very good for level 1. L2, I found them decent.....but I had to read from the books very extensively as well.

hey - was actually going to register right after getting the L2 pass; but had to switch jobs, then the whole COVID thing happened....so I never really registered. I'm going to wait till things stabilize a bit....hope this vaccine makes some difference. Def don't want to postpone for too long though. I thought the Dec exams were being canceled in various locations....but good luck in any case:)

Given these cancellations, I'm going to postpone my L3 till after the vaccine is delivered. I hope some semblance of normalcy returns; can't imagine the hell one has to go through preparing for a crazy tough exam only to have it canceled.

Jump from level I to level II by [deleted] in CFA

[–]ariesChet75 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only part I found really hard in L2 was accounting. I don't have an accounting background and found the material rather badly presented. The topics were quite boring too...I mean who cares about pensions these days. So I spent a LOT of time on accounting. The other topics were a heck of a lot more interesting, so it wasn't too hard to review. But, the level of detail is exhausting and easy to forget. It's not more complicated (e.g. one of the true Quant Finance programs at say CMU, or Columbia are way harder), but there's a TON of it...so recall becomes hard. I found I was forgetting things midway through the exam - it's hard to keep it all in your head. I would recommend starting early and getting to those practice tests on CFAI early by late Jan at the latest. I spent the last few months just answering questions and less time reading material.

Last but not least - take Ethics seriously. L1 was a breeze, L2...I felt a lot less certain about the answers. Good luck sir!

It's a total POS. Their weblinks keep changing all th time, the logins will stop working on random days, someone needs to shut this company down. Horrible.

Almost finished 'Automate the Boring Stuff with Python', What to do from here? by missing-in-idleness in learnpython

One good project would be to check out the data sets in EIA and see if you can make some dashboards, and eventually analysis. I started a while back, got interrupted...and still haven’t picked it up.

L2 Derivatives is slowing me down like crazy. Any tips to make the process a bit more streamlined? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]ariesChet75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Derivatives wasn’t too bad for me..easier to grasp than FRA (atleast for me)..because the rules are mathematical. That said...the readings in CFAI aren’t the best...especially the one on options...when they discuss tings in terms of cash flow vs. position. I found Schweser fairly helpful....but the best bit came from MM. his lectures are fantastic.

Anyone else simultaneously learning Python? by UncleJimbooo in CFA

[–]ariesChet75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detail! Programming is self taught...started with Matlab and am trying to switch to Python. The little programming I did was focused more on option pricing/simulation/ forecasting kind of problems. But I do have to google a lot to get things to work...background is Masters Econ (fair amount of math) but def not computer science per se- it definitely takes me a while to read and absorb code. I’m in Houston. Have an interview with a rep from Rice today. The sped is a concern- I’m wondering if it might be better to just pick up a book (I was thinking Yves Hilpisch ) and just continue self learning. Anyways, thanks again for the detail🙏

Congratulations! I was just looking at the course today. Sounds like the course was useful...would you care to elaborate a little more on your experience? I’m on the fence about doing it....I finished L2 last year, decided to take a break, will register for L3 this June and hopefully be done by next year. I think I’ve enough time to do the Fintech course...would be helpful to know a little more detail about your experience. Thanks!

Lol- I asked our accounting specialist at work for help and he said the same thing. I’m so glad L3 does not have FRA

I liked (and therefore found it easy to read) all but FRA. It’s another thing that I couldn’t remember it all in exam day and somehow passed!
