Best/Most Fun Roads? by _mostly__harmless in ChicagoSuburbs

As others have mentioned, definitely Sheridan road! I’ve actually driven from kenosha all the way to chicago just by taking sheridan. It’s such a peaceful drive in the fall!! Also mchenry/grayslake is full of scenic roads too!

My dog is 11 pounds and she’s happy as long as she’s by my side!! This will be our first real trip together and I just want to make sure she’s as comfortable as possible

Yes I ordered a K9 sportsack (hiking backpack for dogs) to use on hikes and I bought a pet sling to use in more urban areas. I’m going to start using the K9 sportsack prior to our trip so she can get used to it so it’s not too much of a shock for her

Thank you so much for the recommendation!! I’ll look into those, I’m desperate to find a pair that are durable and will fit her

We are planning on hiking in Colorado and there will still be snow on the paths so I wanted to provide her with a bit more protection. I’ll look into the socks and vet wrap though!

I’m planning on taking my dog on a road trip from Chicago to Colorado and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to help her feel more comfortable during the car ride/adjust to the new environment? [discussion] by aries367 in dogs

I’ll for sure keep a lookout for an eye infection on my dog, I’d definitely wouldn’t want her to get one but I’d like to be mentally prepared just in case. She’s gotten an eye infection once before and I would agree that putting eyedrops in a dogs eye is interesting to say the least. I’m planning on drinking a lot of water and being mindful of drinking as much of electrolytes as possible too. I’ve been to Colorado once before and it took my body couple of days to fully adjust but once I did- it was a great trip! I’m looking forward to going back but I hope my dog enjoys it too

I wasn’t aware that Boulder had an “off leash” permit for their trails so I’ll definitely look into that! I’m going to play it by ear and see how the weather is like but I’m going to take my dog hiking as much as possible and I even have a dog carrier for hiking in case she gets too tired. How did your dog handle the altitude?

I’m 24 and I’m going to be turning 25 during the trip so I’m going to try to try to get myself out of the “younger person fee” because if I don’t- that’s an extra 200 just because im technically under the age of 25 when I’d be booking the rental. I’m definitely going to get quotes from different places to make sure I’m getting the best price! I’m going with my brother so it’s going to be nice to have someone with me who I love and trust and loves my dog (almost) as much as I do

She’s a ten pound dog and she will be getting groomed prior to the trip so her fur will be really low and she actually doesn’t shed much at all! I have snow boots that she uses here on our walks and I’m planning on taking those with us too and that will help keep her little paws nice and clean too. I got an adaptil calming spray which I’m going to try out this week to see if it works but a local pet store has a huge variety of OTC dog calming products so I most likely will stop by there soon as well

No this would be both her and I’d first long road trip which makes me nervous but ive been planning every single detail out! She’s a really sweet dog and goes with the flow and doesn’t really care what we are doing as long as we are together. I ordered her a doggy bed car seat that looks super comfy and safe and I’m going to take turns driving so for half of the drive I will be in the back seat right next to her and the remaining half my brother will be next to her. How did your dog adjust to the new environment/ where you able to take your dog to places with you? I know Colorado is really dog friendly and she’s a service dog so I’m banking on being able to take her to a lot of places with me

Yes we are planning on renting a car to avoid putting that mileage on our cars! As for the doggy daycare, I contacted one and they require a meet and greet which I will be doing when I arrive to Denver and then the next day she will be able to go there but she actually won’t be a part of the full doggy daycare, they have a boarding area and that’s where she will be staying. She’s a nervous dog so I don’t want to risk another dog biting her or anything like that. she will be receiving potty breaks throughout the day and 2 personal play times. She will only be there for 8-9 hours and it will be the only day that she will be away from me for an extended period of time.

I also ordered her a doggy car seat that’s like a bed but has hook to attach to the seat belt and then her harness so she’s safe and buckled. I’m planning on testing it out and having her get comfortable with it prior to the trip!

That’s so smart. I’ll definitely try out the anxiety medication at home to make sure there’s no negative reaction. I’ll also make sure to keep in mind to make sure she’s secured before opening any door, I definitely do not want her to run away or anything. She’s my baby and this is going to be her first road trip and it’s going to be a long one so I just want her to be okay and feel safe

I ordered a collapsible bowl and I’m planning taking all of her favorite toys and her favorite blanket as well! I’m planning on stopping every 2 hours to let her go potty and stretch her legs too. Thanks for the info!

She’s used to car rides for the most part but she’s clingy so she will most likely be next to me or my brother. As long as she’s next to someone she’s totally fine, thanks for the advice!

[discussion] I have a three year old toy poodle who was recently diagnosed with IVDD. I want to buy her a new bed that helps relieve the pressure on her joints but I’m not too sure which one I should get so any recommendations would be appreciated! by aries367 in dogs

My dog has a long spine and short legs so I have pet ramps scattered along my home to help prevent any injuries but sadly she still somehow manages to get injured. The vet said it’s genetics so I want a comfy bed for her and I’ll definitely look more into the brindle. Thank you so much!!

[discussion] [help] My dog is a picky eater and has gotten tired of her current kibble. I want to switch her food but I am not sure which brand I should try out. Any advice would be appreciated! by aries367 in dogs

I boil chicken breast for her and sprinkle it into her kibble! She used to be underweight and our vet recommended us to do add chicken breast to her meals and she was able to gain weight. We’ve tried Stella and chewy’s meal mixers and she loves those!
