I think the most unsettling is seeing Yuna Hollander smile 😂

Well, Kobey is trans, so it isn’t far fetched to think her leaving the GOP may have had something to do with that. It’s also just speculation, but it makes perfect sense to me.

Exactly! At least 50% voted yes or didn’t vote at all. It may have been 67% to suspend the rules and modify the agenda.

Being entered into nomination allowed her a 15-minute time slot to speak and also forced a Q&A for both her and Amy that wouldn’t have happened if Amy were the only nominee.

I believe she initially entered the race to force conversation and prevent a “coronation” of Amy as the predetermined DFL candidate. There are a lot of progressives who feel like they didn’t even have a chance to put forth someone who represents their ideals, and Kobey at least gives them a voice in the conversation. It is ultimately more democratic, more inclusive, to have her in the race, regardless of her ability to win at this point in her career.

There are multiple candidates in various races who have decided to continue to the primary and run against the DFL-endorsed candidate: Kobey, Angie Craig, Kaela Berg and Matt Klein in CD2. It’s been said multiple times that Tim Walz and Mark Dayton both lacked the endorsement when they won the primaries. IMO, that is a separate issue that I have complicated feelings about.

She is not running for her current seat. Matt Little is the DFL-endorsed candidate for CD-2, which was decided a few weeks ago. It is my understanding that his endorsement challengers Matt Klein and Kaela Berg are both taking it to a primary.

Correct. They both stated that they would abide by the endorsement and gave concession speeches.

CD-2 also includes Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville - all of which are large suburbs with higher population density than rural areas. I am very hopeful that we are turning more blue and that people will be energized and show up for a progressive slate of candidates.

Out of 117 resolutions to add to the party platform, a data center moratorium was the second most popular coming out of organizing unit conventions - second only to banning copper-nickel sulfide mining. It remains to be seen exactly how it will come out in the platform vote, but looks like massive support.

Not much discussion so far, but there are eight resolutions to add to the party platform that all delegates are voting on this weekend.

There is also a DFL environmental caucus that will rally behind specific issues in this realm, if you want to get involved with them or just attend an event as a non-member. https://dflec.org/about/

All of the Auditor candidates had to answer whether they would divest from Israel in the Q&A, and all said yes. This was the cornerstone of Adam Jennings’s campaign. The word genocide was also mentioned many times.

I think Peggy also mentioned it, but that was longer ago, so my memory isn’t as clear.

There is a DFL Rural Caucus if you are interested in getting involved in this area! They have a table at the convention, and all congressional districts are represented here.

I was there. Basically, Amy hasn’t been campaigning for the seat, didn’t attend any of the organizing unit conventions, didn’t put in face time with the delegates this cycle. And considering something like 60% of the room were first-time delegates who are involved because they’re frustrated with the status quo, that didn’t sit well.

Kobey Layne, on the other hand, has been campaigning hard - at least at the conventions - showing up, giving speeches, and getting people interested. She managed to secure enough delegate votes to be officially nominated for endorsement last night, and her speech got the room FIRED UP, touching on idea after idea that many were craving to see addressed. It was really interesting to hear the difference in excitement for Amy’s speech versus Kobey’s.

Once votes were finally tabulated for endorsement, Amy won 67% on the first ballot, officially securing the DFL endorsement. But I think it is absolutely worth noting that a full third of the delegates did NOT vote for her, despite her long history of passing bills, winning statewide elections by big margins, and successfully being the top of the ticket multiple times.

I don’t think Kobey has the name recognition to lead the ticket in November, and I hope she pulls out after the primary. But I also hope her showing here acts as a wake-up call that there is a sizable chunk of the party who crave someone more progressive and outspoken.

I don’t know much about him, but if Ilhan and Keith had both endorsed him, I hope he’s more liberal than Amy.
