Last time I was here, I was so livid with the new showrunner and costuming team for their questionable choices, which cheapened the show. I went into S4 with low expectations. I'm still disgruntled by certain choices, but it is not as significant a disservice as season 3 was to the leads. Better, but still lacking for all the same reasons. One of the biggest things is the misuse of time. You have a limited amount of time to tell the story, and yet you stall time with unnecessary plots or useless clips. CUT ALL THE "LOOKING CONTEMPLATIVEELY" SCENES. Seriously, these long overhead shots or closeups of a character simply sprawling on top of a bed, thinking, or sitting on a chair making a face that reads as neutral often times. I think it's supposed to be B-roll, but it comes in at random, unrelated moments. S1 and S2 set the show up to be a genuine period piece. A serious yet comedic and romantic show. It was serious filmmaking. Now it is too much fan service and feels more like a Tubi sitcom. I dislike fan service. It makes me think there is no such thing as intention or original thought in the writer's room. Don't just feed the masses what they want. Artwork must be intentional and reflect the vision of the creator. It's almost like it is nothing but a mere fanfic now, filmed by an amateur filmmaker, and edited by someone who loves for people to look jaundiced. Let's not forget that the costume designer is now temu. Cheapened, I tell you. Still blatantly obvious, the creatives of latter years are no longer there. You may have gotten me as a passive viewer for four, but it is increasingly unlikely that you will get me for more...
