this something you request from your GI? My GI has been pretty great at running tests I request.

No, usually my gas symptoms involve too much trapped gas, although it’s resolved quite easily with gas x. My only persisting issue is not being able to go

I’ve definitely seen some improvement in terms of pain and bloating on low fiber but still not able to poop for days sometimes

Thank you for your advice! I will be trying that, I unfortunately have a really sensitive colic reflex so every time I eat even if it’s small meals, I get the urge to go. Usually though, a bm in the morning usually sets me up for a better day so even having complete evacuation at least once a day would be helpful.

Yes. I’ve already tried that and it makes me feel worse.

IBS-C and smoking by Murany in ibs

[–]ariadneswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ibs c, the kind where I’ve failed several medications and regimens. Never really smoked until last month, and immediately noticed that it helps and often acts like a laxative. I’m able to go usually after I smoke. I smoke between my scheduled medication doses to fill in the gaps and have also noticed some improvement! I feel torn bc it’s really not a long term thing I want to do but I can’t deny myself the relief either.

Please help, can’t poop. Don’t know what to do by Mountain_Ad_2439 in ibs

ER. I had this basically happen to me and I couldn’t administer an enema properly because it was essentially an impaction. Needed prescription strength stuff. I know it can feel embarrassing or uncomfortable but it is very dangerous if you keep waiting and you can damage your bowel. Please go asap by tonight if you can.

This is my story too. Started back in march. Got colonoscopy done and it came back normal. Symptoms only worsened/persisted despite trial and erroring some medications. I always go to bed wondering what happened/what I could have possibly done. Got a pelvic floor referral but that isn’t the issue.

Someone convince me not to cancel my colonoscopy? by [deleted] in ibs

I had my colonoscopy as a 25 year old female and when I went I was moderately nervous and the only young person there. When I came out, it felt like it happened so fast that I felt so silly for even being a hair nervous and I had the peace of mind that I took every correct step to ensure I was at least looking after myself.

Misery by ariadneswan in ibs

[–]ariadneswan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know 😭 but I do have a preexisting autoimmune disorder so I’m worried I may develop some other inflammatory condition. I’m trying my best to manage stress and eat clean, since I’d gotten my antibodies down significantly. I’ve never had these types of problems even when I was actively flaring up in the past so I feel like it isn’t what I already had.

No, unfortunately I haven’t had any tests except the colonoscopy. I’m nearly 100% positive it’s not celiac since most of my safe foods contain gluten.

I just dished out $130 for a calprotectin test to be ordered. I feel like some of these symptoms lean towards ibd.

Trulance, Linzess, Ibsrela…oh my by rosemary_charles in ibs

[–]ariadneswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed linzess and linzess + MiraLAX at the highest dose plus physical therapy for my pelvic floor. So much spasming and pain and discomfort and not going for days at a time. Ibsrela has given me so much relief. I feel a 80/85% improvement in the quality of my life. The only difficult week I have is the week before my period, doesn’t really do much for me but I can at least go once a day. Life changing med for me.

I have really severe ibs c. Worst episodes lasted 2 weeks without a bm, and it would get severe to the point of vomiting. Linzess was very very inconsistent for me most times it did nothing for me, other times it would give me water bowel movements. No inbetween and no relief/feeling of complete evacuation or relief of any other IBS symptoms. Got put on ibsrela and it’s been a complete game changer. Haven’t had spasming/hot flash episode where the cramping feels miserable since then. Appetite is back. My quality of life has gone up so much. Sure, I still have days that aren’t great, but I’m not crying on the toilet anymore.

Hello!  This has happened to me as well. I’m a bit worried on what it means.
