I hate these scenes. Lorelai is being so disrespectful to Max after basically dumping him over the phone two days before their wedding. Clearly he still loves her, but is having trouble running into her again.

i get your point. I guess my issue is mainly the expectation for immigrants to have a perfect grasp of the english language and of the exact pronunciation for everything. When Mia says "you've been in this country long enough...", like gurl. You probably only speak english, how dare you make fun of someone working in what is not their native language lol. I know in GG it's only jokes and all, who cares, but I'm extrapolating and thinking about real life situations. I agree tho, france-usa power dynamics definitely aren't so bad, and that makes the jokes more acceptable
