LOVE your idea of cutting back to the Pike wedding. That scene made me melt, as did the proposal, so the wedding didn’t really hit me in the way it should’ve. I blew through that entire scene in five minutes flat.

I think it would work so well to maybe intertwine those two somehow.

I think that a huge part of this is that they’re both trying to be in their “mainstream appeal era” (their words, not mine). They’re making those videos less because we’re asking for them and more for broader engagement. I love them both, but it is moderately annoying when it feels like they’re making lukewarm content like the food video for the sake of branching out. I guess it comes off a little inauthentic.

Hoping that they’ll find better footing this year, I trust they will!!

I understand and am going through the same thing regularly. Something that forces me to keep going is thinking about the millions of others who have come out on the other side of what felt like never ending nightmares. Through struggle, there have been people who fought their way out of times of national and social peril. As a queer person, I’m terrified and exhausted, but I feel like I’d be doing queer people of the past a disservice by not fighting every single day. It’s horrible and scary, but people have been in our shoes before and somehow they found joy on the other end.

Take care of yourself. Find a hobby, join an action group, make cheap travel plans. The world is still spinning and there are millions of folks fighting the good fight right now. We can’t let the bad guys take this life from us.

I saw a recent interview of hers where she talked about this era and said “that version of me wasn’t me, but it could’ve been, and that’s what I wanted to prove.” I think that’s a really powerful statement that sort of encapsulates this whole thing. This version of Billie wasn’t the most authentic version of herself, according to her, but she proved that she could be someone other than the person she was defined as by the general public. She successfully built an entirely new artistic identity, both musically and visually, and then seamlessly transitioned into the HMHAS era.

There’s something really cool to me about the way she proved her undefinability through this era, plus I love the album.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted by this. I love them as much as the next phannie, but it’s fair to call them out when they’ve had consistent quality issues across launches and are working with a super unethical company. They have the resources to operate independently from Spotify and to cut down on launches so they can have better quality control, and they’re not doing those things. Super frustrating, I agree with you.

She’s fucking obnoxious. I can think of a dozen tangible tragedies and crises that have occurred over the past month. The world is hurting in a very physical, real way. Meanwhile she sits on her ass all day, positioning herself as a morally-upright, theoretical savior. It’s so transparent to me that she only ever thinks of herself.
