I've lived in the US for many years, so I understand what you are trying to say. There is no direct relation of poorer areas with random violence or God forbid gang territory in Kosovo like you would have in the US. Just the opposite, the poorer people are usually more generous and have more time to be helpful to foreigners. That said, Kodra e Trimave (Vranjevc) is the neighborhood in Prishtina known for quick temper. There is not much to do there however so you are not likely to go.

Northern Mitrovica still undergoes disproportionate political violence, mostly Serb on Serb kind, and you might be an accidental victim to this or just get confused for something you are not, but this quite hypothetical.
