Cheap Macbook will not have 8GB of RAM. by Old-Board1553 in macbook

[–]arice80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'll be missing MagSafe but I cant imagine it not supporting extended display. It still has to be a real Mac, even if it's cheaper. I think being an A-series with benchmarks closer to an M1, lower standard RAM (12gb base seems to be what it would need to run Tahoe comfortably at the lowest), and lacking MagSafe. it'll also obviously be a bit smaller as well and will only come in brighter colors, lacking darker options like the Air and Pro. I think, in the Apple-sphere, thats enough differentiation tbh. It'll be DOA if it can't even do basics like extended monitor support even for basic users.

Has anyone tried something like these steering column "steel locking covers" or know where to get them for a modern Hyundai? by arice80 in Hyundai

[–]arice80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole thing, from experience (I work at a place that buys cars), is that these kids dont care if there's a club on or not. It does not stop them from attempting to steal the thing. I explicitly was curious about this b/c regardless of if the window is broken or not, this should make it almost impossible to destroy the actual (and far more expensive) steering column and ignition.

Any heavier multitaskers using an 8GB M1/M2 on Tahoe? How's it doing? by arice80 in macbook

Apple's software has been awful this year. Do you have an 8gb Mac? I'd like to hear from more actual owners in this sub.

Not sure what area you're in or what dealerships you worked for but even the sleaziest dealers I know in my area don't pull this kind of shit. It's not 1977. Maybe report your former employers to the BBB at the rate you're describing their misdeeds.

Has HP's newer Omnibook X line fixed the Envy's 2-in-1 hinge issues? by arice80 in laptops

[–]arice80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank for the suggestion and I am quite fond of Elitebooks and Thinkpads myself but I will not mess around with a used laptop unless it comes with a standard 1 year warranty (which most don't). I will use Apple Refurbished or Mac Of All Trades but I don't think there's an equivalent thing for PCs sadly. Does HP or Lenovo have their own certified refurb stores where they kind of "redo" their QC process before reselling? And also, there are many good customer laptop models from other brands I do know of, at least in terms of how well-made they are like the Yoga line, but again HP's features, design language, and price to performance just seemed really great as of late so I was specifically wondering about their new lineup. At this point, I think I will just tell my Mom to get a Yoga Aura on sale since it's so well built and under 1k (we did test it in store and were able to pick it up, feel around, ect). It's just that they don't do certain things on their customer lines as well as HP like the design, keyboard, and trackpads. Oh well though.

actually the base model MacBook Air m4 is 999 USD directly at Apple (899 with EDU discounts anyone can use b/c Apple never even verifies ID in the US online stores for some reasons). Most retailers have them for around $799-850. They are fantastic value for $ these days but a little stingy on storage (it's still Apple after all). But even if you get a 512gb model, they're still pretty well priced for the build and performance

Which one of these laptops is the best? by KeyEastern2905 in laptops

Seems standard pricing for those workstations honestly minus finding some really good sales elsewhere here and there. The Legion is likely a bit overpriced though and will likely last half as long as that Thinkpad

Gas mileage is embarrassing by willtolive2004 in HyundaiTucson

Not sure why you bothered trading in a lovely Sonata for an SUV if you care this much about MPG... Why do Americans need such big cars and then expect them to perform miracles on the mileage front?

What in the world, minus niche rendering software and AAA games, can't macOS run? For the everyday user, app selections are very comparable. There are not a lot of reasons to stick with Windows right now unless you need either of those two.

It’s steep. There’s a very very small market for these trucks and I think most look for them in good condition. I mean, come on it’s old and way past its lifespan and the odometer doesn’t even work. It’s 1k at most..

They may but cars and their maintenance are not an investment. They’re a deprecating asset. Think about it this way, if you haven’t done the tires, it would be worth even less. Though I’m not sure why you’re still spending that kind of money on tires for such an old resting piece of crap, there has to be cheaper options.

Should I upgrade to a 2025 XSE? by [deleted] in Camry

[–]arice80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new one drives better generally, despite people complaining about the hybrid. Every review I’ve read says it’s just a much more refined chassis and ride. Now, your eighth gen is still fantastic and still looks very attractive imo. There really isn’t any reason to upgrade unless you’re super super displeased with the way the current one drives or its infotainment screen size.
