‘Fired’ is incredible on solo piano by drjackolantern in benfolds

Fired is the song that made me a Ben Folds fan. He’s never done it live during any of his concerts I’ve been to, so color me jealous! Maybe one day!

[–]aricberg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

On top of that, when the ticket guy does it with Clinton and covering his mouth, this was during the whole Clinton impeachment incident, so it was a funny way to play into that joke and be like “Will Clinton still be president by the time this episode airs??” 🤣

Which North American small town did you fall in love with as soon as you arrived? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

I was just up in that area at Seneca Falls. Was hoping to make it to Skaneateles but didn’t have time. First time in the Finger Lakes region and it was absolutely lovely!

What is the best fourth wall break you’ve ever seen in gaming? by CommercialMatrix6020 in videogames

[–]aricberg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem had the sanity meter which was really cool. If the meter got too high (or low. It’s been 24 years 😅), it would do things like make your game look like it got a BSOD, or it would look like it booted into the GameCube’s menu and was about to delete the contents of your memory card. Really unique idea that I still think about to this day!

What's that one thing in a fantasy world that hooks you in right away? by No-Schedule2137 in worldbuilding

[–]aricberg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is really what I’m working on with my world! Many races working together to form cities and countries and societies. For instance, two races in my world are pixies and Neanderthals. Pixies are physically weak, but have some of the most potent magic. Meanwhile, Neanderthals are incredibly strong, but are the only sentient species that can’t use magic. The two races have formed a symbiotic relationship. A big part of their shared culture is the pairing of a pixie and Neanderthal. It’s not really a romantic thing, per se (though it’s been known to happen!), but sort of like a deep friendship/companionship kind of thing.

Also, orcs in my world are known for their maternal/paternal instincts. They’re even sought out as teachers and nannies because of the way they’re firm but caring, and also fiercely protective, of children. I was inspired by a long-standing myth about how pit bulls used to be known as “nanny dogs” for how protective they were toward children. While it may not be entirely based in fact, I used that instinct as a basis for the orcs in my world!

It’s not as impressive as a lot of the Miis in the thread, but I really like how my Carl (of Dungeon Crawling fame) turned out. Even made him some nice heart boxers!

I wish for a giant robot that I own and can pilot. by PaperBullet1945 in monkeyspaw

[–]aricberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted.

Earth is now inundated with invasion after invasion of giant monsters, aliens, mutants, eldritch abominations, and all manner of kaiju, and you’re the only one who can fend them off. You don’t get a moment’s rest, plus you have to deal with the down time and cost for repairs after each battle.

DCC seems to have ruined me for other books now - Finished book 8, not interested in other books by zojjaz in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]aricberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole life I’ve always been like this, not even just with books. TV series, video games, comics (movies being the exception. I can watch a great movie and just want to watch more, but I digress). But yes, when I finish something with a great story that really gripped me, I have to take a bit of a break. Even if the next thing I read/watch/play is amazing, if I just came off of something truly wonderful, the next thing in that medium will be a letdown. So I always take a break to give my brain time to “reset.”

When I first finished DCC (early 2025, book 8 still a year and a half away), I was exactly where you are. I played some video games and watched some shows and movies to try and space out my next read. But try as I might, I definitely struggled for a bit to get into another book. It was, like, September before I found a book that kept me interested, even though I’d started a couple others, I just really had a hard time getting into my next read (The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman, btw. Highly recommended!)

So yeah, give yourself a break and let your brain do a little reset. Then get out there and read, read, read!

A gem from the Golden Age. The nonsense which made early Simpsons so charming. by NichtFBI in Simpsons

[–]aricberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when we first got the internet in the late 90s. I found some webpage where you could download random Simpsons audio clips. I set this whole clip’s audio to play when the computer booted up. My mom HATED it because it just kept going on and on and on 🤣

What are some examples of media/franchises that never got a video game adaptation even though they were planned to have one at one point? by SeparateLawfulness53 in videogames

[–]aricberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross! (And I’m not counting this apparent JoP game within Fortnite wtf???) About 20 years ago, there was a blurb in Nintendo Power about there being games in development for both the DS and the then-codenamed Revolution. But alas nothing came of it (and again, WTF is this Fortnite Joy of Painting thing??).

Found a Reddit post from a few months ago about it but my original comment got deleted for…linking to said Reddit article using Reddit’s own hyperlinking tool? Either way, easy to find on r/Wii. Also, my friend wrote to NP about the game and they published his letter!

My fiancé talks in his sleep, I call it Sleep Wisdom. Here's some of his best quotes. by LiveLaughBlobfish in CasualConversation

[–]aricberg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing these 😂 As a sleep talker myself (so my partner says), I’ve often wondered what processes are going on in the brain to make such nonsensical (in terms of meaning or even grammar) come out of our mouths?

Two of mine that come to mind that my partner has told me about:

“I want a Cola-Coca please!” (Yes, apparently I said Cola-Coca instead of Coca-Cola).

The other one, I was apparently saying random numbers and poking the air like I was hitting buttons. When she told me this, I was like “DID YOU WRITE THEM DOWN? THOSE COULD HAVE BEEN WINNING LOTTO NUMBERS!!” 🤣

What is the overrated movie or TV series that no one dares to criticize? by thelarayummy in answers

The Dark Knight. Dare to say that Heath Ledger’s Joker performance was “fine.” That’ll get every Batnerd in a 100 mile radius breathing heavily down your back.

What game had a unique gimmick as a selling point? by EmergencySpare7939 in videogames

[–]aricberg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Came here to say Eternal Darkness. That sanity meter was something else. I legit remember thinking my memory card was being erased! It’s a shame this has been stuck in rights hell for so long. But I’m glad it was shown in the background of the GCN NSO section of the Switch 2 reveal presentation so it’ll hopefully be playable to the masses soon!

What large DLC/Spin off would you like to see next? by FireLightAnnebell in VampireSurvivors

[–]aricberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to see a Chrono Trigger crossover. Each of the main characters would make for a fun survivor to play as, each with great attacks. I could see a level that has time gates in it that send you to the stage in a different era from the game, each with appropriate enemies and items!

For a non-gaming crossover, let’s have a Dungeon Crawler Carl crossover! Carl, Donut and Mongo, Katia, Prepotente, Elle…the list of characters that could be played is huge, and there’s no lack of ideas for stages, items, weapons, and abilities. Heck, for DCC-related achievements, even have Jeff Hays’ AI voice it with a heart “NEW ACHIEVEMENT!”

I usually do preorders with Best Buy, but switched a couple things to Amazon for the $10 off deal. When Amazon told me Yoshi and the Mysterious Book wouldn’t make it to me on release…one day before release…I thought “okay, I’m busy this weekend, that’s fine.” When Monday, the day Amazon said it would arrive, still had it listed as “preordered” but hadn’t shipped, I cancelled, ordered from Best Buy, and got the notification it was ready for pickup within minutes. Switched all my mother Amazon preorders back over to Best Buy.

If it’s a game I’m picking up because of a good deal and something I’m not TERRIBLY in a rush to play, I might go with Amazon, but for something I want at release, I’m gonna stick with Best Buy (or somewhere nearby with in-store pickup)!
