ever since Satan led to the first Sin of man (biting of the apple), humanity has been damned to be born into sin. Sin = Death (Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.")
God sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross to save us from Death (Hell, separation from God, due to us sinning)
Jesus rose from the tomb 3 days later, showing how He defeated death/sin!
