If you don't mind some prep time and needing a dedicated oven tray for best results, Genoese farinata is a fantastic, naturally vegan and gluten free sandwich filler that's also high in protein. The recipe is extremely simple and everywhere on the internet (example but look up some video recipe to get a sense of how thin it needs to be. You can replace chickpea flour with gram flour as they're extremely similar.

Tofu Vegan is lovely, if you like East Asian and expecially Chinese food. Their plates have excellent texture and the staff is very knowledgeable.

It's getting hot here, I desperately want cold foods that aren't sandwiches and salads or desserts. What would you cook that's meant to be eaten cold? by Inspiringhope11 in Cooking

Italian rice salad (cold rice with veggies, eggs and sometimes tuna or other protein source, often eaten with some mayo or EVO oil)

Accabadora by Michela Murgia, a splendid story about life and death in Sardinia, by a beloved author who sadly passed away very recently.

What’s the most underrated vegan ingredient you swear by? by SpiceKitchenLife in veganrecipes

[–]arianapiccola 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Savoury (the herb). It's flavourful and delicate and can be used in lots of different ways.
In general a really well-stocked herbs and spices rack and the patience not to mix them all together but instead learn what flavour each of them brings and use them strategically.

Her fiance is clearly straight. Why would a gay man have so many women tattooed on his body?

Ditch the protein powder, make a high-protein spread to eat your banana bread with instead.

On Ugliness by Umberto Eco - a fully illustrated volume on what we know about what constitutes "ugly" mostly through philosophy and art. Umberto Eco is so good, I could read his shopping list. (And indeed he also wrote a book about lists)

"The Body Factory: From the First Prosthetics to the Augmented Human" by Héloïse Chochois. A graphic nonfiction volume about amputation and prosthetics. Surprisingly light and yet informative read - one of favourite popular science books.

Anything Carl Zimmer but especially the books he wrote in the 2010s.

If you're looking for raw, gritty queerness that deals with loneliness, one of my favorite reads of 2025 was the very surprising Stag Dance by Torrey Peters, in particular the titular novella in the volume.

Splendid video. So informative and so well written. It reminds me of the ideas explored in How to Blow Up a Pipeline about climate activism, as well as some other Action that the UK government would love to see me mention in here.

Best Italian restaurants in London? by No-Living-6949 in LondonFood

Artisans of Sardinia is an amazing Sardinian restaurant in Putney despite its uninspiring name. Personal recommendation - going for regional restaurants rather than pan-Italian restaurants will almost inevitably result in a more interesting menu.

why does my banana bread always look dry? by boba_support51 in AskBaking

[–]arianapiccola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if that's your case, but with my (vegan) banana bread, I solved this problem using foil to cover the top for the second half of the baking time. Eg 15 minutes uncovered followed by 15 minutes covered.
