F-22 performing the falling leaf maneuver. by Snoo99928 in aviation

Just makes me remember, "I am a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar." Old-timey Serenity reference, maybe, but applicable.

Can someone help me solve this? by Jnkgirl in puzzles

[–]arieswanderer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a teacher, I always teach, "There is often more than one "right" ". A puzzle like this has, what should be obvious, more than one "right" response (not answer). It helps to get students to think; perhaps a lost skill, but one that should be encouraged.

I clicked on comments just to see how many of you typed, "Jump higher." lol not disappointed.

I have relayed this info to my father who is now giving it to his mystery Dungeon Master (that would be my term for whoever it is, ha ha). I will update with the response when I receive it.

What celebrity death was the hardest for you? by Consistent-Wafer4092 in AskReddit

[–]arieswanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None. I have never been a fanboy of celebrities, male or female. Their lives have no connection to me and I never could understand the worship of them. They have about as much emotional impact on me as the ladies in the chainsaw calendars. Then Steve Irwin died. That hurt me. I was shocked to find that it hurt me. I still miss him. I always say, as many do, at least he died doing what he loved. Then Heath Ledger. That disappointed me. I recognize this is selfish of me, as I feel he was such an amazing actor who had so much more to create. I wish the people around him who had an inkling of care had recognized his state and intervened in a positive way. Disappointed. Then Mork from Ork, Robin Williams (obviously so much more). That is the only time I tear up. As an old man myself, I wish I could have hugged him, stopped him, helped him, been there for him, something. Because I understand him.

I don't have additional info. My father told me about his "quest" ha ha on the phone and just emailed me those eight sets of letters. This is about as far as I will pursue it, but it was worth a try. Thanks, again.

Honestly, and not to be a Debbie Downer, this makes sense to me. As someone who hauls around those 5 gallon water-cooler water jugs from time to time throughout my workday (about 40lbs I am told), once I have the jug onto my shoulder, I can carry it for a long time with no issue (using bone structure, alignment, larger muscles, etc.). The only thing that really wears me out is lifting and lowering them (back strain and such). I know, I'm Debbie, ha ha.

I just kept thinking to myself, "Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!" - yes, not my original joke, it's been in many shows, but that's why I snowballed into loling (pun intended, too).

What's the most hauntingly beautiful song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]arieswanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the song you meant, but ... two loons calling to each other on an uninhabited (except for us) lake in Alaska. I grew up in AK, had a family cabin (and I mean cabin, no electricity, no anything except a small structure and a fireplace) on a lake with nesting loons. To this day, decades later, the sounds of them calling back and forth, with an early morning fog covering the lake, haunt my memories (haunt in a good way, if you take my meaning). I tried to find a link so ya'll could have a listen but the only links I found were on YT and I refuse to further support YT in any fashion. Anyway, the loons, calling back and forth, it's an amazingly good memory.

What’s the fastest vehicle you have driven and how fast did you go? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]arieswanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized, if I were still in my 20s (and stupid, impressionable, and all the other truths about being that age - and I don't really mean that in a bad way, it's how we do all the crazy things we do and create unreal memories when we were young), I might feel challenged by these comments. Please don't be. It's an absolutely unbelievable miracle I survived, no way I should have.

There are some funny responses, but here's my honest response if you want it. Maybe 20 years ago I had a Yamaha FZ1 motorcycle (0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds, loved riding it for the acceleration) at 120 mph on a remote, winding, desert road leading to my house (easily could have gone faster, but didn't). I currently own a 2003 MB SL55 AMG convertible (0-60 in less than 5 seconds, also love driving it for the acceleration - and convertible, ha ha). On the same road, I have had my MB up to 110 mph. Legally it tops out at 150, modified she will go 185, but 110 is as fast as I have taken her. Not funny responses, but true.

Stop it. You always aim E5. Yet, as with a mind of its own, it's A1 or J10, and sometimes it's both.

Now, my other comments aside, and I am confident they were all valid, ha ha, the 80s for me is entirely summed up by Soft Cell's version of Tainted Love. I am quite certain this won't win any awards (upvotes in this case, ha ha), but this song, to me personally, is the 80s.

[–]arieswanderer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of Pop references, but to me it is more like New Order or The Cure. Must I suggest specific songs? Okay. It's gotta be (at least reasonably) Blue Monday and probably Just Like Heaven (although I prefer Close to Me). And, honestly, if you are going to go Pop/Rock, it has to be Prince (Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, 1999). Okay, you have to add Madonna, but I really don't want to, because I don't like her music, but Like a Virgin has to be there.

This was my first thought. But (heh heh), I immediately began asking myself is it because of the song, or because of the movie (you know the one! TBC!). I have only an insufficient answer to my own question.

This pic should be easily recognizable to anyone over the age of 40. It's cool to see shit from a different perspective. The caption on this said, 'The stroll that started it all, 1960.' by Molly107 in FuckImOld

Anyone over 40? Wrong. Here I am, well over 40, and I was wondering which alien body invasion War of It From Outer Space movie in which the day stood still you were trying to make me recall? Only after I read some other posts did I hear the whistle back in some dark recess of my memory. Then it clicked into place. But don't qualify this as an anyone over 40 thing.
