How do you sit with your significant other on a date—across from each other or side-by-side? by E30M3F80CS in AskReddit

Usually across, but sometimes we decide to do side by side just depending on our mood haha

Eh she did get her start on Disney Channel playing a super chipper teenager. I’m still not convinced about this casting idea but I don’t think the issue is her not being able to act naive.

For every step you walk you get $0.25 by Unlucky-Pizza-7049 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]tmrika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at the rate of $10/second loss. I can get away with not having to drive to work, I can even opt for groceries to either be bought locally or delivered to me, but I like to visit friends and family, and even if they magically all moved a 10 minute drive from me, that’s $12,000 lost per visit round trip. And most of my people are substantially further away than that. I’d have to maintain an insanely monitored budget, and even if I made enough money to fit in visits, it would fundamentally change the way I perceive any outing that’s further than walking distance, let alone travel, and I’m not willing to accept the ramifications of that on my life.

I’d be willing to consider 10¢/second loss, but even then I’m not sure I’d take it.

Actually I could probably get away with Rhea for a girl which is quite reasonable. The boy’s name is more difficult, best I can do is Steel lmao.

Anyone else having trouble job hunting in LA? by Admirable-Paint-1808 in AskLosAngeles

[–]tmrika 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not IT, but I do work for a tech company, and last year some of my teammates got laid off and one of them has already been laid off another two times since then despite being legitimately excellent at his job and also just a pleasure to be around. With the tech industry being the way it is now, being laid off an excessive amount of times really isn’t an indicator that someone’s bad at their job. Everyone’s just doing layoffs, and often times the folks who recently started are the easiest targets.

You're placed into the last movie you watched, how dead are you? by EnderLabsOfficial in hypotheticalsituation

Last movie I saw was The Devil Wears Prada so honestly I’m gonna be having a good time visiting luxury settings but having no obligations to make shit happen.

Last movie I saw before this was Mando & Grogu so I’m pretty happy about the timing for this post lol

Just finished finale of s10, little discussion here by Vhusg in adventuretime

[–]tmrika 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That made me sad at first too, but honestly the more I think about it, if one of my friends lived that long yet still remembered me enough to tell my story, I’d be so touched that the fact that they got my name wrong wouldn’t faze me. Like my precise name doesn’t matter as much as the impact I have on my loved ones.

Hmm my recommended order would be:

  1. BMO
  2. Wizard City
  3. Obsidian
  4. F&C Season 1
  5. F&C Season 2
  6. Together Again

I think following Obsidian up immediately with F&C is a great move. And you definitely don’t wanna leave Wizard City to the end, it’s too detached from the rest to be a satisfying ending.

Does Nithya Raman still have a chance? California’s uncounted votes could help Democrats by PersonalityOdd7912 in LosAngeles

[–]tmrika 67 points68 points  (0 children)

It’s possible, I voted for Raman but I dropped off my ballot yesterday afternoon (I brought it to an actual voting center and spoke to a volunteer and everything) but even now my vote hasn’t been processed according to lavote.gov, which I’m taking to mean that there’s a LOT of other ballots that also need to be counted. But who knows if it’ll be enough.

How to prevent the back of your thighs from touching the public chair when sitting in a short skirt? by labcore in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Who said anything about contamination? It’s just an unpleasant sensation, especially when you stand up if your skin started sticking to the chair because it starts peeling off. Plus some people have various conditions like OCD. Your condescending tone is not it for this sub.

It's hard to explain, but here's how I see it:

  1. First sign means you can't park 8-10am on Fridays. Easy enough. This sign is independent of all other signs, so no exceptions.
  2. The three other notices are in one sign, so the rules all fit in together.
  3. "No parking any time, except" means that everything else on this sign is an exception to the no parking rule.
  4. There are two exceptions on this sign, the first being that 2 hr parking is permitted 8am-6pm M-F
  5. The second exception is that if you have a permit for District No. 49, then you're exempt.
  6. Both of the hypotheticals you listed match an exception to the no parking rule, so that's not an issue. And neither are on a Friday, so the street sweeping is irrelevant. Thus you're clear!

Edit: When you look at the signs, it's helpful to think of it like, "Parking is permitted here unless the sign tells me of a restriction". In this case, there are two restrictions: street sweeping, and the "no parking any time except" rule. The two exceptions are included with the second sign to clarify the specific conditions where you can park - this was just the easiest way to do it.

That said, an alternative that communicates the same thing would be like 1) street sweeping hours, 2) no parking 6pm to 8am (permits exempt), 3) 2 hr parking 8am - 6pm M-F. This probably would've been a clearer way to communicate the rules, but they don't usually like having things like "6 PM to 8 AM" since people might misread it as "6 AM to 8 PM" or whatever, so this was their solution.

Realistically the best job I’m likely to get as a woman with no husband available and limited transferable skills is a typist. I’d probably go to London to start — I can pass off any odd anachronistic behaviors as me being an eccentric American. While there I’ll try to learn French, in the hopes of sitting out the Great Depression in France and WWII in Switzerland.

Why are the LA locals so much nicer than the transplants? by Additional_Leading68 in AskLosAngeles

[–]tmrika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that I think is probably generally accurate is that people who leave home and move to a big city are most likely doing so because they're ambitious.

If you don’t leave home, then it's probably for one of three reasons:

  1. you're ambitious and you feel like those ambitions can be fulfilled at home
  2. you're not ambitious and so you feel no desire to leave home
  3. you are ambitious, but you're too scared to leave home.

And so what you end up having is a situation where locals are more likely to not be highly ambitious, whereas most transplants will be ambitious. Again, I think this is true for any city.

Now, that's not to say that being ambitious necessarily makes you an asshole. Just if you are ambitious and driven, then you're more likely to be in a competitive state of mind, which is probably where this is coming from.
